Chapter 3 - Chapter 2: Overdrive

Virgil, dressed up and ready for the exam, went over to an old park that his friend group classified as their meeting point. He waited for about ten minutes before he saw Tyrone entering the park followed by Rodney and Peter. The four boys complimented each other's hero costumes as it heavily complimented their styles of fighting.

But the pleasantries between the boys was interrupted when they all got notifications on their phones at the same time giving them the venue of the Exam.

"Note: All participants of the school selection exam must be present at the Hero Headquarters near the Blood bank at Guma by 10:00am"

"Guma is at least 6 kilometres away from here" Rodney estimated

"And it's 9:45am..." Virgil continued

"Let's roll boys!!" Virgil shouted out as he activated his God sigma to boost his speed while running. The other three boys followed suit as they knew that they would have to run at their max strengths if they wanted to get to the venue in time.

[A God sigma refers to the special ability that every Half-Blood possesses. These God sigmas can range from something extremely useless as "Slow walker" to something that can even break the laws of reality such as "No gravity". Virgil's God sigma is "Overall" which gives him the ability to increase energy outputs either at focused points in his body or throughout his entire body]

[Tyrone who was also a half blood possessed the God sigma known as "Fission et Fusion" which allowed him to create energy blasts and shoot them from different parts of his body and absorb energy from living things or his surroundings to create even stronger energy blasts]

Virgil ran through the city at incredible speeds shocking Rodney and Peter as they witnessed the Great increase in the proficiency of his power. Tyrone however discovered a way to travel by shooting energy blasts out of his feet and flying through the sky like a rocket missile. Rodney, who was a normal human being gifted with the talent of inventing things, created a mecahnical suit that could move at one-fiftieth the speed of sound which gave him enough confidence to sit down and watch the three boys run across town as streaks of light as he could reach the destination in less than 6 minutes.

"Virgil really has improved" he said with a smile on his face.

Back to Virgil, he started to realize that his speed was decreasing due to his lack of decent stamina.

"Damn it! I need to break my limits!! [coughs blood]". Tyrone saw the speed decrease in Virgil and flew lower to check up on him but he refused his help and instead used his rage to run even faster.

The two boys reached the venue right on time where they saw Rodney and Peter standing at the gate conversing.

"These two cheaters!" Virgil said with comical anger in his tone as Tyrone held him back.

"Oh hey slowpokes!" Rodney shouted out to them as he and Peter laughed. This time around Virgil was the one to be Tyrone from giving the two dirty knocks, with this, they all shared a laugh and they entered the building.

The four boys were marveled at what they were looking at, a huge dome the size of about five football stadiums with a track set on the park with a multitude of different obstacles ranging from normal brick walls of abnormal height, to Sharp spikes set under the other obstacles. The four boys quickly regained composure and moved to their respective sites.

"There are so many people taking the test for Mfantsipim" Tyrone said.

"It just means there will be more extras to step on"Virgil replied. Tyrone scolded Virgil's cocky nature as a large screen came down from the ceiling of the dome with a robotic female voice saying

"All participants taking the Mfantsipim School exam should move to sector V, Adisamia College to Sector A, Wesleyan Girls to sector C and Saint Winston's college of discipline to sector E."

The participants complied with what the voice said and moved over to their respective sectors.

"Close the doors" An ominous voice said from a room as the gates to the Headquarters closed, eliminating all participants who came after 10:00pm.

"I thought it was just a farce to make participants come early?" Tyrone asked.

"Makes it easier for us I guess" Virgil replied with no emotion present in his voice.

"It makes sense, you're required as a good Hero to be able to report to duty at any given time or else the consequences may be dire" A feminine voice said from behind the two boys.

"Sorry to invade in your conversation, I'm Veronica, a Bloodling residing here in Goma"

The two boys stared blankly at the girl as Virgil broke the silence.

"...I'm Sorry but... who asked?".

The faces of the trio present there became uncanny as Tyrone broke out in laughter.

"We're sorry for that, I'm Tyrone, he's Virgil, great to meet you" He said whilst extending his hand for a greeting. Veronica reciprocated the greeting whilst sternly looking at Virgil.

"Mfantsipim School Participants!" The female robotic voice said from a speaker in the ceiling of the sector alerting the participants present.

"The total number of participants in this sector is 1245 but only 200 will be accepted into Mfantsipim, with that being said, this year's exam will be an obstacle race, try your best to reach the end of the course without being harmed..."

"Ha! That's it? this thing's gonna be a breeze" One of the contestants shouted.

"...Oh Sorry and also, there will be C-rank monsters chasing you and once you're caught by them, you will also be eliminated"

Quickly, The wall behind them turned transparent showing the monsters behind them urging to be set loose.

"And with no time to waste... let the exam begin"

The trio of Virgil, Tyrone and Veronica looked at the monsters with fear written all over their faces but something sparked in Virgil's heart as he felt the emotion, it was excitement...

"Time to go overdrive!" He said with a psychotic smirk on his face
