Leaving now will be the best option for him. Although when he looked outside of the periphery of the village the only things Xander could see where tall trees, dark and gloomy, silent surroundings and no life; although he was sure that all manner of monsters were lurking in those shadows.
He didn't see anything else so he shook his head and then continued running towards the incoming horde of up to seventy dragonflies.
Xander striked dragon fly after dragon fly and that's when he noticed that the system doesn't even show damage points or anything.
It seems like it wasn't kidding with the real stuff it was saying.
Xander panted repeatedly as he was feeling fatigued from the strenuous fight that has been going on for over half an hour.
It was taking a toll on his mind and on his body also. His face glistened with sweat, making him look more handsome under the rays of the sun.
If there wasn't a monster attack, the other people would've admired him right now.
"Ahh!"
Xander shouted as he was lifted off the ground and carried away into the sky. He looked down to see what grabbed him as saw two scythes upside down in his armpits.
Just as he was about to try to escape an arrow came flying towards him and hit the creature's head, making it squeal in pain and drop Xander.
"AHHHH!"
Xander shouted at his situation which was a death situation again as he fell from a height of over fifty metres.
Xander suddenly opened his eyes to see himself in another person's arms. It was Anthony the head hunter.
He immediately rolled off Anthony's hands and fell to the floor as he began gasping for air.
He guessed that Emilia and the other villagers were already safe.
The others were then attacking the other dragon flies with their weapons and Xander didn't pay any attention.
All he could say we're a few words over and over again.
"I can't do this. I can't do this. I can't do this. I can't do this. I can't do this. I can't do this..."
It was like he was going insane slowly. His heart was beating mad fast as he thought about the feeling of almost dieing from a fall... It was traumatizing.
"Xander! I'm out of arrows!" Greg shouted and just pushed his barrow back and let the hunters continue to cut the monsters down.
Xander looked back and saw that the hunters seem to be getting weak as well.
It was like all hope was lost. Xander was thinking of abandoning this village.
If enough people survive, they can rebuild and start a new life elsewhere.
The dragon flies' numbers dwindled slowly and they were now a little over forty and the last hunter fell to the floor in exhaustion.
The dragon flies all flew up in unison and dived back down. They were quite high but Xander could imagine what they were about to do next.
"The consuming swarm move... I'm seeing it live." He said in awe.
The consuming swarm move was a move done by a large horde of flying, meat eating monsters. The monsters fly in unison and pass the creature they want to devour like a wave of water and then disperse, leaving only a pile of bones of the creature.
"Wait a minute. I'm in the group that is to be consumed." He said in sudden realisation and that's when he gripped his head.
The others were just staring at the creatures with enmity, hatred, fear, sadness and Xander could only think about what he should do.
"Come on Xander think. You have solved all the problems nature threw at you with your smarts, you can solve this one too just think..."
Just at that moment Xander's eyes caught a glimpse of a dragonfly rounding a strange blue fire that was just outside of the blacksmith's tent that they were close to.
"Maybe... Their attracted to light." He said as he put the puzzles together.
He has heard of flying insects flocking around light in his biology class. He secretly thanked God that he listened in class.
He immediately ran and left the group towards the blue flame that wasn't so far away.
The others didn't even notice him as they accepted their fate and surrendered completely, no hope evident in their eyes.
On the way Xander grabbed a pike which he used to impale the dragon fly's head to the floor.
He grabbed the wood that was perky lit with the strange blue flame on it and ran towards the outskirts of the village as fast as he could.
He grabbed a thin wooden tube that was filled with gas. He remembered that he saw Greg using it to light up something and he could use it for a systematic lure.
When he got to the outskirts of the village Xander immediately started tapping the trees with the wood torch and they lighted on the same blue Azure flames from earlier.
He immediately gathered some dry leaves from the surroundings and punctured a tiny hole in the wooden tube and lined the dry leaves in a not so long line.
He then lighted it and ran away to another side, a few metres away from what he just set up.
"Thank goodness I watched all those DIYs on YouTube. Now to make some noise." He mumbled as he looked at the creatures that have almost reached the humans below.
"Come on .. light, come on..." Just as he was waiting he saw that it was almost too late and he immediately ran towards the place he set up something... It was off.
He looked at the village and saw that the flies were very close to the small group and he took a gamble.
He grabbed a small branch of a tree and threw it at the gas tank, hoping that the creatures won't be very hungry to not be distracted.
