The forest was quiet save for my humming. It wasn't normal, that I knew. Even if most of my time was spent in the concrete jungle that was New York I at least knew when something wasn't quite right.
It could be some monster that had claimed territory. That was what it usually was and that was what I would go off of for now. Even if it was far from the only possibility.
Hah- but that would be idiotic to just say that it was some monster and be rid of the mystery. It could also be that I had stumbled on one of the tribes hunting spot. Yeah they were sort of advanced but tribe was still the best word for them.
'Cause that was what they were, a tribe living in the forest.
Mmm... I hummed again. Data, Data, Data. That was all I needed from this place. Regardless of their thoughts on it. I could go and try again, maybe stay her for another couple months while we negotiate price and all that but no, that was too boring.
I searched through my pocket and pulled out a device. I infused it with a bit of magic and activated it. It disappeared and a ping echoed on my phone.
On and on. Walking through the forest, pulling out the device, receiving a ping. It was boring work made more boring by no one interrupting.
But I guess that was just asking for something to happen. And happen something did. "Far out aren't you, little lady." His voice was gruff, coming from the nearby trees.
He jumped down and landed a couple feet in front of me, and on all fours. Like come on, if you didn't want people to call you savages don't walk on all fours. Common sense really.
Oh- but it wouldn't do to call the tribe leader an idiot. At least not before I confirmed something. There was some whistling and humming. Loud enough for me to cringe at the sound.
"No... little prey."
Nope. Not dealing with this. I held up a finger. "One second." And it worked. Audacity and all that.
I clicked a few buttons on my phone and started a call.
He couldn't hear it but I could. It was a tired voice that answered me. "Yes, need something Lily?" She snarled out. Obviously angry at having been woken up this late.
I spoke and she listened. Until I got my confirmation.
"Fine just make it look like an accident."
"Great thank you."
There it was. I smiled like the canary who caught their prey. "See old man... I've been pleasant. I've tolerated a lot. But now..." I laughed. "Now I have permission."
I didn't even wait for him to react. Instead I kicked off the ground and wrapped my fist around his neck. He kicked the ground too and got out of my grip. Not before I took something from him.
Blood pooled on the ground and between my fingers. I threw his shoulder to the ground, watching as he limped on two legs and one arm.
'Oh~ this'll make a great meal for him...'
Even in the heat of battle I couldn't help but think about him... about Inari, my son. Mine. I licked my lips and let the blood fall from my hands. Drawing a rune in the air that captured it into a sort of ball.
Yeah... it'll be a grand meal. A grand gift.
The old man glared at me with defiant eyes, finally walking on two legs, like a person rather than a savage. He glared and glared but oh~ where was the defiance. None~ Well that was just great. Wasn't it?
I leaped again, magic wrapping around my fist as I punched at him. He dodged out of the way but his face just grew more pale as more and more blood poured from his shoulder.
Mm~ Pouncing again he wasn't able to dodge this time. I had wrapped my influence tight around the mana, turning it more into a honey like substance, hard for him to even wrap his fingers around, let alone use it as mana was intended.
I smirked.
My fist punched through his chest. I took hold of his heart and took that lifeblood for what it was. Mine. And soon to be his.

"Nothing?" The voice asked. The voice was boringly professional. Nothing but an even tone.
"Yep," I said cheerily, "nothing, at least that's what the data shows."
"Ok, send it back to HQ, personally."
"Aww…" I pout, making sure I put up a little fight, even if it was superficial at best. "fine" I couldn't disobey orders now could I. No, that wouldn't be right. And I couldn't be wrong... I was never wrong. Never.
"Good. Expect to be extracted in approximately two hours."
I nod. Humming a slight tune as I walk back to camp. And sure enough, it wasn't too long before I found myself in my personal tent. Perks of being high ranked. And lo and behold, among the sameness I had grown used to, was something most exciting.
In a sleeping bag, curled up, was Inari. Looking as cute as he always did.
I packed everything away. It all fit into two tightly packed bags. I tilted my head, hmm... oh- there really wasn't anything to pack for him was there.
Shaking my head I quietly woke Inari up. Cooing at his groan as he blinked his eyes open. "We're leaving in a bit. Ok?"
He nodded and stifled a big yawn. It was like a cat stretching out, you just wanted to suffocate them in a bit giant hug.
So cute~
Ah- I pinched his cheeks and snapped my fingers. And there it was. It appeared in the air, a giant ball of blood I had prepared specifically for him. Mmm~ I hope he likes my gift.

I felt the ball of blood land in my hands, it was quite squishy, and I had fun playing with it for a moment. It also helped to establish even further my childlike nature in Lily's mind.
Then without any more fanfare I put it in my mouth and popped it. The orb of blood let out everything in my mouth and I gulped it down.
It tasted weird, sort of like vegetables but it was a gift so I sucked it up and swallowed all of it.

I blinked and checked my status.
