Chapter 4 - IV - Ferrum's Beginning

In the middle of a forest we're a group of 4 adventurers. All of them were around the age of 20-25 and all were dressed in different kinds of clothes. A male donned on armor that covered his entire body with a massive sword on his back. Another male wore only a coat carrying a dagger and a bow. A female with armor wielded a spear and the other held a sword, wearing a coat.

"Where the hell is this thing!?" The male with heavy and barely mobile armor said. Sweat trickled down his forehead.

"Gerald, you know you complain a lot right? We are barely even halfway there and we just left the fucking village." The other male said.

"Eranheart, I don't want to hear anything come out of your mouth when you just became Adventurer 3rd Class. The last hunt we did, you screwed it up."

"Blah blah blah, shut up Cerana. Why don't you use something besides that spear? Did your father tell you that if you can believe it you could achieve anything? Well looks like being a Dragoon just isn't suited for you." Eranheart barked back.

The two stopped and started to argue with each other until the last female spoke in a silent but stern voice

"Silence."

The two stopped and turned towards the woman who smiled at them. They immediately bowed and apologized.

"We apologize, Lady Yoshida." Eranheart said.

"We won't do it again." Cerana promised but the woman would only snicker.

"Except you will. Am I wrong?" She said before turning away.

The two glared at each other for a quick second before following Lady Yoshida.

As a few minutes passed, Lady Yoshida noticed something strange in the distance.

There was a clutter of black trees. Upon a closer glance, the group arrived in a scorched field where a massive salamander sat, feasting on what looked like the bottom half of a cow.

"Uh, finally! Let's kill this thing now, shall we?" Gerald said, drawing his sword.

"I get first blood." Eranheart said before darting forward.

"Not on my watch!" Cerana chased after Eranheart, spinning her spear.

The two thrust their weapons at the salamander but it quickly sprinted away, causing the two to miss.

Gerald swung his sword and the salamander jumped over his swing before smacking him with its tail. Gerald tipped over and groaned as he tried to get up.

"Idiot, no one told you to wear so much armor." Cerana said as she helped Gerald up.

"Be quiet, I swore to myself I ain't going out hunting unless I wear a lot of protection. Don't want you stabbing me on accident again."

Cerana smacked the back of Gerald's head before chasing after the salamander.

Gerald shook his head before glancing at Lady Yoshida who was simply watching.

"Lady Yoshida, will you not raise your blade?"

Lady Yoshida watched as Cerana and Eranheart fought fiercely in an attempt to slay the salamander. She would then close her eyes before shaking her head.

"I will wait. Unless you guys can defeat it, I will be watching."

Gerald scratched the side of his helmet as he walked forward.

The two fighting the salamander were only able to land a single blow to it; they were only able to cut its tail though it had already regenerated back.

"Damn it, this thing is pretty fast." Eranheart said as he fired another arrow at the salamander which was only deflected back at him. Fortunately he evaded just in time.

Cerana clashed with the salamander. Her spear managed to hit the salamander's skin but because of its slimy skin, her attacks would only slide against it.

The salamander fired fireballs at Cerana which the latter blocked and parried. She would create a ball of ice and throw it at the salamander, hitting one of its arms, sticking it to the ground.

Gerald rushed forward and swung his sword down on the salamander. The salamander ripped off its arm and managed to escape.

"This thing just can't stay still!" Gerald shouted as he threw his blade at the salamander. Surprisingly, it managed to pierce through the salamander's body. The salamander wiggled around a bit before Cerana stuck her spear through the salamander's head. With her frost Magic, she froze the salamander entirely but not until Eranheart picked one of its eyes out.

Once frozen, Gerald delivered a powerful blow, shattering the salamander into pieces. To finish it off, Eranheart planted his hand into the ground before creating a pool of lava beneath the shattered pieces.

The three watched as the pieces burned and then Eranheart closed the hole. They turned towards Lady Yoshida who was behind them and presented the eye to her.

"Good. See what you can do if you just work with each other?" She said, causing the three to blush in embarrassment.

"We should get back. It's getting late. If we had done this earlier in the day then we could've done at least three more. Let's work harder tomorrow, shall we?"

The three nodded and then Lady Yoshida noticed a shadow fly by. She looked up and saw a glimpse of a tail.

"What the hell was that?" Cerana asked.

"I don't know but it looked like it went that direction." Eranheart responded when suddenly there was a giant crash noise.

Crows flocked towards the skies as the ground shook slightly.

"You think we should go check it out?" Gerald said but everyone was already heading towards that direction.

"Okay then."

Lady Yoshida was the first to arrive and upon arrival, she noticed a huge crater.

Approaching the crater laid a man with tattered clothes and an amulet around his neck.

"Lady Yoshida, what is it?" Cerana asked until she looked down.

"A man? Who the hell is it?" Eranheart said before descending the crater.

Eranheart walked up to the man and inspected him, searching for any injuries. When nothing was seen, he took off his coat and covered him.

Gerald approached Eranheart and handed the man to him.

"Shall we bring him back to the village, Lady Yoshida?"

She nodded and the group began walking back to the village. The sun set slowly as they walked back.
