Chereads / The Dark Magus / Chapter 12 - E Rank

Chapter 12 - E Rank

The [Night Fang] attacked me first as it sent a jet of spider web at me. I dodged to one side and sent magic to my legs as I jumped off the ground and started scaling one of its legs. It screeched and swung its leg to the side to try and throw me off, but I held on with my hand and used the momentum to swing myself to its head. I rose my sword in the air and immediately stabbed one of the spider's six eyes. The spider screeched in pain as it stumbled, and at the next moment, I felt the air leave my lungs as it slammed me into a wall!

Boom!

It reared back and I immediately tried to get loose from the wall, but the webs on the wall were holding me tightly. The spider tried to hit me again, and I quickly activated [Pyroclasm] to hit the wall beside me, and the web holding me back burnt and I dropped to the ground to avoid the hit.

I activated [Pyroclasm] again and sent a ball of black fire straight at the spider's injured eye.

Boom!

A small explosion echoed through the room and the spider screeched as it was pushed back. I ran straight for it again but the spider started to climb up the wall to avoid me. It screeched and shot another web at me, I didn't doge it this time, instead, I caught the web in my left arm just before it hit me and activated [Pyroclasm]. The black fire traveled up the web and swarmed the spider!

Screech!!!

Thud!

The spider fell to the ground with a screech and began attacking wildly to try and skewer me with its legs. I quickly ran for cover and I hid to avoid getting hit by its legs. I touched my ribs and winced as I felt a wound there. That would take some time to heal. I was lucky that this was only an E rank beast. If it was any higher, then my F ranked skill wouldn't even be effective against it.

Once the spider stopped attacking wildly, I ran out from under the cover and ran toward the spider's blind spot. The spider was looking around for me and so it was caught unaware as I activated [Pyroclasm] again and sent a ball of fire towards its eyes again!

Boom!

Screech!

The spider screeched as two more eyes were injured and it started to scramble up the wall again. It was now trying to get away since half its eyes were gone, but I transferred magic to my legs and jumped after it before it could get far. I stabbed my sword into its thorax as I climbed up its body and drew my sword out before stabbing it into another one of its eyes.

Black blood spilled everywhere and the spider screeched wildly as it fell back to the ground! It landed on its back this time and it started to wave its legs around desperately as it tried to get back up, but this battle was already over.

I limped towards the spider and it bared its fangs at me as it tried to get to me. I loosened the bandages on my arm and stabbed the spider's thorax before activating [Pyroclasm]. Black fire surged through my sword and entered into the injury as it burnt the [Night Fang] from the inside out. After a few seconds, the [Night Fang] stopped moving.

[Congratulations, you have killed a dungeon boss [Night Fang]]

[You are the first F rank to kill an F rank dungeon boss in 1v1 combat. Your rewards will be doubled.]

[Strength +10]

[Agility +12]

[Stamina +10]

[Magic Power +10]

[You have ranked up twice to E rank]

[You are the first [Dark] class mage to clear a [Dark] class dungeon and kill a [Dark] class dungeon boss on the first floor. You have gained the Unique Skill [Mana Drain - B]]

[Mana Drain – Siphon thirty percent of the magic power from your defeated enemies and make them your own. You can only drain mana from enemies you defeated yourself.]

[The [Heart of Darkness] is attempting to corrupt this skill. The skill is fighting against the corruption.]

[The skill failed to fight against the corruption. Corruption successful]

[[Mana Drain - B] has evolved into [Devour - A]]

[Devour – Siphon fifty percent of the magic power from your defeated enemies and make them your own. You can only drain mana from enemies defeated by you or your familiars.]

I sat down on top of the spider as I read through all of the prompts from my system. The rewards from the hunt were the same as the last time that I did this, so I didn't care about that. What I cared about the most was the new skill that was added to the system. [Devour] was my most precious skill in my last life. It was one of my best A rank skills, and I was going to need this skill if I want to become one of the most powerful rankers in the temple again. Even though strength and stamina were important in the temple, the most important thing for any mage was the amount of magic power that you possess.

[The [Heart of Darkness] wants to Devour the [Night Fang]]

[If the [Night Fang] is devoured, you will no longer be able to receive the drops from this monster]

'Don't you fucking dare,' I thought in irritation once I saw the prompt. This bastard is getting too greedy. I needed the skill books more than the mana right now, 'The monster doesn't even have that much mana. I'll let you devour some monsters that have more mana next time.'

[The [Heart of Darkness] is frowning in annoyance]

"Don't be such a baby," I said as I felt the body of the spider disappearing under me, "I'll give you something to devour later."

I jumped down from the [Night Fang] and watched it disappear into gold dust. In its place, I saw three books and a pair of black boots and gauntlets. These are the drops that rankers can get after defeating powerful enemies. Only dungeon bosses or extremely strong magic beasts leave behind drops after they die and after you defeat a dungeon once, it is impossible to get drops if you defeat the dungeon again.

It is very hard for F rankers to get all these drops on their own because F rankers couldn't challenge F rank dungeons, so they always have to share the drops with their teammates, and by the time they become E rankers, they will not be able to get drops again since they already challenged the dungeon as an F ranker. I was the first person to ever get drops in this dungeon as a solo fighter.

The three skill books that I got were

[Shadow Web – E: Summons an ethereal web of darkness that ensnares and immobilizes enemies, making them vulnerable to attacks.]

[Arachnid Swarm – E: Conjures a horde of shadowy spiders that attack and overwhelm foes, draining their life force or causing chaos.]

[Nightmarish Illusion – E-: Create illusions of terrifying spider-like creatures, inducing fear and confusion in enemies, disrupting their focus and causing them to falter]

All three of them were good skills, but the skills would not last long before they become useless. They were all E rank skills and if I go to a higher floor, then they will be useless against D or C rank monsters and rankers. I decided to learn two of them [Shadow Web] and [Arachnid Swarm], and I will sell the third one that was only an E- rank [Nightmarish Illusions]. Since it is an E- rank skill, then it will sell for at least two hundred bronze coins. It is very hard to get an E- rank skill on the first floor so I know that a lot of merchants will want to buy it.

The last items that were dropped were a pair of gauntlets and boots. They were part of the same armor since they had the same design pattern on them. They were black with spider web marking stretching across the surfaces.

[Arachnids Embrace – E: Boots and gauntlets crafted from the remains of the [Night Fang]. The boots and gauntlets work as a pair. They provide increased speed and agility, allowing the wearer to move with swift precision. It also enables the user to traverse vertical surfaces effortlessly, clinging to walls and ceilings like a spider.]

I decided that I would keep this one too. I needed a speed boost and I didn't have anything better to use for now. When I find a better pair in the future, then I will sell these. Once I equipped the boots and gauntlets, I felt my body getting lighter.

[You have equipped the [Arachnids Embrace - E]]

[Agility +5]

[You have gained the ability to scale walls]

It was time to get back to the guild, so I placed the skill book that I would sell into my purse and made my way out of the dungeon boss room.
