The woman who arrived at the scene was none other than Uchiha Sakuya, who had grown from a girl into a beautiful woman. She buried her face in the giant bear's fur, sobbing softly with a choked voice.
"Brother is gone... Brother Sōsuke is gone too... But how could you, Kumamoto, also leave me?"
As she sobbed, her tears quickly soaked the bear's fur. For some reason, her cries grew louder, as if she was venting all the pent-up grievances she had been harboring for a long time. It was reminiscent of when she first learned of Shino's death and cried intensely.
The giant bear, now with intelligence comparable to humans, could sense Sakuya's sorrow despite still being a child in its species. It sat there, allowing its massive body to shield Sakuya from the glaring sunlight, letting her pour out her grief.
After crying for a long time, Sakuya gradually stopped sobbing. Her eyes were red, and her pale face looked even more pallid. Over the past few years, she had been bottling up her frustrations, feeling a deep sense of grievance until now.
Having the two most important people in her life leave her made Sakuya feel abandoned by the world. Shino's death was already enough to sadden her, but soon after, her beloved Brother Sōsuke, who had always cared for her like an older brother, was declared a rogue ninja by the village.
When this news reached Sakuya, she could hardly believe it. Even now, she hasn't accepted it. She can't believe that the warm, sun-like Brother Sōsuke could become a rogue ninja. He must have had a compelling reason!
With this belief, living in the village was incredibly painful for Sakuya as she constantly heard various opinions. Whenever she heard people slandering the former 'Child of Konoha', the fourth Hokage who left the village, she wanted to defend him. However, despite her arguments, the fact remained that Sōsuke had left.
Living in the village, she felt deeply lonely, with her two closest people gone. When she went to the secret place she shared with Brother Sōsuke, hoping to find her only friend Kumamoto, she discovered that the bear was also missing.
Day after day, she didn't see Kumamoto's figure, and eventually, she accepted that he was gone too. From that day on, she visited the forest less and less, with increasingly long intervals. She could only alleviate her loneliness through training.
In the Uchiha clan, she found no one she could open up to, becoming more silent and stronger. Except for occasionally smiling in front of the growing Fugaku, she only felt a sense of presence in the forest where Kumamoto and Brother Sōsuke used to be.
This time, hearing rumors of the Iwa ninja preparing for war again, Sakuya felt sad thinking of her brother. Thus, she came to the forest once more, the only place where she could find solace.
Unexpectedly, she saw Kumamoto again, filling her with immense joy and a sense of grievance. She couldn't help but cry on Kumamoto, releasing all her emotions.
Once her emotions stabilized, Sakuya looked up at the now significantly changed Kumamoto, stunned. She wiped her eyes, her voice still trembling.
"Where have you been all this time, Kumamoto?"
Seeing that Sakuya had stopped crying and looked better, Kumamoto lowered his head, revealing a human-like smile. Hearing Sakuya's question, it seemed to respond, suddenly howling.
"Roar!!"
With its howl, the air shook violently, creating a surge of air that swept the dust around. The leaves on the trees trembled. For Kumamoto, a light howl was more intimidating than a tiger's roar.
Sakuya frowned, covering her ears tightly. Seeing Kumamoto about to howl again, she quickly patted him, giving him a lighthearted look.
"Enough, enough, you big dummy. If you roar again, I won't be able to stay here."
Hearing Sakuya's words, Kumamoto's ears drooped, turning its bear face away. Sitting like a small mountain, it shifted its massive body to face away from Sakuya.
Seeing this, Sakuya couldn't help but laugh, her sadness completely dissipating. Her eyes curved into crescents as she laughed, gently touching the fur on Kumamoto's short tail.
"Sorry, Kumamoto. I shouldn't have called you a dummy. You're the smartest bear. I apologize. Please forgive me, okay?"
Sakuya smiled gently, hands clasped together, looking up at Kumamoto as if apologizing softly. Hearing her words, one of Kumamoto's drooped ears perked up, as if listening to her.
Seeing this, Sakuya's smile widened. She praised Kumamoto again, calling him a role model bear. This time, both of Kumamoto's ears stood up, and his massive body turned towards her again.
Seeing this, Sakuya smiled, slowly extending her white hand.
"If Kumamoto forgives me, let's shake hands and move on."
Hearing this, Kumamoto looked at her, then grinned and slowly extended his paw. The size difference between their hands was vast, but they still gently shook hands, smiling happily.
At that moment, Sakuya noticed the red mark on the white fur on Kumamoto's chest, pausing.
"Kumamoto... have you become someone's summoning beast?"
As she thought about it, a memory from long ago surfaced. A gentle voice once said:
"Kumamoto, grow as much as you can. When you surpass your limits, I'll consider making you my summoning beast."
Remembering this, Sakuya's face filled with surprise as she looked at Kumamoto.
"Kumamoto, could it be..."
At that moment, a magnetic voice behind her interrupted.
"Sakuya, you've grown a lot."
