He rushed to her house and dumped the men at the countryside after hypnotizing them. He then rushed back to the hospital. When he got there Layna was standing outside hugging herself.
"Layna" he called weakly
She turned around and her hair fluttered. Her eyes were back to its original green colour. Liam could swear that his 'heart' skipped a beat.
Tilting her head to the side she asked, "who are you?"
If his heart had skipped a bit previously it sank this time around.
"what .. you..."
"I know you are Liam the stalker vampire and stupid idiot that jumped right into his death.... but who are you really?"
"Layna .."
"We've met before..."
It was more of a statement than a question
"yes" he replied
She gasped, "who was I to you? who were you to me?"
"Layna...." he called out again
"tell me the damn truth!"
"I...we were friends... then you confessed to me and I stupidly rejected you cruelly... I insulted you... I humiliated you till you tried committing suicide... then on your birthday you made a wish to forget me and all the love you had for me"
Layna stared at Liam as bits and pieces of her memories were put together piece by piece. Her head hurt all of a sudden and she fainted. Liam hurried to her side holding her,
"Layna! Layna!" He rushed into the hospital carrying her in his arms.
The next day, Layna woke up to Liam looking at her. She sat up abruptly on the bed.
"you're awake!" Liam exclaimed in delight. Her mum who had gone to get clothes and food walked in with May.
"dear... you're awake... are you feeling well?"
"mum .. I'm fine... how is dad?"
"he's been transferred to another ward"
"mum... you can go look after dad.. I'm fine and May is here"
"oh.. well . alright"
As soon as Mrs Whyte left, May and Layna hissed simultaneously, "what are you doing here?"
Liam looked at both of them and chuckled, "you're cute"
Layna revealed a very bewildered expression. She sighed,
"May please leave us for a moment"
"but Layna..."
"I know you care but I can handle this"
May eyed Liam, "If he tries anything call me..."
"Liam... I don't know what scheme you're cooking up now... but I ain't someone who will grovel at your feet" Layna said the moment May left, her eyes spitting fire. Deep down in her eyes, one could spot deep sorrow.
Liam choked. She had used his words against him.
" Layna.... I'm so sorry for all I did... I realized I love you "
" so? " she arched her brows " don't you realize I'm like any of those girls? I'm just so-so..... what part of me do you think you love? " she sneered
" Layna.... "
" enough of the pity act... who knows if this is a plot it yours to humiliate me again. Wasn't that your modus operandi? Take her to the clouds and hit her down hard? "
Liam looked at Layna watching him with cold emotionless eyes and realized he couldn't take the indifference. He was really sorry but was there a medicine for regret?
" Why are you crying? Isn't this all what you said to me? Does it hurt? I know you're not obligated to reciprocate my feelings but you've gone beyond rejecting me.. you taunted me... I was haunted by your words till I couldn't sleep... I kept wondering, 'am I the problem?' 'am I so unlovable? ' 'am I really worth nothing? '. I drank Liam.... now I have gastroenteritis. " No Layna.... " Liam choked on his tears
