Chapter 1 - A Watchful Red-Eye

One blood-red eye glared at Lucas who was lying facing the sky. But there was no sky up there, only a giant eyeball and darkness surrounding it.

Lucas froze for a moment, his mind confused by what had just happened to him.

"How the hell did I get here?"

Just a short while ago, Lucas was beaten to near death by Simon. Suddenly, as he passed out, he heard a faint voice inside his head and he instantly arrived at this place.

As that one giant blood-red eye blinked, the world below momentarily darkened.

The longer Lucas stared into the giant blood-red eye, the more he felt his soul slowly being sucked out.

Lucas quickly closed his eyes. After calming down enough, he then sat up and observed his situation.

His mind was as clear as ever, though he still didn't understand what was happening to him.

Lucas realized that he was trapped inside a circle 15 meters in diameter. He was surrounded by a dark wall that fell from the edge of the blood-red eye above.

The lighting in the place was red and dim.

There was nothing unusual about the black stone floor beneath his feet, except that it was very cold.

Lucas stood up and examined his body. Since arriving in this strange place, he realized that he was completely naked. Besides, there was something else wrong with his body.

All the wounds on Lucas' body from the previous fight against Simon had healed as if he had never fought at all. The pain in his body has also disappeared.

Lucas felt that his body was vigorous, not limp like usual. He had never felt like this in his entire life, not even in his previous life.

His body was in top shape, or so he thought.

"Hmm... Am I dreaming? Or, did I die after that fight?" Lucas muttered, it was the most reasonable conclusion he could think of.

As Lucas walked into the pitch blackness that surrounded him, a man unexpectedly appeared through the dark wall in front of him.

Lucas' steps halted, his eyes narrowed to scrutinize the mysterious man's appearance from top to bottom.

His forehead wrinkled.

The man's appearance looked very messy, or rather gruesome. His skin was as pale as a corpse, and it was also covered in tiny purple veins that looked extremely disgusting.

The most disturbing thing about that man was his eyes. His eyes were completely black and filled with gloom as if looking into a bottomless pit. There was nothing there but emptiness and despair.

He wore light armor that was tattered, dirty, and badly damaged. The sound of rusting metal could be heard every time he took a step while dragging his rusted sword.

It seemed that the man was a knight or something, maybe before.

"Hey, who are you?" Lucas tried to ask. His hunch told him that something unpleasant was about to happen.

There was no response from the man, he just walked towards Lucas until he suddenly raised his sword with both hands in front of his chest, then ran quickly.

"Wait a minute, at least tell me what's happening to me now! Am I dead?"

*Whish!*

After Lucas said those words, the man's rusty sword was already slashing. Lucas backed away, avoiding the sword's slash.

Instantly the man slashed again. Lucas gasped, the tip of the blade hitting the skin of his chest. His eyes lowered to look at the wound, blood was oozing and he could feel a slight sting.

'It hurts.' Lucas thought.

The man's rusty sword repeatedly whistled wildly in the air, sending a painful promise of death to Lucas. As a result, Lucas was continuously forced to retreat.

*Whish! Whish! Whish...!*

Lucas skillfully and carefully dodged all of the man's sword slashes. While moving nimbly to avoid the uneven blades in the air, he waited for the right moment to counter the man's attacks.

There was one important thing about the oddity he was currently facing, and that was that he could feel pain and injury. So, he had to be careful not to make any mistakes that could jeopardize his life.

Finally, the man slashed wide, and it was the perfect time for Lucas to spring into action. Lucas rushed forward and kicked the man's hand until the sword slipped from his grasp.

The man was about to take his sword back, but before his hand could reach it, Lucas kicked him in the face.

As the man fell backward, Lucas hurriedly picked up a rusty sword and used it to cut off the man's hand.

A piercing scream came out of the man's mouth. It didn't sound like a human scream, but more like the scream of a beast.

Lucas shuddered. Before the man returned to attack him with more ferocity, he had cut off his head.

The man's body fell and no longer moved, blood flowing out through his severed neck and hands.

Lucas sighed, he intended to forcibly interrogate the man, but it seemed that the man was not someone to talk to.

'Is he a zombie?'

Before Lucas could ease his body's tension, two men similar to the man just now suddenly appeared. Just like the first zombies - now Lucas assumes that they are zombies, they appear through the dark wall but from the opposite direction.

"What the hell!"

It was obvious that the zombies would attack him too. So, before they approached him and attacked him together, Lucas attacked one of them first.

The zombie immediately went on guard at the sight of Lucas walking quickly towards him, it seemed that the zombies still had a bit of intelligence left in their heads.

When Lucas felt he was close enough to the zombie, he quickened his footsteps and swung the sword in his hand.

The zombie did the same.

*Slash!*

The zombie's head fell, followed by its body. Lucas only took a glance before rushing to the front of the dark wall that confined him.

Lucas touched the dark wall with the tip of his sword. The dark wall was no different from an ordinary wall. He thought for a moment before his hand touched the dark wall, the wall was really solid and hard, and also cold.

'So, how could the zombies emerge from this dark wall?'

Lucas wanted to do a simple experiment, but unfortunately, one of the remaining zombies was already behind him, raising a sword.

At the same time, he saw two other zombies appear and ran straight at him.

*Clang!*

The sound of two sharp metal objects clashing was heard, Lucas twisted his sword and then stabbed the zombie in the stomach.

But the zombie didn't fall and die, it could still move. Somehow Lucas wasn't too surprised. He quickly withdrew his sword from the zombie's body and retreated, avoiding another flash of rusty steel that threatened his life.

By the time Lucas swung his sword once, the zombie's head was already off its neck.

Lucas had no time to rest as two zombies were already in front of him. To his left and right, two other zombies also appeared and they ran with swords in hand.

Now he had to deal with four zombies, which made the frown on his forehead deepen.

"Damn!"

His power stats with the zombies were almost the same, so in this battle, he could only rely on the skills he had practiced over the years.

The longsword was not the type of sword he chose as his weapon, but he still used the longsword every day for hand-muscle training.

It is no wonder that he is also proficient with the longsword, especially with the power currently in his body.

The two zombies attacked him almost simultaneously.

Lucas took a step forward and his sword collided with the sword of a nearby zombie. Taking one more step with his body down, he quickly beheaded another zombie.

He instantly twisted his body and slashed the neck of the zombie he had just passed. The zombie's blood then flowed down his naked body.

More zombies appeared around him, this time there were four. So, now Lucas had to fight six zombies, and he was sure that number would still increase.

And that's right, four zombies appeared after Lucas killed the two zombies that had just come at him, bringing the total zombies he had to defeat to eight.

Standing near the edge of the strange place, Lucas lifted his face and looked up at the giant eye watching him up there.

That one eye looked familiar, or maybe it was just the feeling.

It didn't take long until the zombies were already nearby. It would be too costly for him to keep fighting in the midst of them all, so he approached the dark wall after killing the one zombie in his way.

He used the wall to protect his back, but he also had to watch out in case a zombie appeared behind him.

There were six zombies closest to him, the two closest already swinging deadly slashes at him.

Lucas then attacked the two zombies in front of him. As his sword clashed with theirs, a crack suddenly appeared on the blade before it finally broke.

Another deadly slash soon scraped his skin. Lucas tried to hold back their swords from hurting him further, but four more zombies came and simultaneously attacked him.

He did his best to dodge all their attacks, but it was impossible, some of them managed to hit him. Pain radiated throughout his body as the zombies' swords wounded him.

*Splat! Slash! Stap...!*

More pain soon followed.
