(3rd POV)
Klaus walked over to his father's office. He is going to explain his idea which will be a great success if implemented properly. For the idea to become to fruition, he needed his father's permission and help.
His pitch needed to be perfect or there is a chance that this could fail. If that happens, all his plans have to be postponed and new plans are to be made for the time.
Knock! Knock!
"It is me Father", Klaus said as he knocked on the door.
"Come in", a voice spoke from the inside. As he got the permission, Klaus opened the door and entered his father's office.
His father appeared busy, sifting through some documents on his table.
"What do you want to speak with me Klaus?" his father asked without looking up.
"Father, I want to be frank, so can I speak freely?"
Understanding the serious tone in his son's voice, Elloden put down the document he was holding and turned his attention to Klaus.
Klaus adjusted his throat, "Father, you know that I read a lot. From them, I know that a noble passes his or her title and fief to their firstborn."
"Klaus, why.."
Before his father tried to speak Klaus interrupted, "Father, let me speak before you come to any conclusion."
Elloden understood that Klaus wanted to ask about inheriting his seat. He expected this to happen but not at this point in time. As he has not made a decision, any child could have a fair chance to get his seat.
This is one of the most common problems that every noble house faces. Brothers fight each other to get the noble title and wealth. A healthy competition is welcomed, which would in turn increase the house power but most of the time this isn't the reality.
There would be backstabbings and backroom deals with shady personnel to gain the noble status which would only bite them in their asses one way or another.
Elloden remembered his own tragedy with his brother that happened not long ago. Even the house of Emsier was not impervious to such situations. There were several incidents of such in the past.
He was afraid that this would happen again with his sons. So in order for that not to happen, he was racking his brain to bring fair competition.
He already told the first two about the competition. They will be observed and judged depending on their performance. If any backstabs or backroom deals with outsiders are done which would cause the house troubles, they would be thrown out of the house and stripped of their house name.
Since Klaus asked this before even his third son, he felt something bad happened and Klaus might have picked up on it and this conversation is because of it but what Klaus said next surprised him.
"Father, I know most of the time the firstborn child would inherit the seat of the house and there are times when there would be competition between siblings to see who should inherit. What I wanted to ask of you is that if you are thinking of such a competition, I wanted you to remove it from the participation list."
"I have no desire to rule but I want to be a merchant. I want to start a restaurant business. Before you say anything, first let me cook today's dinner and you can give me your verdict after that."
Elloden didn't understand but he felt a bit of relief and sadness at the same time. He was relieved because one of his children wouldn't have to go through the grief he went through with his brother but at the same time, he felt sad that this would deprive his son if he belongs to the seat.
He can't say much now but he can decide after dinner, "Okay, I'll have the cooks informed about this."
"Thank you Father for giving me the chance and I do need one or two cooks to help me in the kitchen", saying that Klaus left the room.
After that Elloden told his servant, who was the head servant of the house, to inform the cooks about what is going to happen later that night.
---
"Oh, what smells so good?" asked Sylvia.
"Little sister, you should curb your anxiety and wait like everyone else. I don't want to ruin the surprise for you", answered Klaus. He continued speaking, "The first dish you are going to taste is called Chapathi served with Potato Curry."
After the dish was placed before the family, he showed them how to eat with their hand.
"Wow, spicy..."
"Too spicy for me."
"Hot and spicy, I like it."
"Now, the next dish is called Pasta, served with tomato sauce. You have to use the fork and spoon."
"Nice..."
"It is good."
"Now we have Burger and fries with tomato and chili sauce."
"Tasty."
"Ummmm."
"With three main dishes served, now we can go to sweets. What we are having today is called Sweet Potato Pie."
"Sweet..." Sylvia jumped out of the chair in excitement after eating the pie.
"Sylvia, don't jump when you are eating", Tela spoke trying to bring the unruly child back to her seat.
"Excellent.."
"Sooo sweet."
"So overall what do you think?" asked Klaus.
