Chapter 18 - E.V.A (Part 2)

1357 years ago.

Somewhere in a dark cave, a being made out of pure metal awoke.

It's processing programming started to develop, and with it, it's intelligence.

It looked around accessing it's situation.

Next to it lied a woman sleeping.

Her head was being held in her arms.

She seemed to have been working on the table for a while now, the metal being could access it from the amount of papers laying around.

The first thing the being did was carefully picking up the woman and bringing her towards her bedroom.

It couldn't explain why it knew the location of that bedroom, but it somehow did.

And she knew that her biggest priority was to protect it's creator.

Placing it's creator carefully on the bed and putting a warm blanket over her, the being then did the next thing.

Cleaning.

In just a few hours she managed to put all books in the shelves, cleaning the entire base, wiped off the dust from every corner of the base and threw most of the trash away.

Then, it somehow knew that it's creator started to wake up.

So she quickly ran towards the kitchen and started to prepare breakfast gor it's creator.

After being done, she brought it as quickly towards the bedroom.

Just as she started to wake up, the being was there with a bowl of soup, bread, chicken legs, cookies and tla cup of tea.

For a moment, it's creator seemed to be in disarray. She clearly wasn't in the same place she fell asleep.

Then, seing her creation, she got herself together, and with a smile was about to stand up, but her creation put it's metal arm on her chest and carefully, without using to much force, put her back in it's bed.

«You are tired», it said, «please don't overextend yourself.»

It's creator decided to oblige.

She then looked at the food prepared.

Her expression didn't change.

«Are you hungry master?», the being asked.

For the first time since it woke up it had a sense of fear.

Was it's knowledge of it's creators favorite food wrong? Did she disappoint her?

«I am. I am indeed.»

Being happy that it prepared the right food, the being quickly took the palet up, took a spoon of soup and held it perfectly in front it's creators mouth.

It's creator opened it, signaling to the being that it should feed her, and so, she carefully fed it's mother.

Many years later.

Thr bunker soon became bigger. The entire mountain was now completely filled with other beings made out of the metal the first being was created.

Many traps were in the process of being built.

The place would soon to be an almost impenetrable fortress.

And the first created, now called E.V.A, looked after the place.

There was another raid of monsters that tried to get up the fortified mountain.

Just like last time, they were all destroyed by both E.V.A, and the other machines created by their creator.

And now, E.V.A was about to return back to her most important job.

Being a caretaker.

E.V.A up till now lived a rather, fulfilling life, if you even could call it a life. She never had any need fir anything. She didn't need to eat, drink, sleep or anything else.

Her creators life and happiness was for her the most important thing.

If she managed to do so, then she would be happy.

And now, after a few moments, she returned to her master.

Her creator, meanwhile, stood in front of a platform, which held a circle-shaped thing made out of metal. That thing was also almost completely covered in runes.

What that thing was that E.V.A's creator was building didn't really matter to her. Her creator always build rather unorthodox things. She herself was one of them.

The creator took out a black box with a big red bottom, pushing it, she watched the platform with anticipation.

And then, the runes started glowing.

Magical energy started to be pushed together into one single point.

Then, it all seemed to dissappear, only for a big flash of light envelop the entire room.

Before anything bad happened, E.V.A ran towards her creator and putting herself in front of her taking mist of the damage herself.

But her creator was also pushed back from the kinetic force emitted from the niw broken platform.

The entire room was destroyed.

Many hours later, the creator awoke.

And right next to her she saw her loyal creation sit next to her.

"Are you fine, E.V.A?", she asked.

"My condition is not important master. You are the only thing that truly matters."

The creator for a moment could help but sigh.

After so much work and so many years her build failed. What did she do wrong?

Where her calculations wrong? Or did the gods themselves decided to intervene?

She couldn't help but let tears flow her eyes.

E.V.A, not knowing what her creator currently thought, knew only that for some reason she was distressed.

Her mind tried to find the most optimal solution to make the mood of her creator brighten.

But then E.V.A decided to do the next thing.

She slowly came to her creator and gave her a simple hug.

With thar, her creators tears gushed down stronger, as she was no longer capable of holding anything in.

And so, they sat.

When they were done, the creator looked at E.V.A and had to realize somethin crucial.

"You know, E.V.A, I just thought of something."

"Yes master?"

"You haven't changed even one bit. You are still as beautiful as the first time I saw you."

"…you are also beautiful."

The creator then only smiled.

"One time that may have been the case. Now I am getting older and older. And I honestly don't know what to do with my life anymore."

E.V.A felt for the first time a sense of warning. Was her creator about to commit suicide. No, that shouldn't happen.

"Master are you…"

"Do you know what the machine was that I built right there E.V.A?"

"If I don't mistake, it was something akin to a portal."

"Not just any portal E.V.A. A portal towards the future."

E.V.A didn't know what to respond to that.

"You know, in the far, far future, the empire of Konstania, the human empire, will summon 20 heroes. 20 great heroes that were supposed to defeat the deviled one's and bring piece to this world in the name of the gods. I was one of them."

"I am sorry, but master. How can uou be among those heroes if they only appear in the …"

"I was one of the 20 heroes. Nine men and eleven powerful and beautiful women. Funny you know. Not all of us got along well. I got the job of yhe engineer. Compared to the warrior, healer, rogue, wizard and archer I wasn't really special. The only one I was close with was that one alchemist. He was a lizarfmam."

"But master. Look around look at yourself. Look at this base. Look at me! Look what you created! If not all of your 'companions' saw the potential you had than they are fools! I bet that alchemist only got together with you because he wasn't so dumb like the others…"

"There was also thar one poor blood mage. Her ability also wasn't as powerful as the wizards. But about the alchemist? Who knows. Maybe you are right, maybe you are wrong. But we were close. And thinking back he reminded me of my husband."

"…you had a husband"

"And three beautiful daughters. I was just about to give birth to our fourth child, this once a boy, but when I closed my eyes to take a nap, I was summoned here. The God of Southington turned me into a dwarf, and I now had to live a new life. That was probably the reason both the alchemist and myself of us got close so easily. If I remember correctly he also gad once a family, but something bad happened and everything changed for him."

"Do you remember his name, master?"

Her creater stopped, and starred thinking.

"No, I do not."

E.V.A thought for a moment, and then asked her creator the next question. It seemed it made her creator look more at ease.

"Is it possible for that alchemist to have been your husband?"

"…. I thought of that, but no. They were similar but had their differences. The alchemist was more… .mature? Alone? It seemed the alchemist lived a long life of pain and sorrow before he became a lizard. My husband never seemed like this. He was a brilliant man, but also naïve. He would never allow things to happen, and he would bever do things the alchemist did."

"What did he do?"

"Oh, you know. The party once made a bet that the alchemist wouldn't be able to singlehandedly defeat a village of demonic worshippers. The alchemist then poisoned the river ghe village took their watersupply from, and after a few days, the entire village died. They then stooped being to rude to him, after all they needed him for his potions. My husband would never do such a thing. He would most likely just try to make the village give up on their beliefs in deviled ones and the corrupting powers of the dark gods, or just try to make their deaths as painless as possible. The alchemist and my husband were two different beings."

E.V.A however thought that her creator still had doubts about that. It was possible that her creator just tried to believe this herself. She most likely didn't want to believe that her husband could possibly become the being that the lizardman alchemist would be.

Trying to change the subject, E.V.A asked how her creator came to the past.

"It's simple. One day we had to fight against a mad scientist that wished to go back to the past to change his future. We swiftly defeated him but his creation, that platform, remained. The party then decided to destroy it, and gave me the job to do so. After I tried, I seemed to have accidentally put it on, and went back in time. After all these years I tried to return back, but I never could. It seemed like I'll have to live the rest of my live here."
