New York City Police Department.
A policeman ran into George's office in a rage with a folder in his hands.
"Chief, something has happened!"
"The people we were spying on, the ones Kingpin had, are all dead."
"What?"
George, with some disbelief, picked up the information, which clearly recorded the time and place of death of those several people.
They all died at home.
Some are from heart attacks, some are from accidents.
In a city the size of New York, there was nothing strange about dozens or hundreds of accidental deaths a day.
But they were all Kingpin's men, and they were all under police surveillance.
It was getting weird.
"Are there any records of their last journeys and movements before they died?"
The officer nodded: "Yes, everything is fine."
"Nothing is broken."
George knew that the deaths of people were not so simple, and immediately suspected Kingpin.
"Did you go to Kingpin?"
"Some of the brothers have already left, but Kingpin justified himself for various reasons and only allowed his lawyer to receive us."
George frowned.
That was the most disturbing thing about this group of rich people: things like the law were not binding on them at all.
Rather, it was a weapon that allowed them to exploit loopholes.
It was almost impossible to detain a rich, wealthy man in the United States without sufficient evidence for charges.
George looked at the list of deaths and realized that it was pointless to investigate.
He had been dealing with Kingpin for many years already.
The other side was too pure.
"Report immediately if there are any problems."
"Other than that, there's one more thing I think it's worth paying attention to."
George gave a puzzled gasp.
"Chief, you know a writer named Alex Rain."
George nodded, "Very famous these days, even Gwen is a fan of his."
"What is this sudden mention of this person?"
"You'll understand when you read it."
George looked puzzled as he scrolled through the information: "Why would Kingpin defend Alex in such a high-profile case?"
"It took us a while to study it when we found it."
"We also searched for some information about Mr. Alex and found that he has a very clean track record."
"There was no contact with Kingpin, and we don't even think these two people knew each other."
The analysis made George even more confused.
A man like Kingpin would go to the defense of a stranger to him?
"So we came to a very reasonable suspicion."
"Tell me about it."
"Kingpin is a fan of Mr. Alex and probably follows Mr. Alex's novels."
George immediately looked at the officer.
The look seemed to say: "Are you kidding?".
In response, he received an unmistakable nod from the officer.
"Because Mr. Alex's novels are really good, and quite a few people in our department are fans of Mr. Alex's books."
"Get out and keep investigating this case!"
George didn't want to continue talking to him.
Kingpin is a gang leader who killed people all day and knew how to do bad things.
Would you go to the feat to protect a writer for the sake of several novels?
Suddenly, the officer looked at George with a very surprised expression on his face: "Chief, you haven't read Mr. Alex's novels, have you?".
George was taken aback.
Indeed, he did not read them, firstly, because he was busy with work.
Secondly, he really wasn't a big fan of fiction, even such phenomenal works.
But George had his own pride, and if he said he hadn't read them.
Wouldn't the rest of the bureau tell him that he wasn't in a position to follow trends?
"I am... Of course I've seen them."
"What are you still doing here, don't you have to work? Go and investigate now...".
"YES!"
Anyone could see that George was talking tough.
Only when the officer left did George continue to study the information in his hands.
After half an hour of analysis , George was also quite skeptical .: "Can Alex's novel ...".
"Is he really that good?"
Inside the X Academy.
After many attempts, and having failed to contact Jean, Professor X finally stopped useless work.
"I wonder if Logan has found Jean yet?"
"Don't make mistakes."
Professor X, unsure of himself, continued to activate his psychic abilities and prepared to contact Logan.
But the next moment, Professor X was dumbfounded.
Logan hasn't been in touch either...
"What the hell is going on here?"
Professor X was alarmed, both of these people were his most powerful fighters.
Both of them were now missing.
It's not easy to explain to the top management when you've lost so much.
Two powerful mutants disappeared under his nose.
The trust that was easily won disappeared in an instant.
"No, these two must be found immediately!"
"All X-Men report to my office."
Professor X unleashed his psychic abilities and summoned all the X-Men who were in the X Academy.
Ten minutes later, the members of the X-Men gathered in the professor's office.
There were Cyclops, Storm, Rogue and Iceman.
"Professor, what did you want us to come here for?"
Everyone at the X Academy treated Professor X with great respect.
"This is an emergency, and Gene and Logan, whom I sent on a mission, are missing."
What?
All the X-Men looked at each other in disbelief, unable to believe what Professor X had said.
Both of them didn't have ordinary strength, so how could they have gone missing?
"I'm not sure right now, my psychic abilities don't allow me to contact them right now."
"So I'm going to have to ask you guys to go and look for them."
"What is certain is that none of them should have left New York yet."
Upon the mobilization of Professor X, the X-Men left the X Academy in several directions and entered New York to begin searching for Logan and Jean.
The exit of the X-Men, of course, attracted the attention of S.H.I.E.L.D..
This was reported to Nick Fury almost immediately.
Several of the largest monitor screens in front of him turned into a personal show of several X-Men.
"Do you want to contact Charles?"
Hill approached Nick Fury.
"No, let's see what they're up to first...".
