Chapter 31: Sharing a Ward with Johanna
Johanna was angry when she saw that Rosendo would rather ride in Miranda's dad's car than her own dad's. She wondered if Rosendo really didn't like her at all, or if she wasn't pretty enough.
"Rosendo has left, let's go too!" Cheryl said helplessly to Johanna. She could tell that Rosendo didn't seem to like Johanna very much.
It was strange because there had been either strong winds and heavy rain or crazy storms recently, but today there was neither. If the sun appeared in the sky, it would definitely be a good day.
On the way back to New Mountain City, Johanna remained gloomy despite Cheryl and others trying to comfort her. Tyson and the others were aware of Johanna's situation; they had witnessed how warmly she greeted Rosendo while he responded indifferently.
Johanna sat quietly in the car while Rosendo's car was lively with Miranda chattering non-stop. She kept asking about how Rosendo saved Johanna and then how she herself got rescued. After hearing what happened from Rosendo, Miranda even kissed him and called him a real man.
This made Nicolas, who was driving their car, laugh bitterly. He thought if saving someone meant being a man for Rosendo, then what did that make him? And if he wasn't considered a man by those standards, then how did you come into existence?
After returning to New Mountain City, Nicolas immediately took Rosendo to the hospital. After examining his body, the doctor concluded that he had severe cold and fatigue and needed hospitalization for treatment. It wasn't a big deal for him to stay in the hospital; however, what surprised Rosendo was that Johanna also ended up being hospitalized and arranged for them both to stay together in her deluxe ward room. Was this implying something bad about him or did she have another purpose?
Rosendo's condition wasn't too serious at the moment, so Vanessa and the others didn't stay long. After all, they all had things to do. Vanessa, Miranda, and Cheryl needed to go back to school for classes while Tyson, and Nicolas needed to return to work at the company. Only Rosendo and Johanna were left quietly in a luxurious ward room.
Rosendo lay on the hospital bed while Johanna lay on a nearby sofa. Suddenly she spoke up, "Rosendo, do you hate me?"
Lying on the bed, Rosendo replied, "No! I never said that I hated you. It seems like you're just overthinking it." Rosendo could sense that Johanna seemed to like him.
"Then why do you ignore me all the time? Today I asked you to ride in my dad's car but you refused. I think you really hate me," Johanna said with a hint of grievance.
"My lady! I already told you there's no such thing; why are you insisting that I say I hate you?" Rosendo said helplessly.
The two of them continued chatting like this without much substance until they realized it was already dark outside. The nurse brought them a nutritious meal after dinner which they both enjoyed before Rosendo fell asleep again.
Johanna's cold is quite serious. Her head has been feeling dizzy, so she went back to her room to sleep.
In the middle of the night, a storm came again, accompanied by thunder. Johanna has always been afraid of thunder since she was little. Whenever there is thunder, she would either sleep with her mother or run to Cheryl's place. But now she is in the hospital, who can accompany her?
Rosendo lives with Johanna, so she goes to Rosendo's room. As soon as Johanna gets out of bed, she quickly runs towards Rosendo's room and wakes up Rosendo who was sleeping soundly due to the loud noise from opening the door. Rosendo turns on his bedside lamp and when he sees Johanna looking terrified, he nervously asks: "What happened?"
Standing in Rosendo's room, Johanna feels embarrassed and says: "I-I'm scared of thunder."
"You're scared of thunder? Are you kidding me? If you really are scared then how did you manage before?" Rosendo finds it hard to believe.
"When there is thunder I usually sleep with my mom or Cheryl," Johanna says sadly.
"What will you do now? Your family isn't here and you've come into my room; don't tell me you want to sleep with me?" Rosendo jokes.
With a loud bang, the terrifying sound of thunder echoed from outside, shaking one's heart and making their ears numb. Jagged bolts of lightning occasionally struck the ground, while dust and light objects like leaves filled the air, adding to Johanna's growing sense of fear.
She screams and throws herself onto Rosendo tightly hugging him. Although Johanna doesn't want this situation but for a normal man like Rosendo being pressed down by such a beautiful woman makes him worried that he might do something inappropriate.
"Hey hey... get up quickly! If you don't get up soon don't blame me for playing tricks on you," Rosendo threatens Johanna. To be honest, he doesn't even have the strength to push Johanna away right now, and even if he wanted to play tricks on her, he wouldn't stand a chance against Johanna unless she allows it.
Johanna doesn't believe Rosendo's words. If Rosendo really is that kind of person then when she let him kiss her that day, he wouldn't have refused. Johanna pleads pitifully: "Rosendo, I'm really scared of thunder. Can I sleep with you tonight? I promise I won't bother you, really."
"If you keep pressing me like this all night long, I might not die but will definitely be disabled tomorrow," Rosendo says panting heavily. Johanna has a curvaceous figure so naturally she isn't light in weight; otherwise Rosendo wouldn't be struggling so much under her pressure. He swears that once his body recovers, he will exercise properly because it's embarrassing to be unable to catch his breath just from being pressed down by a girl.
Johanna's face turns red as she didn't realize before but after hearing what Rosendo said she realizes that she was lying on top of him in quite an indecent posture! She quickly rolls over and sleeps beside Rosendo.
The thunder outside continues without stopping. When Johanna came out hastily earlier, she forgot to bring clothes and now she is only wearing thin pajamas feeling cold. After thinking for a moment and mustering up courage since they've already kissed each other and she likes him anyway - sharing a bed and covering themselves with one blanket shouldn't be an issue.
So Johanna crawls into the blanket where it feels warm enough while maintaining about ten centimeters distance between herself and Rosendo on the bed.
"Damn... You're not afraid that I'll take advantage of you?" Rosendo is speechless about Johanna's actions. They aren't even that close, how can she be like this? He doesn't know if he took advantage of her or if she took advantage of him.
"I believe you're not that kind of person," Johanna whispers softly. For some reason, she feels comfortable and safe sleeping with Rosendo.
