Chapter 21 - Openly Leaving the City.

" Killing such an enormous and terrifying dragon with only my name is something not to be trifled with. I don't believe that such power has no price or restrictions at least, just in case, I'll refrain from using it till I reach the second realm and ask the dragon god about it." Sam thought.

And then he suddenly had another thought, and the previous idea he just had vanished into thin air, replaced by a much better one.

" No, no, I should come to terms with my new reality. The dragon god's help was gone after the questions and the three objects he gave me. Plus, I can't rely on him; this is my life, my path, and not his; I'll have to figure out all of this by myself; I'll test this ability once I'm far away from this city and understand its hidden dangers and restrictions."

' Hm? What's that.' Sam thought as he looked at a round object shining in black light on top of the dragon's tongue.

He held it with his hand and inspected it, and even though he didn't know what he was doing, he had a feeling that he knew what the round object was.

' Maybe a beast core like almost every fantasy novel?'

Even though he had a guess at what it might be, he still had no real information, and he didn't know if he was right or wrong.

Thus, he chose to get some books or information from anyone later on to help him understand what this round object is that came out of the dragon's mouth and also come to know this world better while he was at it.

At the end of the day, only books provide the best information in the world, and that can never be changed no matter the universe one is in.

Even the internet information they had in their world was all from the various books people had once written.

At first, he was lost as to where to keep this round object since he had no bag or anything of that sort, but after some experimenting with his body, he came to realize the value of his mouth.

He quickly placed the round object that was identical to the size of a human's fist on top of his tongue and left in a hurry.

He had no time to think about any other things or digest any information he received this far.

His top priority right now is to exit this place and enter the wilderness, getting as far away as possible from any human settlements.

Luckily for him, his journey wasn't as difficult as he expected it to be.

To be more precise, he had deduced that it wouldn't be difficult, but he still had his doubts since he didn't know if humans had the same train of thought here.

In short, no guards were situated around the garden, it was merely covered by thick black walls.

The garden itself was placed on a barren land that spanned over a few kilometers in each direction.

When he went through the door, the first thing that entered his eyes were the three towers looming over him; they looked distant in Sam's eyes, given his lack of strong eyesight. Accordingly, he wasn't worried about anyone getting to his place soon enough.

He shortly discovered the barren land around the garden and spotted a thin white wall that was a few meters in length with a gate in the middle.

He ignored all of that and quickly executed his illusion, creating a big enough eagle to cover his body.

His plan was simple, eagles were creatures that most likely existed in this world, and no one would be surprised if they flew on top of a city.

Given his identity as a dragon, he was unable to do the same; therefore, he was planning on flying above his eagle illusion, hiding his form, and getting out of the city in plain sight.

Even if his plan didn't work and eagles didn't exist or were rare animals or anything of that sort.

He was inwardly confident in his plan, just for the sole reason that he felt it was highly unlikely that everyone had a dragon to mount and fly to him.

What about the possibility that humans could fly?

He clearly anticipated such a thing, but even if they did and came to check on him, the worst situation that would occur to him is being imprisoned again.

Overall, no matter the outcome, his life will not be in danger, and that's why he was bold in his actions and a quick thinker.

Given that he just hatched a day ago, he knew that his wings wouldn't support him for long and would probably be able to fly for only a few hours, but he didn't care since a few hours was more than he needed.

The dragon, on top of an eagle perfectly hidden behind its sheer size that spanned over a few meters, swiftly and smoothly left the vicinity of the city.

As he had expected, eagles, even with this size, were a normal occurrence to the people inside of this city, and no one even bothered to look at him.

As he was slowly flying through the gates, he couldn't help but marvel over the sheer size of the city and its huge walls and gates.

He was also surprised to find out that several people were mounting multiple dragons to enter and exit the city, but none of them were seen flying since they had to be inspected at the city's gates before they entered.

Sam also suspected that no one could fly inside the city since he had never witnessed such a scene in the several minutes he spent crossing half of the city's size.

'Dragons as mounts, I first didn't give much attention to that point when I saw the king riding on top of his dragon, but now that I see it to such an extent, it is really stunning.' Sam thought in amusement.

Dragons were once the rulers of the world; nevertheless, he was now witnessing the stronger beasts in the world acting as mere mounts to humans.

Before he shifted his gaze, he wanted to check on something, given his amazing eyesight that enabled him to see almost everything clearly from his distance, which was tens of meters above the ground.

' No elves and dwarves, interesting.' He thought that the city would be full of the three races, but to his surprise, only humans that he was acquainted with lived here.

However, he didn't pay attention to those minor details as he had more pressing matters to attend to.

Swiftly pushed those thoughts to the back of his mind, he concentrated on the forest ahead.

He didn't know whether he was fortunate or cursed, but the forest was only several kilometers away from the city.

He was fortunate because he didn't have to fly for hours and risk-taking down his illusion to rest in an open field or something similar.

And cursed because the forest was so close to the city, and it wouldn't be unexpected that multiple people were venturing inside it.

Regardless of the situation, he didn't have much time to contemplate everything, and the sooner he noticed a massive tree on the outskirts of the forest he promptly proceeded to make his way toward it.

And since the middle of the forest might be dangerous, he chose the edges and rested on top of the gigantic tree he spotted that had a sturdy branch that could comfortably carry his weight and even allowed him to lay down on it.

' Now what?' He thought as he dispelled the eagle illusion, silently laying down on top of the branch, contemplating his next move...
