"Then I'll go cook." Yan Shu looked back with concern when she saw that her parents were being overly attentive to Bo Su. She felt truly worried for him.
Arriving in the kitchen, Yan Shu took out the pork chops, grass carp, and seafood from the fridge. However, as she weighed the ingredients, she suddenly had a moment of clarity and realized what she was doing.
Garlic pork ribs, boiled fish slices, and garlic seafood were all Gu Yucheng's favorite dishes.
But now, she was cooking for her new husband, Bo Su.
Yan Shu put all the ingredients back into the fridge and finally decided to make some lily porridge instead, along with some fresh seasonal dishes.
In the living room.
Yan Shu's parents sat on the sofa, their sharp gazes scrutinizing Bo Su closely.
For any male friend who came to visit Yan Shu, they had always held only one belief—they all had ulterior motives towards Yan Shu.
However, Yan Shu was already taken. In order to protect their daughter's reputation, the two elders would do whatever it took to get this male friend out of the way.
"Bo Su, our Yanshu and Gu Yucheng are getting married on New Year's Day. You have to come to their wedding banquet."
Bo Su smiled. His wife was getting married to another man and her parents were inviting him to attend their wedding. Sorry, but he wasn't such an open-minded person.
"New Year's Day. What a coincidence. I'm also planning to hold a wedding with my wife on that day." He would be attending the wedding too. Who would be Shushu's groom otherwise? He would never do anything to put her in a spot.
Mrs. Yan glanced at Bo Su's bare fingers and a shrewd glint flashed across her eyes.
"That's really a coincidence. Bo Su, pass me your wedding invite. Auntie will take the time to attend your wedding."
Bo Su gave her a taste of her own medicine. "How about giving me Shushu's wedding invite?"
"Old man, the invite."
Father Yan opened the coffee table drawer and handed Bo Su the invitation that he had printed in advance.
Bo Su took the invite with both hands and his sharp gaze landed on the names printed on it. Gu Yucheng and Yan Shu's names were surrounded by a heart shape. Printed on it were the words "A hundred years of bliss".
Bo Su's smile disappeared. He didn't know that Shushu and Gu Yucheng were at the stage of discussing marriage.
Bo Su was a competitive person. Gu Yucheng was Yan Shu's past. How could he possibly lose to him?
"Yes, Gu Yucheng has finally come to his senses. Congratulations, Shushu. You've finally gotten what you wanted." He emphasized the word "finally," highlighting the embarrassment that Gu Yucheng had brought to Shushu.
Father Yan and Mother Yan's faces darkened immediately. They suddenly felt quite upset at Gu Yucheng.
"Where is the groom planning to hold the wedding?" Bo Su pressed on.
Father Yan and Mother Yan's faces turned even darker. If word got out that the Yan family was paying for the whole wedding, Yan Shu's reputation would be tarnished.
"Rose Manor." Since Father Yan was paying for his daughter's wedding, a budget-friendly venue was chosen for the ceremony.
Bo Su frowned and said, "Rose Manor is a vintage American-style venue from the last century. It only caters to budget-friendly Western-style weddings. Besides being affordable, there are no other advantages. This wedding will be a compromise for Shushu."
Father Yan and Mother Yan lowered their heads and began to feel sorry for their daughter.
Bo Su had successfully dragged Gu Yucheng through the mud. His arrogant black eyes were filled with a sly smile.
When Yan Shu came out with the porridge and side dishes, she saw the dejected expressions on her parents' faces, but Bo Su looked like a rooster who had just won a war.
She was slightly stunned. How could her parents, who were like fighter jets, lose to the quiet and reserved Bo Su?
When Mrs. Yan saw the porridge and side dishes on the dining table, she started complaining, "Shushu, didn't I ask you to cook seafood and abalones? How can you serve our guest with these dishes?"
The word "guest" created a strong sense of unfamiliarity.
Yan Shu explained, "Bo Su has serious digestive problems. He can't eat fish and meat."
Mrs. Yan immediately stopped talking.
Bo Su looked at the lily porridge on the table. The ingredients were clearly prepared to nourish the stomach, and there were various colorful seasonal vegetables, well-balanced and nutritious. The food on this table appeared simple, but it was actually meticulously prepared with great care.
His heart was filled with warmth. When he was consulting with her as a patient, he had only mentioned casually that he had serious digestive problems. He didn't expect Yan Shu to still remember it. She was indeed a gentle and considerate girl.
Bo Su pulled out a stool and sat down naturally.
When Yan Shu came over, she took a seat beside him naturally.
Mrs. Yan and Mr. Yan looked at each other with suspicion in their eyes.
"Shushu, how did you know that Bo Su had gastric problems?" Mrs. Yan began to question Yan Shu.
Yan Shu almost spat out a mouthful of porridge. "He… is my patient."
"I remember that you're a psychiatrist. Do psychiatrists also treat digestive issues?" Mother Yan was unrelenting.
Yan Shu said, "Many patients in the Psychiatry Department have gastrointestinal dysfunctions."
Mrs. Yan gave up and glanced at Bo Su sympathetically.
"Bo Su, don't worry. Although my daughter is young, she is highly-skilled. She will definitely be able to treat your illness." She emphasized the doctor-patient relationship between them.
Bo Su looked at Yan Shu and nodded. "Yes, I believe in Shushu."
The atmosphere at dinner was quite oppressive, with Yan Shu's parents repeatedly bringing up the topic of "Yan Shu is getting married, and the groom is not you". Meanwhile, Bo Su took every opportunity to run down their former son-in-law.
After the meal, Yan Shu heaved a sigh of relief. While Mr. and Mrs. Yan was washing the dishes in the kitchen, Yan Shu ordered Bo Su to leave in case of any misunderstanding.
"Bo Su, I'll send you back."
Bo Su was stunned. He looked at Yan Shu bitterly. "What about you?"
Yan Shu whispered, "Look at how my parents are so guarded against you. You won't be able to take me with you today."
"When are you coming home?" Bo Su frowned.
Yan Shu hesitated.
Bo Su put his mouth to her ear and whispered, "Don't forget that I'm a normal man. I don't want to be separated from my new wife for too long."
Yan Shu's ears turned red. She nodded shyly. "As soon as possible."
Bo Su stood up and said goodbye to the Yan parents. "Uncle, Auntie, I'm leaving. Thank you for your hospitality."
Father Yan raised his voice and shouted, "Take care. I won't send you off." His voice was filled with joy.
Yan Shu said, "I'll send him off."
The Yan parents were speechless.
After leaving the Yan residence, Yan Shu and Bo Su walked side by side in the dark neighborhood.
Bo Su suddenly stopped and reached out to her.
Yan Shu was shocked. She was always nervous about intimate relationships with the opposite sex. During her time with Gu Yucheng, their relationship remained platonic for the first few years.
Gu Yucheng's first attempt to steal a kiss from her resulted in her reflexively slapping him, leaving him feeling very upset over it.
Later on, each time Gu Yucheng wanted to hold her hand, he had to ask for her permission carefully.
Seeing that Yan Shu was not taking the initiative, Bo Su assertively held her hand and placed it in his broad palm. Then, without saying a word, they walked together side by side in silence.
Yan Shu felt like she was Bo Su's little pet.
When they reached the parking lot, Bo Su suddenly turned around and wrapped his arms around Yan Shu's slender shoulders. A gentle smile appeared in his handsome eyes.
"Honey, let me give you a hug."
