Alice laughter continued for what seemed to be an eternity, and Killer had to control Alice's mouth in order to stop it.
"Stop laughing ! You're giving away our location !"
"What's the problem with that ? There is nobody left here ! I'm alone ! Alone !"
As Alice just said that, she heard a deafeaning sound coming from her left. She gazed in that direction, but saw nothing because of the darkness.
Suddenly, she felt it.
It was a weird feeling, one she only experienced once in her short life, back when a white-haired version of herself attempted to murder her.
Killing intent.
Someone, or something, wanted to kill her.
However this time, there wasn't Mirror to help her. She was in utter darkness, uncapable of seeing anything. And, to add insult to injury, her opponent was probably much more dangerous than the white-haired Alice.
Killer was able to stay cool-headed even in that situation.
Killer immediatly took control of Alice's body, and, relying on instinct, dodged the oncoming attack.
The monster was anything but slow however, and judging by his behavior, he was probably able to see in the dark quite well.
"Killer... give up, it's no use."
"Never !"
Killer begun thinking.
Based on what she saw before the darkness, she was in a small grove, with some trees around her. There was a lot of things on the ground, so hearing the monster's footsteps was going to be easy... sadly, that was probably her only advantage.
How could she win this battle despite the odds being overwhelmingly in her ennemy's favor ?
Running away ? If her ennemy was faster than her, it was suicide. And even if he wasn't, running in the darkness was always a very risky gamble.
Trying to kill the things in front of her was also risky, however. Killer knew next to nothing about the ennemy, but she was pretty sure the malnourished body of a small thirteen years old girl couldn't do much to injure it.
She then come to the conclusion that she needed a weapon.
Killer avoided another hit, thanks to a combination of good hearing, fast reflexes and sheer luck, and rolled away from the ennemy, landing beetween two trees she didn't even saw.
Her hands searched on the ground frantically: Killer had a very limited amount of time before the next attack.
Yet, in that short time window, she found what she searched for.
A branch. Yes, it wasn't the most... powerful weapon, but it was better than just using her bare fists.
Killer got up on her feet in the blink of an eye, and flung her improvised weapon in the direction she thought her ennemy was, based on the sounds that ennemy made by walking. With all of her strenght.
The monster took the hit in what Killer assumed to be the face...
... and, without even flinching, he punched Killer in the abdomen, while her weapon shattered at the impact with his skin.
Alice's body flew, and when she landed, there was blood in her mouth. She felt as if some of her bones were broken.
"None of our bones are broken, we're alright." said Killer.
Although she was trying to play tough, there was pain in her voice.
Alice laughed again, but this time, her laughter was both short and sarcastic.
"Just give up... our opponent is way too strong, and the only person who could help us isn't even here... Mirror knew I was going to die here. She betrayed me..."
"Stop saying nonsense." replied Killer.
She would have liked to continue scolding Alice, but she had better things to do. Like trying to survive.
The monster was not far, after all. Not far at all.
Alice continued her complaints.
"If I knew this would have turned to this, I would have asked Nikoletta to kill her. I should have listen to her. Mirror... I hate that girl. She's not even human, in a way."
The monster lunged towards the defensless human child, trying to kill it...
But, Killer once again dodged what would have probably been a killing blow. Blinded by the darkness, and considering the speed of her opponent, the fact she was even able to dodge anything at all was not just the mark of a prodigy: it was simply above what a human could do.
The problem was that, to win a fight, just avoiding what your opponent was going for was insufficient.
Killer needed to hurt the monster despite how weak Alice's body was.
Using a branch to hit the monster was just not enough. She needed... something more.
"Mirror, I hope you die. And soon."
"That's it !"
Alice was surprised by Killer's sudden outburst.
"What do you mean ?"
Killer didn't bother answering Alice's question .
She had found a way to win.
"You found a way to win ? Sorry, but I really doubt it."
Killer froze, allowing the monster to throw out another devastating blow.
She hadn't said "I have a way to win.", yet Alice had talked as if she did.
Alice had just heard her thoughts. She probably didn't even realize what she just did, but that was the truth.
How was that even possible ?
Killer would have liked to find an answer to this question, but she was really busy.
Not dying was quite hard, here in the Sky.
Killer thought about the monster. She didn't knew what shape it was, how powerful it was.
And the only way of killing it was something Killer had no idea how to do, and had never done before.
"I don't know what you want to do, but it's probably going to be useless."
"I'm going to kill that thing in one hit."
"What a bad liar."
Killer smiled, using Alice's body.
The next attack that the monster threw was a feint. Killer got tricked into thinking her opponent was trying to grab her, and the monster took advantage of that by tearing the left side of Alice's face with his claws.
Alice tried to scream, but Killer didn't allow it.
Yet, she, too felt the pain.
Losing an eye wasn't a particularly pleasant experience, to say the least. And considering the seriousness of the wound, it could possibly be a lethal injury.
But Killer, despite the pain, the doubt, and Alice trying to get back the control of her body, wasn't done yet.
She threw a punch.
With her weak body.
Strangely, the pain Alice and Killer experienced while punching was somehow greater than the one they got by losing an eye.
It was a weird type of pain as well.
Something... not physical.
But all of this didn't matter much.
The punch wasn't avoided. The monster likely wasn't able to avoid something going so fast.
When Killer hit the strange monster, she broke his skin, his bones, his muscles, and, his brain, killing it instantly.
Blood spluttered all over the place as the inert body of the monster fell on the floor.
Just like that, the fight was over.
Just like that, the harrowing being had been vainquished by a young girl.
Well... yes, but the price to pay was dire.
Alice had lost a lot of blood, an eye, and... something else, too.
Covered in blood, Killer sat on the grass not far from the body of the dead foe, and said with a weak voice:
"You saw that Alice... I'm not a liar...I really did... beat that guy in one hit..."
And then, the both of them passed out.
