Chereads / Toymaker : Inheritance (Dropped) / Chapter 6 - The Watch

Chapter 6 - The Watch

A watch is seen on the table. It's shiny exterior was seen reflecting light in all sorts of manners, ranging from shining white, from where all light is reflected, to the darkest black, from where no light can escape from it. It's hands were constantly spinning in all manners, regardless of time, or even space for that matter. Galaxies and stars can be seen in the face. However, despite its beauty, it had a garish flaw - it was missing 9 distinct stars from its face, while the remaining three were dull in color.

Will touched the watch, and kept on turning it, looking from all angles, wondering why was there a watch inside, how is it still working, and most important of all, who made it.

While peering into the watch, it moved. By using forces unknown, it jumped from his hands, and slipped into his left wrist. A sharp sting is felt from the watch, and a drop of blood is absorbed by the watch. The watch shines brightly for a few seconds, blinding Will (and the surrounding neighborhood, i.e. his poor, poor books). What happened after Will opened his eyes shocked him to the core.

The watch appeared to change its shape. From its original, out-of-the-world appearance with the cosmos and galaxies, transformed into a worn out everyday watch. Gone were the stars, the galaxies, and the metallic strap, and in its place were worn out leather straps, iron casing instead of the rainbow metal, and regular hands that were working in tangent to the time here. Most importantly, the stars representing the hour marks disappeared, and what appeared in their place were three worn out sapphires.

While Will looked in awe, a sudden voice shook him back from oblivion "Master, please select a name for me." The female voice spoke monotonously. "Who, who spoke? Where are you? Show yourself."

"I am right here, master."

Will looks in shock at his left hand, and it dawns on him that it's the watch that is talking. He get confused, then awed, but finally to fear. He fears the unknown, like everyone else, especially one that directly interacts with you.

He asks the watch "What are you?"

The watch, in the same monotonous voice, replies simply-

"I am the watch of beginning. I am the watch of the end. I have witnessed many eons, and have participated in many wars. I bear many names, but you can call me the Cosmic Timekeeper, the final Toy of Mr. Toymaker."
