The night sky was a canvas painted black with the endless waves of Humanoid Bats as the battle continued. Their flapping wings echoed ominously, a haunting symphony that accompanied the relentless assault. 'Like a nightmare...' Johan thought, his gaze sweeping over the swarm of incoming enemies. His heart pounded in his chest, but his resolve remained unshaken.
The protagonist and his ghoul were back to back, a united front against the flood of adversaries. His ghoul moved in synchrony with him, its Kagune flashing, dealing with bat after bat. But it was like trying to empty the ocean with a bucket—the bats were ceaseless.
'Can't afford to get swallowed up...' He found himself thinking as the first wave of bats descended upon him. His own Kagune roared to life, meeting the assault with sheer force. He swung, slashed, and parried, his arms beginning to ache from the effort. He could feel the sting of claws grazing him, the force of bodies crashing against his shield of Kagune.
But Johan was not just a soldier—he was a strategist. He could not outlast the enemy, but he could outsmart them. 'Think...think...,' He chided himself. His eyes scanned the battlefield, assessing, calculating. He eyed his Kagune, an idea forming in his mind.
He waited, let the bats draw closer. Then, with a swift upward motion, he detached his Kagune from his back, flinging it into the air. It spun wildly, catching the incoming bats in its whirling storm. Johan had turned his Kagune into a spinning blade of destruction.
'Never thought I'd use it this way,' Johan mused, a hint of satisfaction in his voice. It was working; the bats were thrown into chaos, a fraction of the flood momentarily halted.
But it was just that—a momentary respite. He could already see more bats flocking in. He was back to square one, out of breath, the Kagune retracting back to him. Yet, he wasn't defeated. His determination was his shield, stronger than any Kagune could ever be.
Johan gritted his teeth, readying himself once more. 'Again and again...until the last bat falls.' He promised himself, as he faced the relentless flood of enemies.
Among the battling forms and the desperate cries of the struggling city, Johan's eyes were drawn to a specific figure - it was Miles, backed into a corner, face hidden behind his hands. His brother. 'No, no, no...' Johan's thoughts were an echo of panic.
A massive Humanoid Bat bore down on Miles, its sharp claws aimed at the little form. 'Miles!' Johan's voice was swallowed by the noise of battle, but his actions weren't. His Kagune surged forward, a streak of blistering light in the darkness.
The bat was knocked off its course, screeching as it met Johan's offensive. But there was no time for relief. Johan surged forward, standing protectively before his brother. 'He won't touch you, Miles. Not on my watch.' He swore in his mind.
He fought like a man possessed, his Kagune singing a song of violence. Every strike, every counter-attack, was imbued with a singular purpose – protect Miles. His brother's small, terrified face gave him strength, driving his every action.
Despite his efforts, his eyes were drawn to the inevitable horrors around him. People fell, screams abruptly silenced, bodies cold on the ground. And he could do nothing but watch.
'Why can't I do more? Why can't I save them? So this is the fragility of life?' The questions were a mantra in his mind, gnawing at the edges of his sanity. He was just one man, one card against an army. The realization was bitter, a sharp pang in his chest. He also knew that since he can't save them... There's no use on blaming himself. After all, he was already doing his best.
'But I will fight...,' He promised himself, his desperation fueled him, and he threw himself back into the fray. His Kagune danced around him, a blaze in the night. It was a grim ballet of survival, and Johan was the desperate dancer in its center.
In the whirlwind of the battle, an overwhelming dread claimed Johan. One moment, he was next to Miles, his Kagune slicing through the air and the next moment, a monstrous humanoid bat launched itself at them, its claws aimed straight for his brother.
Time seemed to slow. 'No!' Johan's mind screamed, but his body was too slow, too far. The claws were almost upon Miles when something streaked past Johan. A blur of shadows and lights.
The ghoul.
It moved with a bone-chilling grace, its red and black Kagune unfurling like a lethal flower. The Kagune struck, a swift, ruthless blow that met the Humanoid Bat mid-flight. The monster's screech echoed through the night as it was flung away, far from Miles.
'Incredible...' Johan's thoughts were a silent gasp. The ghoul stood before Miles, its eerie eyes glowing under the moonlight, body bristling with a predatory readiness. It was a silent protector, a deadly barrier between Miles and the monstrous horde.
Turning to face the oncoming threat, the ghoul moved. Each motion was a symphony of strength and agility, a dance of death that was both terrifying and captivating. Its Kagune whipped through the air, an extension of its will, slicing through the invaders with a casual, savage efficiency.
Each strike was methodical, calculated - the swing of the Kagune, the positioning of its body, the predatory leap. It was like watching an apex predator, ruthless, unyielding, and terrifyingly precise. The battleground was its hunting ground, and it was the undeniable king.
Johan could only watch, awe and relief momentarily stealing his breath. His heart pounded in sync with each of the ghoul's strikes, his mind echoing with a single thought, 'He survived... Miles is safe.'
"Brother, you're okay!" Miles took a heavy gasped and his eyes darted to Johan's face with expression of relief. Then he turned to the ghoul that saved his life with a bit of apprehension because of it's scary appearance. "This is???"
"My summoned monster." Johan patted Miles on the back. "Where is Fatty? Why are you here? Well, don't answer. For now, we don't have the time to talk."
