Chereads / Strongest Heir of The Fallen Gods / Chapter 8 - Second Trial

Chapter 8 - Second Trial

'Ahhhh, why does this keep happening to me' thought Licht while finding a better position to stay in, he had closed some of his wounds with strips made of his own clothes.

Tightening the wound around his legs with a cloth was better than leaving it to bleed everything out in his body.

Looking down, the cuts and bites on his skin weren't that deep and were superficial. But the pain these caused was immense in its own way.

After losing so much blood, Licht wanted just to sleep and rest this all off. Maybe it wasn't sleep but that was calling him or maybe there were others like the rats in these sewers right now.

Yet he didn't sleep. Fighting off the fatigue was the only way he could go on right now.

Caution was never a bad thing, instead, it could save his life. He was in an unfamiliar environment with similar monsters. He didn't know how he would even survive this all.

It was true that he chose to fight everything off just to be alive again, just to get out of that shitty life….No, that death.

'I won't survive the next fight as I am right now. Surviving is a far-fetched thing.'

The best he knew right now was that he need power, power to 'at least' survive, every other goal he might have couldn't even be seen.

'Let's just somewhat rest' In a half-conscious state he relaxed his breathing.

He was still conscious of what was happening outside. Surviving in prison at a young age wasn't easy. Even getting food that was supposed to be his own was tough.

Some people stole food, some vented their frustration at weaker ones, and some were just lunatics.

It was a vicious cycle and would always have been not for this apocalypse and superpower charade.

He was thankful and scared of this opportunity. Even he didn't know what the coming days held for him…

After around a lot of time, Licht got up from his place. He didn't have enough strength to stand on his own legs right so he had to use one hand to support his body while walking along the wall.

His sword was being dragged by his previous free hand, making a scraping sound along the floor.

Just as he was moving from the place he was previously resting in, he remembered something and called something in a low voice.

Licht couldn't help but blabber out, "Is this system high or something? What's with those weird lines and what does it mean LAME? That was literally my first fight!"

"My life really is damned…"

"Let's just see the shop thing it was saying about," said Licht, ready for utter disappointment but an unexpected smile found its way up to his face.

'It has potions!' Licht was elated with the things he saw but the more he looked at the more his mood changed.

Drastically, his mood changed from happiness to agony just because of one thing.

"The price tag….why are they soo expensive!" Licht wanted to scream himself out, the way things were going was too frustrating.

In the end, after browsing the whole transparent blue pamphlet, he found three things that he could buy.

'A potion, a stove, and a manual.'

[Minor health potion: 200 Calamity souls]

[Minor health potions are made from animal and plant extracts from the Pantheon of Dreams. Depending on the quality, they restore variable amounts of health upon consumption. The current potion heals minor injuries like cuts.]

[Dead's redemption stove: 400 Calamity souls]

[Any life form inside the Dead Zone is deadly to not only one's life but to their appetite as well. The Dead's redemption stove helps in cooking any kind of food in the Dead Zone, be it from dead and rotten animals or intoxicated plants. ]

[Basic Sword Manual: 400 Calamity Souls]

[Swordsmanship or sword fighting refers to the skills and techniques used in combat and training with any type of sword. Swordsmanship is the art of killing with a sword. Over the centuries, many styles and techniques have been created and perfected. This manual gives a brief about basic swordsmanship.]

There were many other things in the shop that Licht really wanted, but the necessity always came before wants here.

'I didn't really need the stove right now as I could buy food for cheap, just one calamity soul per meal, but I wouldn't have been able to keep it for whatever time I am here. Can't waste them when they are literally so hard to get.'

The health potion was self-explanatory, but the most important thing for his survival was the sword manual. He didn't have any knowledge even how to wield any kind of weapon.

It wasn't like they would teach people how to wield weapons, and from what he knew, his body would become better the more he trained with a sword. Currently, he was lacking three things: information, power, and safety.

They all were, in a nutshell, linked together. If he gained power, he would get safety. If he got information, he could gain power more efficiently and if he was safe, then he could get information by just being in that place.

'For the time being, I will just train here. It will be harder to get to the surface with the non-existent power I currently have…'
