Chapter 20 - Still On Top

Ethan's heart raced, the sun's warm embrace painting an almost surreal backdrop for the fierce clash with the dread-inducing undead knight. Despite the sunlight's attempt to disperse it, the stench of decay still lingered in the air like a haunting presence.

Pushing past the discomfort, Ethan's gaze locked onto the impending confrontation, determination igniting his eyes and reflecting the sunlight. The undead knight moved with an unsettling, jerky motion that seemed to defy the natural order. A guttural growl, saturated with malevolence, reverberated from the undead knight as it charged forth.

Its corroded sword was held aloft, catching and reflecting sunlight in a dance of eerie brilliance. Preparedness oozed from every fibre of Ethan's being as he tightened his grip on his weapon, poised for what was to come.

As the undead knight's sword arced downward, Ethan's instincts surged to the forefront. Swiftly, he sidestepped the attack, the blade slicing through the air with a spine-tingling hiss.

Responding with fluid precision, Ethan countered with a forceful upward strike, his sword meeting the knight's rusted weapon in a resounding clash that unleashed a shower of sparks.

The impact sent tremors up Ethan's arms, yet he stood unwavering, his resolve unshaken.

Ethan's heart thudded in rhythm with the battle's intensity as he continued to engage in this lethal dance with his adversary.

Evading, ducking, and parrying with the elegance borne of countless hours of practice, Ethan moved to keep himself just out of the knight's reach.

The undead knight's assault was ceaseless, its blows infused with an eerie strength that defied its decayed form, leaving Ethan awestruck by the unnatural power at play.

With a roar that seemed to reverberate in the very fabric of the air, the undead knight lunged forward, its blade sweeping in a menacing horizontal arc. Reacting with reflexive swiftness, Ethan vaulted backwards, the gust created by the blade's path brushing over his skin.

Landing with a determined thud, he wasted no time in mounting a swift counterattack.

Ethan's blade sliced through the air with pinpoint precision, directed at the vulnerabilities in the knight's armour that he had meticulously observed.

The duel took its toll, Ethan breaths breath coming in ragged gasps, and his muscles straining under the battle's weight. But amid the struggle, Ethan's resolve burned ever brighter.

Amidst the chaos, a chance emerged – a brief stutter in the knight's attack. Capitalising on this vulnerability, Ethan lunged forward with unswerving determination, his blade unerringly finding its mark. The weapon slipped through a gap in the knight's armour, eliciting a harrowing howl from the undead creature. Staggering under the force of Ethan's strike, the undead knight retreated.

The echoes of its anguished cry dissipated into the air, leaving Ethan standing his ground, chest heaving and sweat glistening on his brow beneath the daylight. "Ehn, I'm still better," Ethan muttered with a triumphant smile, the thrill of the battle coursing through him.

Strangely, despite the battle's inherent danger, Ethan enjoyed it. Attempting to shake off the unusual sensation, he turned his attention to RageHeart. As he had anticipated, RageHeart was also wrapping up his battle.

As the symphony of conflict drew to its climax, RageHeart stood before the undead knight.

RageHeart breath came in laboured exhales, and his gauntleted fists bore the scars of their ruthless exchange. The undead knight, though worn and battered, still exuded an aura of malevolent tenacity.

Its decayed form seemed to pulse with an unnatural vitality as it eyed RageHeart with an unsettling hunger. With a guttural growl that echoed through the battlefield, the undead knight launched its final assault. Its corroded sword cleaved through the air with newfound vigour, an embodiment of its desperate struggle.

RageHeart's senses were heightened, every nerve alert as he readied himself for the ultimate clash.

In an instant, RageHeart instincts took over, propelling him into a seamless dance of evasion and retaliation.

RageHeart gauntlets moved like extensions of his very being, deflecting the undead knight's blows with uncanny precision.

The battle had honed RageHeart's reflexes to a razor's edge. With almost poetic grace, he sidestepped a sweeping strike, the blade's trajectory creating a gust of wind that ruffled his hair. Seizing the fleeting advantage, he closed the distance between them in a heartbeat.

With a primal roar that resonated with the force of a thunderclap, RageHeart unleashed a flurry of rapid strikes. His gauntlets found their marks on the knight's weakened armour, each blow ringing with a satisfying thud. The undead knight staggered.

As the battle reached its crescendo, RageHeart's relentless assault chipped away at the undead knight's remaining strength. With one final, earth-shaking blow, he aimed for a gap in the armour that he had pinpointed earlier. The impact was like a thunderbolt, a testament to RageHeart's indomitable will.

The undead knight let out a sound that was a mixture of a gurgled groan and a defeated sigh. A second later, it fell to the ground lifeless just as it should have been, like its partner that attacked the top player duo.

Breathing heavily, RageHeart stood over his fallen adversary, a mixture of exhaustion and triumph etched across his face.

With the battle won, RageHeart's shoulders relaxed, the tension that had gripped him slowly ebbing away.

RageHeart cast his gaze across his surroundings, his eyes meeting Ethan's in a shared acknowledgement of victory. The two fighters, different in their styles yet united by their unyielding determination, had triumphed.

Meanwhile, Mia, who was at a distance, was left in awe at everything that had just happened before her eyes. "Are all top 20 players this strong in real life?" She thought aloud as she watched the two in front of her place head towards themselves.

Seeing this, she quickly ran out of her hiding spot to Ethan's side. For some reason, the eyes RageHeart flashed at her made her very uneasy.
