Chapter 25 - The Goddess of Love and Carnal Desire

Once Lunaire left the room, Lillith stirred in her sleep, muttering, "Huh, where'd the fluffy bunny go? Come back." She reached out and hugged Lunaire's pillow, mumbling affectionately, "Hehe, there you are, you smell ni..." Lillith's words were interrupted by her gentle snores as she drifted into a peaceful slumber, completely oblivious to the passing time.

Meanwhile, Lunaire had entered her office, closing the door behind her with a sigh. She was about to engage in one of the most challenging tasks she faced on a monthly basis. Lunaire took a deep breath and walked over to a bookshelf, retrieving an ornate, extravagant pair of scissors. She began slicing through the air, and as she did, the scissors started to warp, creating a bright, shimmering crack.

Lunaire muttered about her scissors being dull and how they used to open these portals more quickly. "I need to sharpen these," she thought. She inserted one of the blades into the crack and pulled it down, creating a portal. "sigh Time to visit my family."

She was looking forward to seeing them, but she couldn't shake the feeling that they would tease her for her "mistake." Lunaire was the youngest in the family, and she knew that if she made a blunder, she would never hear the end of it. She was still being teased for her first words, which were, "I went potty on myself," followed by tears, and that incident had happened over 800 years ago.

Lunaire sighed and walked through the portal. On the other side, she found herself in a vast garden. In the garden, the air was filled with the fragrance of blooming flowers, and a gentle breeze rustled the leaves of ancient trees. Lunaire's family estate was a magnificent place, boasting lush greenery and a sense of tranquility that always put her at ease. She strolled through the garden paths, her footsteps accompanied by the soothing sounds of nature.

Soon, she reached the heart of the garden, where an elegant gazebo stood, its white columns adorned with vibrant ivy. This was where her family often gathered for various occasions, from simple afternoon teas to grand celebrations. Lunaire spotted her family's "elders" sitting there, all engrossed in lively conversations. They were elders in name only; the only reason they gained that title was because they were the oldest among all the gods and goddesses, and most of them were either parents, aunts, or uncles to the younger deities. As Lunaire approached them, she overheard their conversation.

"So on her first time on the job, she cursed a newly created soul with bad luck and misfortune?" The question elicited bursts of laughter from the group. "Really, that...that actually sounds like a mistake she'd make."

Lunaire couldn't help but be upset by their mocking. She began to pout and finally yelled at them, "Hey! It's not funny; it was my first time, and it was the only mistake I made. Besides, you're all ancient; you shouldn't be making fun of the younger generation. Shouldn't you be in the ground somewhere, you old farts!" Lunaire then stormed away from the gazebo, leaving the laughter of the group behind her.

After a minute of walking, she found a group of young adults and approached them. "Zephyros, where's my sister?" Upon hearing his name being called, a man with sunkissed skin, green eyes, and blue hair turned to face Lunaire. "Which one?"

Lunaire gave him an annoyed, knowing look, causing him to become flustered. "Oh...under her velvet passion tree." Lunaire smiled at Zephyros before walking away. "Good, thank you, and I'll keep your crush a secret from her."

After walking for about three minutes, Lunaire entered a field full of hills and fruit trees.

The field was bathed in the soft, warm glow of the sun. Fruit trees, heavy with their ripe offerings, stretched as far as the eye could see. Each tree bore a different type of fruit, from plump, juicy peaches to crisp, golden apples. This orchard was Lunaire's favorite part of her family estate.

As she walked through the rows of fruit trees, she spotted her sister, Elara, sitting on a hill beneath her beloved velvet passion tree. The tree's vibrant crimson blooms and the smoky violet pomegranates that dangled from its branches created a mesmerizing contrast. Elara was engrossed in a peaceful nap, her deep auburn hair cascading around her like a vibrant waterfall as she slumbered.

Elara was the oldest of all of Lunaire's siblings and the second generation of gods and goddesses. She was the first child of the first gods to fall in love with each other, which caused her domain and title to be the Goddess of Love and Carnal Desire. Her birth caused a chain reaction that led other gods and goddesses to fall in love and have children.

Funnily enough, she can't seem to find true love herself despite helping so many others find it. This lack of love sent her into a workaholic mode for so long that she developed narcolepsy from her lack of sleep until her second sister was five (about 250 years old), and she begged her to stop working and play. That interaction sparked a change in her, causing her to put her job on "auto-pilot" so she could dote on her sister.

Once she finally slowed down her narcolepsy that she was keeping at bay hit her like a truck. She was off and on until the target of her affection was 10 (about 500 years old), and once she could loosly control her narcolepsy again, she spent as much time as she could with her sister until she turned 20. Now she just lazes around all day, a stark contrast to her personality when working.

Lunaire walked toward her with a gentle smile. Once Lunaire reached her sister, she leaned down to whisper in her sister's ear to wake her up, only to be startled by a sudden voice. "Hello, Lunaire. You stepped on a leaf on your way up here." Lunaire giggled and looked down at the previously sleeping Elara, who had one of her amber eyes open and was staring at her. "Oh, sorry, eldest sister." Elara grimaced. "'Eldest sister'? You want something, don't you? You never call me that unless that's the reason, so spit it out."

Lunaire sighed and sat down next to her sister. "So, how can I tell if someone is in love with me and if they're not, is there a way to make them?" Elara's eyes shot open as she sat up, snapped her head to the side, and grabbed Lunaire's shoulders. "Y-Y-You fell in love?" Lunaire, shocked by Elara's reaction, was a little stunned, blushed lightly, and gave a shy nod. "EEEK!!! My lovely, cute, shy baby sister fell in love! Who's the lucky guy? What's he the god of? I want all the details."

Lunaire had never seen her sister like this and was stunned. Truth be told, Elara had stopped looking for love a long time ago and started to find entertainment in other people's love lives, similar to how people like reality TV and soap operas for drama. Lunaire, seeing her sister's bright eyes that almost made the bags under them disappear, couldn't help but giggle. " Uhm...She's not a goddess..."

Elara's eyes lit up even more, causing Lunaire to internally worry. "She's probably thinking, 'Oh my me, she fell in love with a mortal. That's crazy. Is this one of those forbidden love stories I've read so much about?' Yeah, that seems like her." Lunaire was startled by Elara's voice. "That was exactly what I was thinking. Also, I support you and your forbidden love."

Lunaire only stared back at Elara's blank stare. "Oh...I said that out loud!?!" Elara just smiled at her sister before yawning. "Now give me all the details." Lunaire sighed and explained from the beginning, from her mistake while creating Lillith's soul till now.
