Chereads / Sex With My Cousin / Chapter 22 - Chemical mutation.

Chapter 22 - Chemical mutation.

The phone rang mockingly daring me to answer the call.

My eyes never left the screen as Sarah handed the phone to me, "Is your call."

She was waiting to listen, to know why Christiana had called so early.

"Hello, Miss Mayer." I eventually had to receive the call under Sarah's angry look.

"What's up! When are you going to report?" Christiana Mayer barked through the phone. Her voice was loud and commanding, threatening to blast my eardrums.

"Sorry Madam, can I start the job officially tomorrow? I just need some time to set some things up please." I was low and polite as Christiana sighed from the other end with a warning not to be late.

The so furious call ended just so soon, leaving Sarah in questioning eyes, "So you have a Mayer Job to do? Why didn't you tell me?"

I scratched my tempo weakly replying that I just didn't want to upset her. I made her believe that I was still going to let her know during the day.

It was so easy convincing her, she nodded faintly bending her head halfway and accepting my confession.

"Now, do we do the online shopping or?" I quickly changed the topic before Sarah began more questions.

Time flew by like a jet as the sun settled in the centre of the sky.

The weather was unpredictable as huge cotton clouds condensed some distance away from the bright sun making the area a bit shady.

We had made an order via Ali Kaba for an oven and slicer both valued at $2340 and one more order from the inland Kumia Online shop requesting seven sets of tables and seats worth another $3000. Everything was presumably okay, the rest of the things we planned on buying after opening Fortune Coffee shop.

Lisa called some minutes after confirming that the baker was in town and that we could meet anytime. This was the first time interview I was going to conduct so I decided to leave the task to Sarah who was more proficient in questioning and examining.

Exactly at 3 p.m., we sat in the bamboo seats outside the cafeteria. Lisa joined our company minutes later before the man whom Lisa had recommended arrived.

From looks, he was decent.

We speculated his age to be around forty to fifty. I watched the man walking over to the table, with a cake smile on his old wriggled face that exposed his age. His hair was partially murky, and of course, he was a bald head.

"Good evening. I'm Ronald Bird, a former baker at Kupa Bakery." He introduced himself before we had a say as Sarah welcomed him for a seat while ordering packed Wanton Chicken flavor noodles for each of us.

"Nice to meet you Ronald, I'm Sarah, and this is August and Lisa." Sarah introduced us to Bird who nodded at each of us while stretching his hand for a shake. "Please, feel least pressured, and relaxed." Sarah bade Bird as our noodles arrived.

"Are you retired?" I asked Ronald who shook his head foolishly and gave me a confident look, "I got fired, you see..."

What a shame, Lisa looked down at the table as Bird continued his speech even after seeing my scathing objective look. "I had issues back at my house and the manager just fired me due to consistent lateness."

Well, I didn't get so much into his past as Sarah cut the talk off and created some friendship atmosphere around the table.

"Why aren't you eating your noodles?"

After chatty minutes, I also noticed that Bird's Wanton noodles were untouched and I instantly looked at him repeating after Lisa. "Why, don't you eat noodles?"

Ronald Bird at this moment looked down, his face pitiful as he pushed the bowl of noodles away reasonably. "I don't eat processed food, for six years I've been eating only organic, I mean like corn and wheat from the farms."

I felt pity as I thought he had some body problem but after a question Sarah had asked, Bird continued to explain.

"After my third born was born, I noticed that my son had brown hair despite our Bird Family that has black hair, two years later, my wife gave birth to another boy who had brown hair and a sharper nose than mine. Both of my last-born kids are completely different from us."

Ronald Bird then pointed at our dishes, " I'm sorry, but you shouldn't eat chemically processed foods, GMO chicken, or even McDonald's. "

We were confused. I looked at him as he continued. "My wife said that my continuous consumption of processed foods had caused her to give birth to chemically mutated children who resembled the Chief... That's why I've forbidden myself to eat only organic."

I tapped the table with my finger as Lisa gave me a disappointed look.

Ronald Bird was too talkative and foolish to qualify to be our chef.

"I'm so sorry about your mutated children Mr Bird. I guess we shall also stop eating noodles or visit McDonald's from today." Sarah patted the saddened man as she closed the meeting informing Bird that he hadn't passed the interview that was so easy peasy.

"We can't employ a man who has mutated children, we fear you might have some infections." Sarah talked low, rudely. I almost laughed as Ronald Bird stood up sadly and made a bow, regretting why he ate so much chemically processed food in his teenage years.

He is such a blockhead, can't he reason?

I felt sorry for him, his love for his wife was blind, and he trusted in his wife's words! How could it be?

I pitied him but I was not ready to enlighten him, it was none of my business.

"Lisa, do you know of anyone else?" Sarah asked as Lisa shook her head in fear of inviting another loser from her street.

"Let's just place an open invitation for anyone eligible then." I proposed as my phone beeped with a message from Christiana Mayer.
