Chapter 46 - Eyes

-1st person-

I slowly let go of Lilith at the promise to never run away again, but gave her a glare as I did.

"Just know that you'll have to re-earn my trust cause of your couple stunts." I said, "The world isn't just fun and rainbows and I'm sure Devron knows that." I looked at Devron, staring into his eyes and noticing the indecipherable thoughts.

Despite how similar we were, we were so so different.

I shook my head, bringing myself from my own thoughts with a sigh as I turned around and ignored the twink whispering in my ear.

[So I'm a twink now?]

You always were. Like, bubblegum pink vest? Sky blue hakama? Atrocious style, if anything.

And I noticed that, looking closer, He had heterochromia. A weird kind, too. One of His eyes were green with a little bit of purple and the other was purple with a little bit of green. And it was funny cause I could swear both His eyes were fully green before.

[I'm not the one who chose this, okay?! The clothes come with the job!]

Still atrocious. If I had to wear that then I would just walk out on the job, no matter how much power came with it.

The clown rolled his eyes-

[I'm not a clown, you bastard!]

Chill there, I was born after my parents married.

I began to walk to the direction of outside the ruins before my standing still became weird. I also ignored the quiet conversation between Lilith and Devron, yet I couldn't help but notice changes in Devron's demeanour. He was slightly more controlling, more protective. It was hard to explain, but it definitely leaned in the redder direction.

[Yeah, the robot is kind of weird.]

I don't need your input, twink.

I smirked, quickening my pace slightly as I listened to The Overseer rage in the background. It was funny that someone so powerful could get riled up so easily, especially so since you would expect someone who knows the future to be calm in all situations.

You know, maybe all His behaviour was an act to fit into the mold of acting like a clown. The clothes also explained it since it came with the job and all...

[Ha ha ha. I would have you know that I quite like being funny!]

You aren't funny. You're a miserable excuse of a joker and I'm sure no one laughs at your jokes.

[...]

[Could've atleast been kinder...]

Fine, then. I'm sorry.

He seemed a bit happier at that, and I looked away, instead focusing on walking and listening to the hushed conversation of the two behind us. Which was ironic, cause I hadn't been focusing on them earlier.

"I'm gonna get you a gift when we get back to Earth." Devron said firmly, it was strange. He was never so assertive.

"Hm? What kind?" She asked, intruiged as her voice was slightly louder to the point I needn't strain my ears to listen.

"You'll see." It was an ominous tone, and I almost chuckled at it had it not been for the creeping suspicions veiled behind my smiling expression.

Yet of course, like any other person, I would not confront him about it until it became problematic. Plus, I could trust Devron with his own affairs. I shouldn't interfere with him and coddle him to the point he is dependant on me.

[Oh wow, being smart for once I see?]

I thought we were over the fighting and banter?

[... Let me have the win just this once...]

...

Fine.

I let out a sigh, and kept on walking unbotheredly. Wait, no, botheredly. I was walking botheredly because The Overseer's insult hurt me and I couldn't help but mull over it and feel the urge to cry at its brutality and viciousness. It was so bad-

[O- Okay, that's enough.]

Okay then, if that's what you want.

I shrugged my shoulders and my gaze was drawn back to his eyes. Deciding that they were the best and most interesting thing over so here I settled for studying them while walking (the ruins were hellishly large).

Alongside the eye colours, there were also stray dots of random colours scattered around them. Grey, gold, pink, blue, yellow, you name it. It would be hard to see, but if you payed attention then it became clear as if looking at them with a microscope. Each speck of colour brought more life to the already lively eyes. Expressive enough to make up for the mask which covered His general face, they revealed each and every emotion of his like reading from a book. I didn't hate the fact that they were so colourful though, I quite liked it, in fact. They drew me in enough to drown out every surroundings as if being hypnotised and they made it easy for my attention to stay on them, like I could spend millennia just studying them. How they shined in the light was unique, rather than absorbing light they rather reflected it and gleamed with a certain... Happiness, to it.

No, scrap millennia. I could spend aeons just staring into those colours, engraving each and every detail into my brain as they overloaded each of my senses and inevitably drew my attention onto them. They were the type of unique I wouldn't mind gouging my own eyes out to have, or to own. The type of eyes that never demanded attention, because they would get it anyways. The eyelashes a mismatch of white and black yet so dense it never looked out of place yet they somehow made the eyes shine brighter with more colour than before. It was the kind of light I wouldn't mind being blinded from.

And soon He looked away, I felt the urge to pull his face to mine so I could continue staring into those gemstones but I ultimately resisted the urge. Luckily so.

Anyways, it seemed that the time I spent staring into His eyes had indeed been long since we made our way out of the ruins and I looked at the lush blue forests of Daltain.

I then called Crystal.

[Ray? Didya get them?] She asked, getting to the point (thankfully).

"Yeah, are you still at the triolles habitat?" I asked, already making my way over there.

[Big scary crocodiles? Yep. Should we move?]

"No need, already on our way there so don't you dare ruin anything." I say sternly, quickening my pace at the impatience I heard in her tone.

It was all so tiring.

Why couldn't I be the mindless one who didn't put in any effort?

[Yes, Sir. We're waiting here for you. Are we going to kill the triolles for the mission anyways?]

"It was obvious, no? Triolles are relatively powerful but are quite weak compared to those in our team. So we can technically best them with little to no effort if things go to plan. Which they never do, but we should be optimistic." I explained, "So we'll hope that things go to plan and if they don't then we have to put in effort."

[Neither of the options seem that bad though.]

"I don't want to put in effort, Crystal. And if we do have to put im effort then it means our luck is, quite frankly, terrible." I added.
