The open highway was empty and rather peaceful for the two as they cruised along. Levi and Vesper stopped in a diner only once to eat before finishing there trip its was quiet between the two mostly.
"Hate to break the peace but I have to piss do you need anything specific so I know where to stop?"
Levi interjected as he stole a glance at Vesper who was lightly humming with her eyes closed face to the sun she looked vibrant and full of life.
"I'm not sure. Maybe somewhere I can grab a snack if that's okay?"
"Yeah of course ves."
Levi stopped at a small market with a gas pump nine miles from Wyoming state line. He hopped out and then let Vesper out before booking it inside to pee. Vesper giggled at his antics and followed him inside.
Inside she began to look around collecting them both a drink and a big bag of chips as she grabbed some gummy bears she looked at the subway sign and decided she would like a sandwich so she started placing her order she loved there chicken bacon ranch. Levi had came over sighing relived and placing a casual arm over her making her feel awkward as he started to order a spicy Italian.
The doors chimed as they ordered and before they knew it Vesper was pressed against the floor under Levi as gunshots fired around the building a masked man holding a shotgun and had the cashier at gunpoint robbing the place.
"Vesper get to the bathroom and lock the door I will come for you." Levi whispered in her ear as he shoved her into an isle attracting the man's attention as Vesper watched the gun held to Levi's head she covered her mouth to prevent a sob she was terrified as she crawled towered the restrooms.
Levi watched her go from the corner of his eye before he grabbed the gun barrel shoving it to the side as it fired grazing his side in multiple places he yanked the gun forward from the man.
Vesper closed the door locking it when she heard the shot she began to cry more.
"Please don't die." She cried as the lights flickered in the bathroom.
Levi shoved the man back against an isle it had medicine on it and a box of condoms went flying somewhere. Subconsciously he reached for his cuffs that weren't there so he improvised and slid his leather belt off he was tired of this man shoving him so he tossed the gun aside and drew back socking him in the cheek the man stopped moving so Levi rolled him over and tied him up. Levi's hand was bleeding at the knuckles from the hit and he had bruises on his chest now from the assault as well as blood on his shirt from the shot. He stood lifting the man up and setting him by the door he set his badge on the counter and said "Call 911 dispatch. "
He waited as they did so he gathered there dropped things placing them on the counter and walked to the back of the store clenching his side.
He shoved the women's restroom door open and said softly "Vesper?"
the lights flickered and he heard the door click in the stall as Vesper stepped out her beautiful dress swaying with her movements but as he looked to her eyes he froze seeing black tears and purple eyes she looked like a doll. The lights flickered once again as she walked closer her eyes norm once again full of tears as she rushed to hug him. "Whoa easy Vesper im...I'm.... ow ow ow.. " He said as she squeezed him.
"I'm so happy your alive ."
"It's my job to be. " He chuckled she was never Like this at home when he was working. He kinda liked it.
"Come on I wanna get our food and go. " he said as she finally noticed he was bleeding.
"You need a hospital!." She freaked.
"It's just a graze I doubt I even need stitches they have some medical wrap and antibiotics here we can get with our stuff you can patch me up outside. " He said as He led her out of the bathroom.
"Okay.. " She went quiet as she gathered up what she might need and headed to the counter to pay as Levi got there food finished by a grateful cashier who took half off of everything for damages.
The county police arrived once they got there stuff in the car and Levi approached them holding his bleeding side he showed his badge took them to the criminal got his belt back and waved good bye. as soon as they left Vesper jumped out of the car medical supplies in hand.
"Get that shirt off so I can get antibiotics and bandages on you." She demanded
Levi was caught off guard by this bur he stripped his upper half and tossed his shirt in the backseat as Vesper coated on ointment and cotton with care he hissed as it stung. She wrapped his torso and finished with cold hands.
"Your awfully bold lately Vesper. for someone who would normally shy away from me." He said looking down softly as he handed her the car keys.
"I best not drive for a bit and I suppose I should thank you for patching me up." He leaned down giving her a small kiss on the cheek something he had never done to anyone but his own mother but he didn't know how else to thank her at the time.
"Well I'm hungry so I'm gonna eat while you drive." He stepped around getting in grabbing his food. Did I break her? He thought as he looked to see her standing outside the car still.
"He kissed me...." She whispered before shaking her head vigorously and getting into the car starting ot up and pulling out onto the highway. she was silently listening to him crumble the paper wrapper as he quietly ate.
"Levi you could have just said thank you next time that is enough." She spoke softly waiting for a reply.
"I felt like you needed a more proper thank you besides I've gotta pretend to be your boyfriend shortly so relax I'm sure your parents would want me to show some kind of affection."
He sighed if this was how she would react each time then it was pointless to pretend. Levi leaned against the window feeling drowsy.
"You okay Levi?"
"Yeah just tired. " He looked at the scenery going by his vision blurring as he began to dose off.
Vesper watched the road listening to Levi's soft breathing. She sighed as she rolled into town now only a few minutes away from her parents cabin home.
"Next time I'm gonna just make him pee in the woods." She sighed as she drove up the long winding wooded road.
