Chapter 7 - Advent of Slaughter

We had just gone over the hill and had entered the jungle when we heard screams ahead of us. They were screams of fellow survivors. I told Isot to follow me as I carefully approached the sounds.

When I saw what was happening, I frowned. There was a group of people fighting another group. There were eight on one side completely naked with only spears to defend themselves.

The other group contained four individuals. They had full cloth armor. Two in the front had spears just like their opponents. One in the back had a crossbow while the last, also in the back, had a compound bow.

The screams had come from the eight who had been ten. There were two naked corpses on the ground. I was sure more corpses would soon join those as well.

I turned around to Isot. "We are going to kill the four with cloth armor after they whittle down the opposing group a little more."

He sighed and then nodded. "OK."

It took only a minute for five of the eight naked subjects to die. In that time, only one of the cloth armored individuals had died. My only thought was that they must be high leveled.

I nodded to Isot as I loaded an arrow into my crossbow. I breathed out, accounted for a slight breeze, and aimed at the woman holding a compound bow. With a "TWANG," my arrow flew true. The back of her head spouted blood as she fell forward limply. She was dead.

I brushed the notice aside as I loaded a second arrow into my crossbow. Isot fired his bow, but he missed by about a foot. They had not known where we were until Isot had shot his bow.

The male subject with the crossbow began to load his crossbow, but I was faster. I raised my crossbow and brought my aim towards his heart. I breathed out slowly and squeezed the trigger. The arrow was a blur as it sped towards the man. It hit him in the chest and he fell over on the ground, dead.

Again, I ignored the glowing blue window as I quickly reloaded my crossbow. There was still one more hostile person who was running towards us. I glanced at the naked group of three, but they were not running or helping, but merely tending to their own wounds.

Isot drew back the string of his bow and he let the arrow loose. The arrow flew true, for the last of them was far closer and so it was an easier shot. The man with a spear fell onto his back with an arrow sunk deep through his eye socket and to his brain.

I glanced at the message and skimmed over it quickly. As I did, my head began to ache and so I closed them for a moment. When I opened my eyes, there was a red dot on my field of vision. When I turned my head, it disappeared.

I ignored the distraction, and I bade Isot to follow me as I strode towards the first corpse. When I had gotten close enough, a blue window appeared on his corpse.

Isot walked towards the other three corpses to pick things up while I brought my crossbow back into my hands and leveled it towards the distant three naked survivors. I slowly walked towards them. None of them had their weapons drawn, but I knew they could take them out fast.

As I neared the three, I called out to them. "Hey, we saved your asses. You guys are in a tribe, right?"

A broad-shouldered man with bloody wounds all over him and an arrow in his shoulder grunted and then spoke. "I am their leader. Without the two of you we surely would all be dead now. What do you want from us now?"

As he talked, I glanced at the other two naked survivors. One was a woman with a similarly large build who looked young and really hot. She had blonde hair, fair skin, and blue eyes. The third was a shorter man with black hair, brown eyes, and he looked Mexican. He also had impressive muscles.

I turned my eyes back to meet the first man's own and I answered his question. "Can you delete your tribe or destroy it? You will join us, or we can finish what those other guys started. You all are clearly not ready for another fight, but we are."

He blinked and then nodded. "We will join."

He tapped the air for a bit and then looked back up at me. "It's done, our tribe is gone."

I tapped "YES" and all three of them looked down to what I knew were their own system windows. As they all joined, green icons with four numbers each appeared over their heads. The woman's designation was 0992, the former tribe leaders was 4278, and the Mexican's was 2209.

I smiled. "Welcome to my tribe. Why don't we all put some clothes on and then I have somewhere for us to go. We need to carry all of the items that the fallen have dropped.

Isot, and the others put clothes on, and I gave the naked woman the set I had taken from the corpse.

I also decided to fix the outrageous experience split of 1/5 in my tribe settings.

I smiled as the others frowned. "You guys don't have a problem with that right? This will help because I will still be able to make higher level items for the team."

Everyone generally agreed because they could not disagree.

Before telling everyone my next plan, I quickly put a point in mana sense. On my status screen it showed that I had "1" mana sense. It seemed like a small number, but I would make it bigger. I would have to ask the system later what it meant about training or supplementing the mana capacity and sense.

I turned to Isot and the others. "Follow me. I am going to head to where the tribe that we eliminated had a base."

The previous leader of the old tribe, subject 4278, nodded. "We actually ran across their base. It was a twig 2x2 in front of a cave. There seemed to be some sort of monster inside that they were gearing up to kill. I do think that would be a good place to build a base after we kill the monster.\

Isot grinned. "It's probably the cave I found earlier in the day."

I nodded. "It's decided then, let's head out."
