Chapter 5 - My sister has changed

(Manabu's PoV)

As the Student Council President, I have many tasks and privileges. And one of them is getting the list of every student and their exam scores, even the entrance exams.

When I found that Suzune has been admitted to the school, with 3rd position in the entrance exam, meaning the whole country, I wasn't much surprised. She has always been good in academics.

Though, if she knew that she didn't place 1st like me, she might get more annoyed instead of being happy about the result of her hardwork.

She was placed in class D, meaning that she still hasn't changed in the two years I haven't met her.

That's what I thought. But, the reality is totally beyond my speculations.

"Go and make tea for me. We are going to have a long discussion."

Suzune has been ordering me around since she has arrived in this school. And she seems quite displeased with me.

Maybe 'displeased' is a weak word, since she said that she wanted to break off all connection with me.

I did as she ordered, and started making tea, while she started talking.

"You know, in the two years I was living alone, I realized something."

"And what might that be?"

"That you are the shittiest older brother that I know of. I honestly can't believe that my worldview was so small that I ended up thinking that you are a role model I should follow.

Well, our corporate slave parents did kept reminding me that I need to be like you."

"I-"

"Just shut up. Don't talk unless I tell you to. And don't make a regular green tea. Watch YouTube, learn how to make a Chai, and make it."

...Why is she making me do this?

"The internet is a wonderful thing. I got to know many things that I didn't know, many people that I didn't know.

And you know what I found? That all younger siblings copy their older siblings. They fight all the time, but, not like us. Where there is only one person who fights.

That is called abusive behaviour. And, that's not normal.

If you ever even think of doing it again, I am going to report you to the police."

Wha-

"Don't interrupt me by trying to think. Just focus on making Chai."

How to make Chai tea-

"And don't tell me you searched Chai tea?"

"No-"

"Don't interrupt me."

"..."

"So, here's the thing.

I don't want us to be even acquaintances anymore.

Just buy me three phones in your name, gym membership, promise to transfer all the points you and your friends-

Ah. You probably don't have any friends.

Alright.

Buy me three phones in your name, and transfer the ownership to me before you graduate, and have all your classmates and acquaintances in your year transfer their points to me before they graduate, since it will be useless to them.

And as compensation for making my life hell for all these years, you will transfer 50% of all your monthly points to the spare phones. And buy me a three year gym membership.

And ah. All your notes and test papers from both first and second year, and third year too when you are about to graduate.

This will dissipate all the hatred I have for you, and we will go to our separate ways, without revenge weighing me down."

...Just how did things turn out like this...?

"What is the revenge-"

"Ruining not just your school, but whole life. I seriously want to do that, but just for the fact that we share the same sperm and egg donors, I am willing to settle for the less extreme measure.

That will benefit me and let me have peace of mind.

So, I want all this done by tomorrow. Prepare contract and everything. Including the three phones. Oh, tea is ready? You can go back now. I will pour it for myself on my own

But not before stopping the recording- no. Keep it, and play it everyday. I hope you suffer for the rest of your life.

Afterall, those who don't know pain will never know true peace."

I wasn't recording anything...

"Suzune, what happened in these two years?"

"I woke up. And instead of choosing violence, I am choosing peace. And I can never have peace with you around.

Isn't it better for you too, since you hate me too? Just live with half the money you get every month for this year, and you don't have to put up with me for the rest of your live. Afterall, you hate me, right?"

"I don't hate you-!"

Suzune eyes told me that she didn't believe me one bit. As if she had given up on me.

They didn't contain hate. Just, plain, cold, indifference.

"No. Please give me the chance to prove-"

"There is nothing left to prove. Please see yourself out and prepare everything by tomorrow. Horikita-san."

How do I tell-

No. It's my fault. It's the fault of my behaviour that she turned out this way.

Saying anything right now is useless.

I must prove with my actions that I don't hate her.

That I don't want to severe our relationship, despite my past actions saying otherwise.

It's my fault that I kept pushing her away.

I-I have to fix all this!

"Alright. I will prepare everything by tomorrow. But please-"

"Must I open the door for you? Are you THAT incapable?"

"...I will come tomorrow, Suzune."

"That's Horikita-san for you."

Pouring tea in a cup for her, I left her room.

She didn't even glance at me as I left.

My sister... has changed.
