Chereads / When I am a God of the Underworld / Chapter 12 - Chapter-12

Chapter 12 - Chapter-12

It's the third week after the announcement. The wedding is today. The whole city was decorated with beautiful lights and colorful decorations.

People were dancing happily to the music and there was a huge celebration all around the royal city. Even the weather seems better. It's warm and sunny today.

The whole place looks cheerful and lively. Countless people were standing in line to enter the cathedral of the church. Each step forward was full of joy and anticipation.

It feels so good to finally be able to attend such an event. The people are so excited about the wedding.

Meanwhile, Cyril is pacing back and forth in his room. He is nervous about the wedding. Cyril is wearing a neat wool cotehardie.

He put some gold jewelry on himself and the crown which is a royal insignia on the top of his head.

Then he opened the door and stepped outside with his guards to wait for the ceremony. The whole city is so packed that the cathedral is almost overcrowded.

As everyone was waiting for the ceremony to start, they cheered loudly as they looked up at the sky with the clouds. It's a breathtaking sight indeed.

As the choir starts playing, a procession begins entering the cathedral. Everyone's attention shifted to the center of the Cathedral where King Zander was walking slowly with Princess Amandine toward Cyril who was standing at the altar.

Every person was cheering for them. It seemed that the entire city was supporting them.

Cyril's heart started beating faster as the princess approached closer. She is as beautiful as ever.

She's wearing a white gown with a red veil covering her face. She held the hand of King Zander.

The procession stops in front of Cyril. They both kneeled on the floor and bowed. Everyone started clapping and whistling loudly. The priestess, the archbishop, the bishops, the clergymen and everyone else was applauding.

When they finished clapping, all of them stood straight. Duke Ruben and Lady Britt seem like the happiest people in the world. Eline is also cheering loudly.

Cyril and Amandine bowed once more before getting up. The weird thing was that Duke Namen was nowhere to be found.

Before the Bishop started speaking, someone came running towards them. It was a royal guard, who was panting heavily and looking as pale as a sheet.

He bowed and said,

"Your Highness! Army of Alis Empire is invading our lands now."

King Zander immediately frowned and looked at Cyril who was frowning too. Cyril knew this was coming. The star warned him. It seems like the army already reached the borders and was preparing its attacks during the wedding ceremony so that they could defeat them easily.

All of a sudden, everyone was frozen in place. The whole room became silent and everyone started trembling.

Everyone is terrified and shocked by what they heard. The entire kingdom was in fear. Nobody knows what to do.

The army of the Alis Empire has always been known to be ruthless. Now they were invading their country to try and take over it for themselves.

"We must fight now," Cyril said pulling out his sword.

Princess Amandine pulled his arm when he was about to leave. She looked at him with pleading eyes.

"Cyril, we're about to get married...Please don't go."

A tear rolled down her cheek.

"I'm sorry, my love. I promise I will be back."

Cyril wiped away the tear and kissed her on her forehead. Cyril then ordered the servants to prepare the weapons for the soldiers.

Then he quickly left the room with his three most trusted generals following right behind him. They walked through the halls until they reached the courtyard.

The soldiers were already lined up at the gates of the castle. After taking a deep breath, Cyril raised his voice and commanded the soldiers to march.

They marched toward their enemies. As soon as they crossed the river, the enemy army attacked at the same time.

There were millions of soldiers in the army of the Alis empire. They have thousands of cannons, swords, axes, and spears.

"Halt!" Cyril ordered the soldiers to stop.

Then he looked in the distance and asked one of his generals,

"Which direction do you say they are coming from?"

"They are heading from the east, Your Highness," replied the general.

"Let's go north to intercept their advance."

Cyril led the knights to attack the enemy soldiers. A lot of arrows and spears are flying in the air like fireflies. Countless bodies of soldiers fell from the horse and fell on the ground, dead.

Cyril took out his sword from his side bag, unsheathed it, and sliced open hundreds of heads from the necks. He continued slaughtering until there wasn't one single soldier alive.

A few soldiers went to find Cyril to help him while Cyril continued fighting the remaining enemies. He killed them all until the only ones left were two women on horses.

Their clothes are torn and they have blood on their faces, hands, and weapons. They're obviously part of the Alis army.

"You two surrender or I'll kill both of you right now. Don't test me," said Cyril with his cold gaze.

His voice was filled with killing intent. Both of them kept looking at each other for quite a while then a large amount of smoke came in. The smoke started circling Cyril and he realized it was their spell.

He took his cloak and used it as a shield. He took out his knife to defend himself, the smoke disappeared after a few moments. But as soon as he looked around, both the women had disappeared. Seems like the enemies retreated.

Cyril knew that the war was coming since that night when the stars warned him. He forgot about it because of his wedding.

The enemy seems to know about the wedding and must have been preparing to fight on this day. But the enemy wasn't strong enough to win against Cyril's strength.

"Damnit it! Today was supposed to be my wedding day but ended up killing people" Cyril thought, disappointed with himself.

"I can't afford another mistake," said Cyril sternly.

The battle was fierce. Cyril decided to go back to the castle and get ready for the upcoming war.

To be continued...
