Chapter 172 - Chapter 170: Network

"I missed a good fight."

"That was the best time to end it all."

"You know I would have preferred him to regain his full strength."

Currently, Nobu was talking with Satoru. Displeasure was written all over the latter's face as he "missed" a huge fight as well as fully settled Sukuna who could've been his good rival.

Even if he knew that he could die, Satoru would not mind letting Sukuna regain his full strength. That was the selfish side of him that was conflicted by his official responsibilities.

After all, he prefers to die in a battle than in old age.

Fortunately, Nobu knew that there were far more enemies that would make Satoru feel challenged. As such, after 'separating' the fingers from Itadori, they were permanently disposed of on Gluttony's stomach.

From here, the King of Curses are no more.

"The sorcerer system's huge flaw… How was your progress, Satoru-san."

"The references and the prior studies you brought helped."

With a smile on his face, he told Nobu of his progress.

"Sorcerers could not improve once their cursed techniques are awakened. I admit it was far less versatile than you magicians."

What Satoru left unsaid was the fact that a sorcerer's cursed techniques usually have a higher potential if and only if several aspects could be improved as a sorcerer—namely, their cursed energy capacity as well as body improvements. Some of them are simply "hacks" that could match grand magicka.

It was seen in Nobu's [Quantum State Manipulation] where he could control Hilbert Spaces right from the moment he awakened his cursed technique.

Their only flaw was their strength, or rather, "base stats" being fixed from the start. The amount of cursed energy that they possess would not change. As such, the only fields that sorcerers could work on are improving their control of the cursed energy as well as the utilization of their cursed techniques.

This issue of "base stats" was the matter worked on by Satoru.

"Your [Mana Furnace] is a genius' work. It's too bad that nothing of sorts appeared on our side."

"There would be one now, wouldn't it?"

As if knowing his progress, Nobu simply looked at Satoru.

"Well, well. Was this the power of a god?"

"Kind of."

Perhaps due to Satoru's mindset, Nobu didn't have much trouble communicating with him. Sorcerers are inherently different when it comes to "mentality". What others deem as inhuman, they could treat it as something normal.

In a sense, they were just as 'insane' as the oldest magicians in the world. That was the aspect they could compete with.

"It'll be finished soon. If it works, it would rewrite the entire jujutsu world completely."

"I'll be wishing you good luck."

*****

"I thought you'd rejoice when the announcement of class suspension was made."

"Ugh… it's not like that, really! After all, if there's no classes… I will just rot in my room."

Though the world might have changed, everything remained operational. It was completely unlike the other iterations where the world was hit hard by a calamity's surprise attack.

Unbeknownst to humanity, six calamities were dealt simultaneously.

Nevertheless, peace still remained. The only thing left was the "transition" period that began the moment the announcement regarding supernatural organizations were made.

"So that's why you got here first thing in the morning?"

"Not just that. Uhm… look at this, Nobu-kun."

A black energy with a blue outline covered her fingertip.

"Was this that… cursed energy or something?"

Looking at Hitori (Bocchi) and her vast reserves of cursed energy, I don't know whether I should laugh or not. I knew about her experience from the parallel world that I visited in the past, yet seeing Bocchi with cursed energy would not make him feel surprised.

Just the amount of negativity she generates in a day might even startle Sukuna.

Jokes aside, I am aware of her cursed technique, which is the same as Gakuganji-san's.

"Try playing with your guitar. See if you'll feel something else."

"Alright…"

After the usual tuning, Hitori began playing on her Gibson. Nothing felt different at first, but as she played further, she could feel 'something' on her fingertips.

Buzz-!

It didn't take long before a special soundwave was sent out. I am certain that the other people who heard this would find their mind becoming clearer.

This was the true essence of her cursed techniques. Bocchi-chan could create special frequencies with her cursed energy that would buff her allies, all the while having the ability to harm others with harmful frequencies.

It was far more 'broader' than Gakuganji-san's cursed technique that could only harm his opponents. Bocchi-chan's ability should've been more of a "sound control" than anything else.

After completing a song, I could see her 'shocked look'.

"This… this…"

"Performing in Tokyo Dome doesn't seem as intimidating as before, doesn't it?"

*****

While Nobu and Hitori did their own thing on a certain corner of Starry, several pairs of eyes looked in their direction every now and then.

"They're totally more than childhood friends."

"Agreed."

"It's very obvious, isn't it?"

Seika, Nijika's sister, looked at Kikuri and PA-san gossip along with Kita. The former has the usual smell of booze on her while the latter acted similarly to a "high-schooler".

"Huh… Come to think of it, Seika." Kikuri remembered something. "Didn't Nijika-chan meet with Nobu-kun's brother?"

"...Why?"

"It's nothing." She flashed her usual drunkard smile. "Ah, the peak of youth. Let them enjoy it."

The first one to catch on things was Kita.

"W-w-wait! So, does this mean—"

"It doesn't mean anything. Let's not jump to conclusions too early."

Seika could only heave a sigh as she watched a highschooler and two "joshi kousei" wannabes gossip.

*****

Contrary to expectations, I chose to go along with his daily life. Since both Bocchi-chan and Mashiro didn't have any classes, it was more of leisure than anything else. Though, I am still looking forward to something else.

"Hah… It took some time."

Numerous stars glittered around the night sky. A lone star shone brightly among the rest.

Upon looking at it, a sense of connection was formed.

"Sirius."

Slowly, a phantom of the star enlarged within my sight. It didn't take long before I was enveloped by it, something that I fully accepted.

The next moment, my sight shifted to a blank space.

"As many as the stars in the sky… As long as they remain, one's legend lives forever."

This was the greatest measure I thought upon reaching this level. Now, all the "twelve main constellations" in various worlds became my resurrection point. It is extremely discreet, to the point that nobody should be able to notice my tampering.

To test the effectiveness of the miracle that I did, I established a connection to one such world.

In an instant, my vision changed to that of a star's perspective. I could immediately feel the difference of this world to mine.

"The world barrier was acting like usual. The Twilight Syndrome shouldn't be able to leave my world."

After all, this was merely a transfer in consciousness. It wasn't similar to the full-blown world travel that we usually do.

Simply put, I created a network of all twelve major constellations in all worlds. They are connected to each other, hence I could use all of them as an anchor when the worst happens.

"Connection… checked. Manifestation… Mn, it's fluctuating…"

While checking the limitations of my current state, I recreated my entire body out of nothing. Countless stars dotted it, making my projection seem a bit more mysterious.

"This world…"

Just as I was 'intercepting' bits of information from this world, I immediately sensed a peering gaze.

It was far away from my current position, yet I felt the gaze of a higher-being. It is right to presume that it is one of the higher-beings that rule… or at least influence this world.

"...I see..!"

In an instant, I managed to intercept everything related to it. Despite not being able to unleash my full strength, my omniscience could work in all worlds. It was as if I managed to gain the position of an author… or a reader in this case.

"An interesting world…"

For the first time, I saw something like this. The world where I went was something linked by a conceptual tree. That tree links this world to other worlds.

In a sense, it is a 'world system' that I have never seen before.

Through that, I was also able to find several things about this world, mainly the current 'supernatural system' used by its denizens.

Apparently, they follow a so-called "Path" previously walked upon by beings known as "Aeons". These Aeons are the "strongest" of each path, and in turn, the gods of this world.

The one who peeked a gaze on me was the Aeon known as "IX". What I didn't expect, however, was its inactivity.

"I don't seek conquest, only the truth. That, and adventure."

I tried to come clean to this Aeon. For now, I am absolutely certain that only they were able to sense my presence.

As to why…

'You symbolize the [End], yet you don't proactively cause it…'

It was extremely similar to the Twilight Syndrome of my world. However, IX was far different from it in a sense that it doesn't proactively cause destruction, unlike ours.

That 'small' connection was the reason why both of us managed to sense each other's existence.

I was waiting for its response when a 'thought' entered my mind.

'Akivili..?'

The Aeon, IX, sent me a message along the lines of 'Just like Akivili'.

It didn't take long before I understood their message.

'The Trailblazing Aeon… one centered around adventure and travels…'

The more I knew about this world, the more interested I became. I hadn't expected to be able to travel through worlds despite the "barrier" that I placed. The power of a [World Magister] surpasses every common sense that my former self has.

Just before IX itself severed our connection, he passed onto a "thread" into my hands. Unsurprisingly, it was the thread of "fate", or rather, a connection that leads to a certain entity.

I was able to understand everything just like before.

"A fate of a person… no, an entire world."

Grasping the pale white thread in my hand, I 'saw' a future scene.

An entire civilization was destroyed. Broken buildings and blood red skies could be seen on the landscape. The smell of blood was the most prominent in this land.

Just like our previous struggle with the Twilight Syndrome, a certain civilization struggled against 'something'... which is extremely similar to the Twilight Syndrome in nature.

With that, my prior hypotheses were verified. There really are varying kinds of "ends" in various worlds.

Nevertheless, the [End] of that civilization wasn't as strong as the Twilight Syndrome. If my world faced it, we would undoubtedly come out on top. My world is simply that special.

"A fated person… did they really entrust the fate of a civilization to a foreign god?"

For once, I couldn't believe what had happened. Yes, my omniscience pointed out that "IX" did it to "pass something troublesome", yet I still couldn't believe that the gods of another world would act like this.

Still…

"My mind could do several things at once. If so…"

It was not a 'clone' per se, but the omnipotence I gained from the Philosopher's Stone. I could appear in several places all at the same time. It was something that far surpasses a clone.

It was something that couldn't be properly explained in words. It is similar to looking at two screens at once—with the ability of being able to process what's happening in those two screens.

Of course, I could retract this state at any time. I could already feel that I might become more and more like a machine if it was used for a long period of time.

That was the risk that accompanied my current strength. If I am not careful, I would become a 'machine' that fulfills the role of my 'concept' (i.e., revelation).

If it does happen, I might become a machine-like entity who would spit out revelations one after another. It was similar to Alaya and Gaia who only acted upon their 'concepts' (i.e., wills of humanity/earth).

That was not something I'd like to happen.

For now…

"A small visit, it is."
