Chapter 36 - Chapter 35

Roan sat on the bed and turned to his left where the small table was. He rummaged through his bag on that table and took out the book of Necromancy.

He hadn't really had the chance to read the book properly. He had the chance but didn't take it was the right sentence but that wasn't the most questionable thing Roan had done at Tolaga.

Roan opened the leathery cover of the book, revealing the letters inside which he had already seen before. He flipped through the pages containing the introduction of Magus, the mediation technique and other things that he had already read before. He only stopped after arriving at the page which contained information about spells.

When he first read the book, the information in the first few pages captured his attention causing him to ignore the pages on the last. But the kidnapping, which had forced him to pass several hurdles to escape, had taught him something.

He wasn't strong enough and had limited fighting capabilities even after awakening as a Necromancer. That had become apparent in his fight with the muscular man and the masked man. If he didn't have his zombies at that time then he would have been dead within seconds as he was already empty of ether after using time deceleration. And that was his main problem. Getting exhausted too quickly while using time deceleration. While it was a powerful ability, it also consumed ether very fast. But that wasn't all. It also left him exhausted both physically and mentally which would weaken him severely.

So he hoped that there were some spells which would help him in fights, not consume entirely everything in his body in one use and also diversify his fighting ability. After all, he couldn't just take a group of his zombies to fight for him wherever he went. It would be a death wish to do so and would definitely land him in the church's guillotine.

Roam skimmed through the page introducing spells and flipped to another page which introduced the method of casting spells.

There were three of them:

Chanting which was as its name suggested uttering the words that evoked various effects from ether. The language used during chanting was called the Arcane Tongue created during the Arcane era, Around two to three thousand years ago. Chanting was the easiest but the most time-consuming method of casting spells. That was if you knew the Arcane tongue. Otherwise, it was the hardest.

And the second method of casting spells was Creating a spell construct, a structure created using various runes. A spell construct should be created in the mental space or also called soul space which would then absorb ether and allow a magus to cast a spell. It was an easy process. But the spells cast using this method were a bit weaker than spells cast using chanting.

And finally came the innate abilities, the easiest way of casting spells but also the most limiting as innate abilities couldn't be learned. It awakens during the awakening process of a magus. And a magus with basic elements like fire, water, earth, wind, lightning, ice and metal could only use one innate spell or ability and that was the basic enhance, a basic elementless spell which enhanced anything the magus wanted to. Like, weapons, senses and even physical attributes.

But magus with greater elements like Life and death had two more innate abilities on top of 'enhance'. The life element gave a magus two abilities which were: Heal(the ability to heal its own body or even other people) and undying(an ability which granted its owner longer life than average) while the death element gave its owner a Raise undead and Time deceleration.

Roan then flipped to another page on which 'Spell levels' was written on top. The classification of the spells was simple. It started with Cantrips, the most basic and elementless spells and then came the basic spells like fireball and wind blade.

And even above basic spells were advanced spells which were said to be extremely complex and powerful.

Roan then again flipped to another page, his hunger for knowledge still not finished. This page contained numerous writing in a language that he couldn't understand. He realised it was the chants for some basic cantrips but he couldn't read a single letter.

So, he flipped to another page where there were a couple of complex structures drawn. These looked like the spell constructs.

The spell constructs were formed with two circles interconnected by numerous intricate lines in between them. Roan's head started to hurt after seeing the complex drawings. He needed a break.

He closed the book and put it aside. He had read enough. It was time to make some decisions.
