Chereads / Child Of The Void / Chapter 40 - The Overseer

Chapter 40 - The Overseer

-1st person-

[So now you're being secretive around trusted friends? How smart.]

The voice appeared again, speaking sarcastically like it could read my thoughts.

[Yeah, I can read your thoughts. You're like an open book to me.]

It mocked me, and I was forced to look around and try to find the thing that was speaking.

[Wrong area! Look somewhere else!]

The voice kept mocking me as I looked around, giving hints occasionally on where to look. It was like playing some sort of game, only this was real life.

I grit my teeth and kept looking around.

I was 'alone' in the room, so the voice was either lying to me or hidden from my complete view.

[Or you're just not looking properly!]

I rolled my eyes and kept looking around, my eyes grazing over everything in the room yet there was no hint of the voice even being there.

[Do I really need to feed it to you?]

I took a deep breath, and nodded my head.

[Look up, dummy.]

I furrowed my brows slightly, but still looked up.

A clown floated above me, and he was watching me through that clown mask of his.

His whole appearance was bizarre, a mismatch of colours and mismatched proportions along with his black hair (or white — there were multiple white streaks in the hair that reminded me of a zebra) and the vaguely visible green light from the small slits for his eyes.

Overall, he looked like a maniac.

[Not very nice now, are ya?]

I sighed and stepped back, wanting to not hurt my neck to look up at him.

He floated lower, but never touched the ground as he seemed to love floating quite a bit.

[It's better than talking to someone like you who needs to be spoon fed.]

I stared at him.

"And who are you, exactly?" I asked, changing the subject.

[I'd love to give a riddle, but I fear you may not understand]

He mocked me, pointing as I could almost imagine his tongue sticking out at me.

"Are you going to tell me or...?"

[Hm, I'm The Overseer. You wouldn't know.]

It was a somewhat condescending tone he spoke in as he looked down at me.

"Yeah, I don't. Care to explain?" I tilted my head, speaking in a deadpan tone.

[Hm, fine, then. I am the one who oversees Fate and all that.]

"Not a very... Formal tone." I mumbled matter-of-factly.

[I'm not flaunting it, am I?]

"Well..." I trailed my voice off and shook my head.

[I'm really considering just leaving you in your confusion.]

"Fine, fine. You aren't flaunting your status as The Overseer of Fate." I gave in easily, still needing the explanations as I held my hands up in surrender.

I rolled my eyes inwardly.

Like a child.

[Seriously?]

"Hm? I don't know what you're talking about." I said, feeling the urge to roll my eyes again despite how many times I'd already done that by now.

[You do know I'm stronger than you, right?]

I nodded my head.

"Obviously." I remarked.

[So that means I can also kill you without trying.]

He added, and I nodded my head.

"So do it." I say.

[This bastard-]

"Coward." I muttered under my breath and I could hear the clown taking a deep breath.

[Respect me. I know your future, and past.]

"I also know my past." I replied.

[Do you, though?]

Asked The Overseer.

"Then, pray tell, what is my past?" I replied, humouring his idea for a moment.

[∫Ø∇çŸγΘÚ⌈øΔ. His daughter.]

"What...?" I mumbled, my eyes widening as I stared at Him.

[The daughter of ∫Ø∇çŸγΘÚ⌈øΔ is your past.]

I held my forehead gently, massaging my temples from the irritation I felt.

"I know that, but care to explain?" I asked.

[Ehh...]

I almost deadpanned.

"What is it...?" I asked apprehensively.

[Not that I won't explain. I just can't.]

And before I can ask for further clarification, He speaks again.

[She doesn't exist, nor should he. Yet somehow, you instinctively know of her.]

I tilted my head.

"So I shouldn't know either him nor his daughter?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

[Think of it like this, someone is erased from existence. And this would also include their family, and every relative. Then, everyone who knew this person would completely forget their existence.]

He said, explaining lengthily.

[Yet you somehow know of her, despite her 'erasion'. Hell, that man shouldn't even exist yet here we are defying every heaven built rule.]

It's surprising how He switches from joking to serious...

[Now's not the time for jokes, kid.]

"You do know I'm atleast a few million years old or something." I said indignantly.

[And? I'm at least a trillion.]

He rolled His eyes, or that was what I could see through the mask which didn't show much anyways.

"Carry on." I hold my forehead, indicating to continue with the conversation.

[She was erased so heavily, that it was completely impossible for me to see her whole existence. I could only find a few tidbits, and almost all of them relate to you.]

"So you're going to show them to me?" I asked, furrowing my brows slightly.

[Yep, since this relates to your Fate, I have to show this to you even if I don't want to.]

He answered.

"So, when will you show them?" I asked, before everything turned black.

I could feel emotions swirling within me. Pink, red, blue, yellow and so on.

Like spilling paint onto a blank canvas.

And my head turned to her.

I smiled. Truly, smiled.

"What was it that you wanted to tell me, Love?" I asked, in my unfamiliar voice.

It was a voice that genuinely disgusted me. Dripping with honey, so much so that I felt the urge to give a long sigh.

It was like a dual personality at this point.

My disgust versus my love.

Disgust was winning, by the way.

She grinned, and I could feel the love swelling through that simple action.

Ugh. Is it too late to go back to reality?

I didnt like the feeling of Love. I craved it, yes. But it weakened me. I hated it.

I could feel all my desire for her, all my love, all my lust and every other kind of 'positive' emotion I hadn't even known existed.

Is her existence what gives me emotions...?

No... Absurd.

"I wanted to tell you something. This was something I've never told anyone else, by the way." She replied, trust in her eyes as I felt the urge to vomit alongside the pride.

She told me first...

Was what my other self was thinking.

Ugh, it's like I'm a puppet on strings.

Her every action, her every movement, every gesture, it all controlled me.

I shook my head inwardly, watching the two of them interact.

Whoever he was, that man was not me. Whatsoever. His love disgusted me to the very core.

And he nodded his head.

"What is it, My Love?" He asked in that cringeworthy tone of his.

"I..." She started speaking, and for the first time I put my disgust aside to listen to her. What she was going to say would be important, so I should stop hating her for now. "I am a reincarnator."

Both his and my eyes widened slightly.

A reincarnator... This means she's lived through multiple lives...

"Perfect for me..." He mumbled absentmindedly, I could see the love growing in him and I just held back my nausea.

I knew what he meant.

I understood, even.

With my mental age, it was something of a challenge for me to try 'find someone'. Lorence was an exception, I could see that he was meant for greatness and his emotions were a great way for me to control him.

However, her reincarnation would mean that her mental age was something on a similar level to mine. This meant something along the lines of us being able to date without me being a fucking pedophile.

My eyes twitched, of course, mine only. He was too busy imagining a disgusting future with her.

It was like she was created for me. Made for me. Tailored to my needs yet I became her slave.

Both my hate and love kept growing to unbearable amounts to the point I wanted to scream out.

Let me out of here.

I don't want to see anymore, please.

He disgusted me, her also.

I hated this.
