"Self-defense what?!" Jaden asked in a high tone of voice which was quite unlike him. But Zuri's statement had shocked him deeply.
"Classes," Zuri said with a little crease of her full and well-carved brows. It was as if she already knew what Jaden's response would be and she wasn't ready to hear it at all. Her mind was made up and she was going to have this whether he liked it or not. If she had to hide to get trained in fighting, then hide she would!
"You don't need that," Jaden said, returning his gaze to the paper he was writing on.
"I do."
"You don't."
"I do, Jaden…" Zuri said. This time, the tone of her voice changed and she sounded serious.
"Why? I'm here, aren't I?" he asked. "And I'm not going to ever leave you alone… especially for something to happen to you," Jaden said to her. He looked directly into her bright eyes; "I'll always be there for you."
