Nelly caught up to Ria before she got into the cab. "Ria wait."
"No, I'm going home."
"I know, I'm coming with you," she said, getting into the cab next to her. "I'm so sorry about tonight. Robbie and I were only trying to get you two back together again. I didn't know Ryan was going to be a jerk."
She stared straight ahead, too stunned for tears. "You should have seen the way he looked at me, with so much hate in his eyes and the things he said. He told me he has been with a different woman every night since we broke up, but I don't believe it." She turned her head and looked at Nelly. "He wanted me to go outside so he could f**k me. That's what he said the first time we met, but this time he said it with such cruelty. How could he treat me that way after all we've been through?"
"I'm sure he didn't mean it, he was probably hurting and was just lashing out."
Back at Nelly's place, they sat down with a drink when there was a knock at the door. Ria's heart started racing, she wondered if it was Ryan coming to apologize, but it was Robbie.
He sat down across from the women, taking the drink that was handed to him. "Ria, I'm sorry about tonight and for the way my brother behaved. I know he can be a bit crude and I was shocked at how he treated you. I've never seen him like that before I believe he regrets it and probably cursing himself right now".
"Maybe. I know I hurt him, and that was the last thing I ever wanted so I've made a decision."
"What kind of decision?" Nelly asked, suddenly feeling scared.
"Staying in the same city as Ryan is too painful for both of us so I'm leaving."
"Leaving, what does that mean?" Both Nelly and Robbie said at the same time.
"There's a job in Paris I applied for and it's mine if I want it. I can't stay here and risk running into Ryan. It's better if I leave and we can both move on and get over each other."
"Nelly jumped to her feet. "You can't leave, it would be a huge mistake. How is it possible for you to have gotten a reply when I never mailed the resume." Her mouth closed when she realized she had told Ria about the resumes.
"Nelly, how could you?"
"I did it for you. You and Ryan belong together and if you got another job and moved away you'd never get back with him. You love him and don't deny it."
"I'm so disappointed in you Nelly, I trusted you to mail them for me. I'm going to call Paris tomorrow and tell them I'll take the job. I'm going to bed and please, I don't want to talk about Ryan again."
She waited until Nelly left for work the next day before getting out of bed. She was still furious with her for not mailing the resumes and applications for the apartments. Deep down she knew her friend was only trying to help but still, it was wrong of her. Opening her laptop she sends a message that she will take the job and can be there in two weeks time. ****************************
Robbie walks into Ryan's office, marches right over to the desk, resting his hands on top of it. "How could you do what you did to Ria?"
"That was two days ago, let it go."
"You stupid jackass. Growing up I had always wanted to be just like you. Wealthy, successful and great with the ladies but not anymore. You may get all the p**sy you want but you'll grow old all alone, no woman to love you, no children to pass on your name."
"I don't need children and I sure as fuck don't need a woman's love. Robbie, love hurts, it can destroy you. We're all better off without it.
