Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 The Engagement Banquet

Sarah stood still as she received the notification of a deposit of 1 million dollars in her bank account.

She looked at her mother beside her and only reacted after a while. "Mom, I just received a million dollars in my bank account."

"What is it? One million?"

Nita immediately snatched the phone and double-checked several times.

After confirming that it was an official message from the bank, she hugged her daughter in excitement.

The Smith family might not care about this mere 1 million dollars, but it meant a lot to Sarah and her mother.

Although she was a C-list celebrity, Sarah hadn't received any acting offers for a long time.

Her recent involvement with Tom was also for the sake of a movie role.

"Sarah, could it be that Charles transferred the money to you in advance?"

Nita couldn't think of who else would transfer the money at this time.

Sarah rolled her eyes in disdain and replied, "Him? I bet he can't even come up with 100,000 dollars right now, let alone 1 million!"

"Besides, didn't you agree 500,000 today? Would he be so kind to give an extra 500,000?"

But there was no message or indication of who transferred the money at the bottom of the text.

Sarah couldn't determine who it was at the moment.

It was 8 p.m.

Tess called Charles into the room and interrogated him for over an hour as if he were a criminal.

However, she couldn't extract any reasonable explanation, so she had no choice but to give up.

Wendy happened to enter the room with a plate of delicious food. "Mom, Charles, it's time for dinner!"

In recent years, Wendy had been the one doing the cooking and household chores.

Tess worked as a cleaner during the day and stayed up late to do some manual work to sell.

Over time, her health deteriorated.

Charles remained kneeling on the ground.

When he saw Wendy enter, he instinctively stood up and smiled, "Mom, have you been feeling dizzy often? I'll get you some medicine tomorrow."

"Why waste money? It's unnecessary. I'm just tired, I'll be fine with more rest."

Although Tess said so, she was actually lying to her two children.

A few days ago, she suddenly collapsed on the street and was taken to the hospital by a kind-hearted person. After undergoing tests, she was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

The doctor suggested she be hospitalized for treatment, but where could she find the money?

She just wanted to endure as long as she could.

Charles knew his mother was stubborn and wouldn't easily listen.

He nodded and said, "Alright, it's hard for me to be released, let me taste Wendy's cooking first."

"Charles, I remember you and Mom love beef stew. This is specially made for you," Wendy said.

As Charles looked at the beef in the bowl, along with his gentle mother and obedient sister, his eyes suddenly welled up with tears.

"Thud!"

He knelt in front of his mother again and shouted, "Mom, I'm sorry. I'm an unfilial son!"

"I swear that I will make sure that you and Wendy live a good life in the future, and I won't let anyone look down on you again!"

This was not empty talk or an idle promise.

He would fulfill all his promises within half a year!

On the day of the engagement banquet of the Wilson and Thompson families.

Many high-ranking officials and wealthy people from Starbain gathered at the Woodside mansion.

This was one of the most famous mansions in Starbain and even the entire state.

The Wilson family had snatched it from many other wealthy people for 8 billion dollars back then.

It had now become the face of the Wilson family.

In the parking lot, there were luxury cars worth millions of dollars lined up in a long queue.

Among them was Tom's Maserati Quattroporte.

After he got out of the car with Sarah, he smiled and said, "See? This is the Woodside mansion of the Wilson family. Not everyone can come in."

Although Tom was just the department head of YNT Entertainment Company, the Lewis family behind him was also well-known in the commercial circle of Starbain.

That was why Sarah tried every means to get close to him.

As long as she could marry Tom, she would be a wealthy lady from then on.

Who else in the Smith family would dare to look down on her?

"Tom, you're amazing!" Sarah held Tom's neck directly and gave him a hard kiss.

However, her gaze happened to fall on Charles, who was standing in front of the mansion gate.

She suddenly widened her beautiful eyes and looked very surprised.

She rubbed her eyes but found that Charles had disappeared.

"What's wrong?" Tom frowned and asked.

Sarah regained her senses and suddenly laughed at herself, "It seems I was mistaken. I thought I saw Charles just now."

"Huh, Charles? That idiot doesn't even qualify to be a cleaner here!"

When they entered the mansion, Charles happened to come out of the security room.

He had brought an invitation, but he was stopped because he wasn't Brian in person.

It was Brian who personally arranged for him to come in later.

Charles wasn't in a hurry. He just wanted to get close to Evelyn and investigate the truth about being framed and imprisoned.

For some reason, he always felt that the matter of falsifying his thesis was also related to this woman.

Speaking of which, Charles was amazed by the luxury of the mansion.

The best place he had ever been to before was the villa of his college counselor when he was in college.

It was just a two-story small house that made him envious.

With an invitation, he became a distinguished guest of both the Wilson and Thompson families.

He could drink expensive liquor and eat high-end desserts here as much as he wanted.

Because he didn't know anyone, Charles found a corner to sit down when he entered the mansion.

Not long after he sat down, he heard a cry of surprise. "Charles, it's indeed you?!"

When Sarah passed by and saw Charles, she immediately covered her mouth and looked incredulous.

Where was this place?

It was the Woodside mansion of the Wilson family!

The guy in front of her was just a prisoner who had just been released from prison. How could he enter such a place?!

Her voice was not loud, but it attracted many guests around her.

On the other hand, Charles still looked at Sarah calmly.

He had already guessed that Tom would bring this cheap woman here.

"We'll settle the score between us later. I don't want to see you now. Get lost."

Sarah never thought that her once cowardly husband would dare to yell at her.

The commotion drew Tom over to them.

When he saw Charles' appearance, he was suddenly stunned.

After confirming that he was not mistaken, he gritted his teeth and cursed, "Trash, what qualifications do you have to enter the Woodside mansion?"

"I know. You must have snuck in. Where's the security? Hurry up and chase this trash out!"

Tom and Sarah's shouts became louder and louder.

More and more people came to watch the show.

"I hope that you two can disappear from my sight as soon as possible."

"Hahaha, who do you think you are? You want us to disappear?"

The sound was too loud, and it attracted the third young master of the Wilson family, Edward Wilson.

He had a tall figure and a handsome appearance.

Tall and handsome, was the standard among the young masters of the Wilson family and the selection criteria for the socialites of Starbain.

As soon as Edward arrived, Tom changed his attitude and politely greeted him with enthusiasm.

Then they exchanged a few more words in a low voice before Tom pointed at Charles and scolded, "Mr. Edward, it was that fellow who sneaked into the Woodside mansion!"

Edward glanced at Charles condescendingly.

Realizing that he was just a pauper, Edward immediately questioned, "The security system of the Wilson family has always been strict. I'm wondering how you got in?"

He was notorious for being a spoiled playboy, the kind who was fearless and dared to defy anyone in the circle of wealthy second-generation individuals. No one dared to easily provoke him.

Charles glanced back at Edward and then calmly replied, "I was invited by the elders of the Wilson family."

This seemingly simple answer shocked everyone present!
