"Are you sure you want to talk to me? I really am the crazy guy." Kier sat next to Irel. Mint and Ina had walked away at the request of the little girl.
"Why did this happen?" she asked.
Kier blew air through his lips, snorting like a horse, and leaned back, propped by his arms. "Are you sure you want me to answer that? How old are you? Should you be asking that question at your age?"
"I'm eleven." The girl looked expectantly at Kier, waiting for him to answer.
He sighed. "Because life sucks, little cannibal. It'll do messed up things to you, unless it makes you do those messed up things. It had me killing my own sister, 'cause it made me choose between her and the rest of my family."
Irel's eyes widened and she leaned to a side, away from Kier. He took her hand, gently, before she could start running away.
"My sister went Mad, evil. She was going to kill my whole family, and possibly me, unless I stopped her."
The girl's body relaxed gradually as she gazed into Kier's eyes. She sat down again, hugging her arms to her chest.
"Why did she go evil?"
Again, Kier sighed. "'cause life sucks, little cannibal."
