With the couch prepared to the best of his ability, Jerry turned off the lights in the living room and moved towards the bedroom. He pushed the door open gently, the soft creak of the hinges barely audible. The sight that greeted him was Lydia, tucked under the covers in his makeshift guest room, bathed in the gentle glow of the bedside lamp.
Lydia looked up as Jerry entered, her eyes warm with a mixture of sleepiness and genuine happiness. "Hey," she greeted softly, her voice carrying a soothing quality.
"Hey," Jerry replied, his own voice hushed as if they were sharing a secret in the stillness of the night. He walked to the side of the bed and stood there for a moment, taking in the sight of Lydia in his bed, her form cocooned beneath the blankets.
"Thanks for the cozy accommodations," Lydia said with a faint smile, her eyes lingering on him.
Jerry returned the smile, his heart feeling strangely light. "You're welcome. I hope you find it comfortable."
