Chereads / Master of Deception / Chapter 24 - Struggling inside

Chapter 24 - Struggling inside

"Scary old man," Xan muttered.

Who will even want to be a disciple of someone like him?

Xan looked at the screen and asked: "What do I need to do with the scroll?"

[Did you see any instructions after the diary-like descriptions?]

"...yes?"

[What did you see?]

A bit hesitant, he said anyways, "To kill one billion people?"

The white screen was silent for a moment before a sound rang, in a recorded voice of his dad, "Son, sorry for the stupid Idea of showing you that scroll, It is in the end something ominous, huh? Guess your mother was right in not showing it to you."

"...Dad," so he recorded this before his death, dad knew he will die soon...

The blank screen returned and Xan looked at it silently, putting the scroll aside, he asked: "So why are the things in the room floating?"

[That information is unknown, all we know is that whenever your computer turns on, everything will start to float.]

"My computer?!"

[Yes. Your computer, the scroll, and a box of old popcorn were all the things your parents found inside a cave, believed to be where "Savage madman little wuma" lived.]

Oh!

"But he seemed to hate smartphones and stuff? Why an advanced Computer setup?" Alexander asked, finding it a bit fishy.

[We don't know that as of yet, but the theories are that it is just a fun attempt on his part. But your mother firmly believed that in it lied some deep secret.]

'Mom has always been more astute than dad, so...' Xan pondered for a second and then questioned, "So where did the earlier story of someone killing Mom and dad and then me come from? It was on the screen before you showed up."

The screen stayed white for a second and then it asked, [What story?]

Xan frowned, his eyebrows crunching up as he thought of it. He then asked, "Do you have control over my computer?"

[No, I can only use your monitor to speak with you. I was set up by your Dad to activate in case the plans to hide and protect you failed. I have no knowledge of the story you mentioned.]

"Not even the note detailing me and the details about acquiring me before April 7?"

[No, sir, I don't know about that.] the Ai replied emotionlessly.

Alexander asked with irritation, "Then what are you supposed to guide me in?"

[In your escape from the mansion and the prying gazes.]

"...You can do that?"

[Surely.]

Xan shook his head and then walked back into the elevator, his mind once again tired and unwilling of all these hard work.

'I might as well check out the computer...'

There was still a day left for April 7 after all.

The elevator lifted and soon, he walked back into his room, and sat on his gaming chair as he looked at the screen, "Are you active, Ai?"

[Yes.]

"So you are now running on my computer? So it's like I am turnibg it on, making the resonance down there work?"

[Yes.]

"Turn on the true computer."

[I will be turned off then.]

"Can you turn on after?"

[No, I am designed to guide you once and then self destruct myself and the computer. I have no turn on and off feature.]

Alexander's eyes shined a deep black and he said, "Turn on the computer then."

[Then I can't guide you to safety.]

"I don't want to be safe."

He was afraid of death sure, but he wasn't fond of life either.

[System protocoals, no actions given by the developer for a situation like this. System turning off...Self destruction successful, all data erased.]

The white screen blinked and vanished.

His normal desktop turned on.

He didn't waste time and did some searching before he found the earlier text: "Alene Winslow, Roben Winslow, and the millionaire couple's secret child, Named: Alexander Winslow.

Target number: 578, Shall be acquired within April 7, 2018...."

He then used some time to find its tracks... Where the hell did it come from?

He hadn't ever really dug deep into his on computer, he had ever only played around.

But the thing he had been doing the most in the whole year cooped up here was finding fun in simple things.

He was really good with a computer due to that.

He soon figured out the source of the text, it cane from an inconspicuos software, his eyes turned and he read: Blue system.

Click.

The thing opened up, and he read with intrigue.

He was seeing this app for the first time!

"Hello new visitor, welcome to the Blue System," A text written in bold blue words atop a hologram like background said. It looked disgusting design-wise.

Xan licked his lips and went downwards.

"The fact that you have acquired this software and reached here means you are chosen."

'So cryptic,' Xan moaned inside and went down.

"Candidate, do you wish to have riches?"

'No?'

"Candidate, do you wish to have beautiful woman?"

'No?'

"Candidate, do you want to have oower that can destroy a boulder with a punch?"

'...No?'

He read on and keot repeating No in his head, bored.

It then asked, 'Candidate, do you want to revive the dead?'

Xan's heart skipped a beat and he scrolled down faster, skipping all the bullshit as he reached a new line.

"I an the Blue System, I can allow a chosen person's soul travel from this world to another Magical world, where fantasies can thrn real, do you want to go there for free and achieve your dreams? It is simple! Just put a drop of blood on the screen and say I accept."

'Isn't that the same as what that old man wanted in the end, to bring me into that Wuma place? I can get that for free?'

He hesitated for a second and cut a small wound on his fonger with his teeth, and brought it towards the screen.

But stopped halfway.

No.

Something seems amiss, I don't feel my heart drum like when I read the old man's simple words.

And a sentence from his father flashed past his mind: "Never accept something for free, tch, they always end up the most expensive."

His mind brightened and he brought his hands back.

Scrolling up again, he looked at the words...

Do you want to revive your loved ones.

And paused on it for a long time.

'I am not a demon, and I am not so capable as to kill one billion people either... The only way is this, I have to try it.'

'But what if that only ended up being fake and a magical trap or something? The magic can lift a piano like a toothpick downstairs...so it is too strong.'

'Maybe even that old man's one is a prank...'

He closed the tabs and fell back on his chair, he could feel the depression coming back again.

'Maybe I should just try jumping down from the stairs, or what if I let a truck hit me?'

His emotions were a chaotic wave these days, he couldn't expect where it will raise and fall.

Mm... The scroll only told me to bathe it in a billion people's blood, do I not have to kill but just do that?

That would be more easier.

He jumped out of the chair and decided to give it a simple try, he had nothing fun to do anyway.
