Chapter 7 - Chapter 6

Adelaide had realized that she had been foolish. She had let down her guard, and now their titles had been taken. Her brother was there to comfort her to some extent. Adelaide appreciated the gesture, but she couldn't just believe that they were going to be all right.

'You've become a coward,' a voice spoke. 'You already know what to do, and you keep saying that you will do it, but you don't. Because in reality, you know you'll never be able to live up to people's expectations.' Adelaide had to cover her ears in an attempt to get the voice to shut up. A part of her knew this attempt was futile but refused to admit it.

"Shut up," Adelaide grumbled. What she'd give to get her self-esteem back.

"But I haven't even said anything at all," her sibling countered. Right, Leoric was still here. Adelaide envied him a bit.

"Sorry, it's been a rough day," Adelaide informed.

"Not just for you, you know," Leoric said, giving Adelaide a pointed look.

"And I don't have time for your whining," Adelaide muttered, heading to her room. Scratch that. She was running.

"The only thing I can do is offer comfort at the moment," Filippa said, her gaze drifting to the floor every so often. At first, she was confused when Adelaide requested to arrive at her house.

"It's fine, I just don't understand what I've done to deserve this," Adelaide confessed, holding back an ugly sob. Filippa didn't even need to read her expression to determine how she was feeling at the moment. And it pained her a lot to see her best friend in this state.

Leoric knew very well that he had been hurt before. But taking away their only chance of living a sort of normal life was too much to bear.

And it hurt beyond measure. If Leoric didn't hate his father before, he did now.

Leoric gazed at the torn portrait of his old man: the only memory of his father's appearance. He was going to kill him one day.
