"You didn't have to make her leave because of me. I was fine with her," I spoke as he took a step forward, a frown still evident on his face.
He walked past me, his hands tucked in his pocket before taking a seat on the couch. His hands spread and his legs crossed, settling in like a melting candle
"It's not because of you." He said.
"Oh," i muttered, biting my bottom lips. "I didn't believe you truely had a sister, why isn't she mentioned?" I asked. The new media always wanted to get a glimpse of this family and Jake and always been reported as the only child. Never once did he or anyone in school mention anything about him having a sister.
Where they keeping her a secret ? Why would they?
"It's none of your business." Jake's response came with a mix of anger in it. I turned over to him. Raising a brow, I was confused by his reaction. Moments ago he had a smile on his face talking about his sister even if it was just for a brief moment but now he's acting cold as if angered by it. I had a lot of questions to ask, about the drawing. Does he even know about it? But I couldn't say a thing and just stood watching him as he wiggled his left foot. His eyes were closed shut.
"Do you need an invitation?" He asked, his head tilted backwards.
"What?" Came my response, nothing more than mere whispers, hopefully audible enough for him to hear. For some reason I was getting nervous. My fingers intertwined with each other.
I heard a sigh. A frustrated one. He slowly opened his eyes and pushed himself to sit up straight. "Don't you want to know the reason I called you here?" He hissed. His jaw tightened as he stared directly at me. His hands stretched forward then he patted the empty space beside him, signalling me to come sit next to him.
Hesitant at first, I walked towards him and slowly sat on the couch but keeping a distance between us as the thought of how close we were minutes ago flashed in my mind. This was the second time he had come this close to me. As much as I tried to ignore it, I still couldn't help but feel a knot in my stomach each time he did that. He had an effect on me, I am sure he knew that but I wasn't going to give in so easily, not to him.
"About our deal? The concert is in few days" i spoke avoiding making eye contact as I could feel his intense gaze staring at me.
"Yes, it's all been planned out. All five of us will be going in two days from now."
I snapped, turning my head to get a better view of him and to be sure I had heard his clearly. "What do you mean five? I thought it was just Matilda and I." That was the deal after all.
"That's what I said but then. You will need a place to stay and some other expenses that only I can cover." He said, he's lips settling in a straight line and the frown of his face slowly softened.
"Then who are the other two?"
"Ethan and Owen."
"What!" I yelled. "Why do they have to come?" I raised my brow. I didn't have a problem with Owen coming along, but Ethan? His whole presence pissed me off.
"They are my friends, you don't expect me to be around you two throughout our stay there." He said with a shrug.
I contemplated for a while, rethinking what he had said and to be fair he was right. Which meant he wouldn't be around Matilda and I all through our time at the concert.
"But I thought you hate the concert?" I asked.
"True, " he gave a plain response. "But that's not the only reason I will be going there. I have some other matters to attend to and I figured why not kill two birds with one stone." He smirked leaving me to drown in more confusion. How old are you?" His question came out of the blue and i furrowed my brow.
"Why? Didn't your spy already give you that info." I said, rolling my eyes remembering how he confessed to having someone spy on me to get more information about me. It was somewhat creepy but I had gotten over it until now.
He chuckled, tapping his left hand on his right leg which was still placed over the other and he said . "So you are seventeen."
So he did know, "why ask me if you already know that?" I shook my head, not pleased by his truck games.
"There's nothing wrong with being sure. Anyways, you aren't underage to go to a concert all by yourself. Child." He stressed out the last word, his brow arched with his smirk still visible as he stared at him.
I so badly wanted to punch his perfectly handsome face, hopefully leaving a bruise he would remember but instead I sighed as I hadn't thought of that, having been so excited about the concert so bad that I forgot about the legal process. Even though my birthday was in a few months, I was still below eighteen and fortunately for Matilda, she's already that age.
"Such a shame." Jake teased which further fueled my anger.
I pondered. Lost in thoughts then my eyes widened. "What about Mr Robert. He can act as my guardian." I said excitedly and watched as Jake's smile flattened.
He cleared his throat, placing both legs back on the floor. He said, "Well, that might work but we have to see with Mr Robert first."
"Oh thank you so much." My smile widened and I suddenly leaned forward, Embracing him in a tight hug, my hands tightly wrapped around him.
I paused for a second, my eyes blinked rapidly realising what I was doing and I slowly pulled away. "I am sorry, I got overly excited for a moment." I said, looking away quickly.
"You think?" I heard him whisper. Causing my face to turn pink in embarrassment.
"I will be going now then." I stood up, my eyes scanning the living room, my gaze shifted back to the scattered markers on the floor, I got carried away with excitement, I had completely forgotten about the nut girl I was worried about minutes ago.
"Looking for Owen?" Jakes asked. Noticing my shifted gaze, which was enough to snap me out of my thoughts.
"Uhm…yeah, he brought me here so I was thinking he would be the one to take me back." I lied but now that I was thinking about it, I really did need Owen to get back home as this was an unfamiliar surroundings, a long distance from home.
"He already left."
"Left?" I repeated, already starting to panic until I heard Jake say.
"Mr Robert would be taking you home instead."
I breathe a sigh of relief. "Thank you." I responded. Sincerely grateful but then I realised how much I had been apologising and being thankful to Jake, I remember coming to her furious about giving him a piece of my mind and now I was grateful?
I shook the thought as quickly as it came, he wasn't doing me a favour, he was only doing part of his deal. It was more than what was agreed but still part of it, I reminded myself.
Outside the mansion, Mr Robert helped me in opening the door to the backseat, closing it shut as I helped myself in, until I was comfortable seated. Jake stood in on the other side, beside the car while I stared at him through the window.
"If you weren't in school how did you take the exams? " I finally asked. The question which had been disturbing me for a while. The car engine resonated and slowly started to move.
"Oh that, I wrote it from home." He grinned, his hands still tucked in his pocket as I stared at him blanking with my mouth wide open. Why am I even surprised.
