"Good, thank you," she said, thinking Nelly was acting strangely. "Would you ask Robbie to bring me my things from my office, my personal things. I can't risk running into Ryan and seeing the hurt in his eyes."
"I don't think you have to worry about that."
"Why would you say that?"
Nelly knew she had said too much but figured she ought to tell Ria what she knew. "Robbie says that Ryan is no longer hurt, he is angry. He says he never wants to see you again and that he is going to start dating again. I'm sorry Ria."
"Why be sorry? I didn't expect Ryan to become a monk, I knew he would start seeing other women. He's not the type to be without female company for long." Even though she spoke those words without any emotion she was dying inside thinking of him making love to another woman.
"I'll have Robbie bring your things over tomorrow. Let's open some wine and watch a scary movie, that will take your mind off Ryan."
Wine, popcorn and a scary movie they sat close together with a blanket over them, screaming at every scary thing that popped up, spilling popcorn everywhere when they jumped.
They would look at each other and laugh, it was like when they first met and watched scary movies together, the way they would jump at every sound they heard.
"This is when we need a man around, to hold us when we get scared," she said, looking at Ria and seeing her smile disappear. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that. I wanted to make you forget about Ryan, not think about him."
"It's alright, really." The truth was Nelly was right. Whenever she and Ryan had watched these types of movies he would hold her in his arms, telling her he would always protect her and then carry her to the bedroom, making her forget all about the blood and gory stuff she saw on the screen. "It's late, I think I'll go to bed now. Thanks for cheering me up, this was fun, night Nelly."
"Night Ria.
Not wanting to go back to an empty apartment Ryan decided to stay at the office and do some work, opening his case he took out his laptop. The only light on was the one on his desk. There was a knock at the door and Robbie walked in.
"Damn man, turn some lights on will you?"
Ryan lifted his eyes up as he sat down. "Why haven't you left?"
"I could ask you the same thing."
"Getting some work done, what's your excuse?"
"I figured you'd still be here like you have been for the last couple of weeks. It's Friday, let's go to the bar and maybe we can pick up some chicks."
"I've got too much work to do now that I don't have a Personal Assistant."
"Wasn't it you that said you wanted to move on? It's been two weeks since you and Ria broke up. This new bar I want to go to is where all the hot chicks hang out and maybe you'll get lucky."
"I thought you were seeing that Nelly woman, how will she feel about you going out to pick up women?"
"Actually, she's going to be there. I just thought it would be good for you to start getting out and have some fun."
"She's Ria's friend and they're living together.
Do you really think she is going to want to watch me pick up a woman and not hate me for it? She'll go back and tell her, I don't need that kind of drama right now."
"Oh Ryan, I hate to tell you this man, but Ria has already moved on."
He slammed the lid to his laptop down and looked at Robbie. "What are you talking about?" He felt the blood in his veins boiling over with jealousy.
