ON SECOND THOUGHTS, SOMETHING DID HAPPEN
She didn't respond.
"Why didn't you get something to eat, Ms. Mccody?" He asked again.
She lightly hit her forehead and laughed, uneasy.
"I wasn't really hungry, so I decided not to bother myself. I don't want to force any food inside my mouth," she knew she was rambling, she didn't know how to tell Mr. Richmond that she was disregarded in the very restaurant he asked her to eat in.
He peered forward, resting his elbows on his table. He narrowed his eyes in suspicion, "you are sure you are not hungry?"
She quickly nodded in affirmation, "Yes sir, I am not hungry."
Richmond smirked slightly, he could hear her stomach noises from where he was sitting and it was kind of loud. She looks cute when is lying, he thought.
Her blue eyes were twinkling in anxiety as if she wanted to leave but she couldn't. Her fingers were digging into her palm, she wasn't doing so well in lying.
She was struggling with the urge to yawn hungrily. She was so famished, I am so hungry, I can eat a whole cow. Ok, not a whole cow. But I would love to eat something heavy, anything, she thought.
And Richmond wasn't helping matters, he was still looking at her with that suspicious gaze as if telling her to confess.
Suddenly, she remembered the food she left on her table, When I leave here, I am going to eat that fish soup anyway. I don't care if it is cold, I will manage it like that, she thought to herself.
Richmond decided not to push her to confess anymore, he relaxed into his seat, "You can leave but we will be going out in an hour."
That wasn't in the schedule, she thought. She was curious, "Sir, where are we going to?" She asked.
"Somewhere I am going to kill you and bury you, where no one will find you," he said offhandedly.
Her eyes widened in terror.
He smiled, his eyes filled with mirth, "What do you think I am? A thoughtless animal! We are going to Cronbury province. It is time we start going out on business deals, don't you think? His smile was still intact on his face.
Anne sighed in relief.
"You can leave," he said dismissively, taking the package she brought off the table. The scent of flesh meat was thrilling to his senses.
She walked to the door, reaching for the handle. Richmond called her name, she turned to face him.
"I forgot to tell you. The food you kept on your table, I asked the cleaning lady to take it away, it smelled bad, the fand ish smelt disgusting."
She widened her eyes in anger, that was the only hope she had to quench the hunger that was tingling in her belly. She wanted to shout at him, she wanted to kick him in the place where the sun doesn't shine at all. She wanted to do a lot of crazy things to him, how dare him, she thought angrily.
She has seen her future, she doesn't see Mr. Richmond firing her. She was going to die of hunger and that day was today. She hasn't eaten since morning and even yesterday, she didn't eat much. She wanted to cry.
Just then, her stomach sang out in protest. It wasn't a gentle sound but a loud rumble that sounded out in the office.
She was embarrassed, why didn't she leave when she had the chance? She thought.
It didn't sing when she was in the restaurant, it didn't sing when she was in the car, why did it sing in front of her crush?
Richmond burst out in laughter, "I thought you said you weren't hungry?"
She pouted her lips in embarrassment, "It wasn't my fault, if not for those weird staff in the restaurant you sent me to."
The smile disappeared from his face, "which staff? His face was void of emotion.
She became scared of him, he wasn't looking bright anymore, in fact, his face was a dark forest, unreadable and stoic. She liked him when he was smiling, she thought.
Somehow, he was becoming protective of Anne and it scared him but he couldn't help it, "You are wasting my time Anne, I don't like people wasting my time," he said, unknowingly calling her name.
But his mistake didn't go unnoticed by Anne, somehow it pleased her to hear her name passing through his lips, than Ms. Mccody.
She raised her eyes to match his gaze and the wave of darkness that pooled in those dark depths was frightening, "They were saying crazy things, and the guy, I believe his name is Savior. They were telling me, I wasn't going to last and they were snickering at me and I felt so uncomfortable. He even came to me when I was seated in your car, he was looking at me oddly as if trying to sniff me, and somehow it scared me. I couldn't eat even if I tried."
His muscles grew more taut, if Savior could smell her and he reacted that way to her, that meant she wasn't safe. Speaking of her smell, he dragged the air into his nose, savoring it. Her scent was very alluring, it was going to be her nemesis.
He was going to have a word with Savior today, who does he think he is to mess with his secretary? He thought angrily.
He said, "You have to eat something, I don't want you fainting in your duty. You still have my card with you?"
She opened her mouth in a gasp, she had forgotten to give him his card. She dipped her hand in her pocket, feeling the black card in her hand. She brought it out and showed it to him, "Here it is."
"Go and get something for yourself, I don't want to hear any more stories. Take your time," he looked at his watch and said, "Ten minutes have already gone, you have fifty more minutes to do everything you want to do. So, shoo!"
She didn't need to be told again, she opened the door and went out of the office. True to his words, she didn't see her food on the table. She groaned out, "What does he have against fish," she muttered beneath her breath, wondering how the food she placed on her table would be disturbing him in his office.
Richmond was at peace with himself, the piece of fresh meat he was eating was satisfying. He only told Anne he eats only meat, he was sure she didn't understand the type of meat he normally eats.
He eats fresh meat, the one freshly killed. With the bones and blood still very tender, he couldn't eat normal food.
He couldn't remember the last time he ate a meal cooked on the fire. He missed those days when he could sit down among his pack mates and they would roast their kills on a bonfire, he would be given a large piece of meat and his sister Shelia would complain about her size of meat compared to his own. His mom will try to calm her down, gently patting Shelia on her back. His father will be the one watching over the meat as it is being roasted in the fire.
Everything was because of this stupid thing placed upon me, he thought darkly.
