Chapter 34 - Choosing the optionals

(Klaus's PoV)

I ate to my stomach's content for the night. I gulped down a lot compared to what I usually eat. Ever since I got the Gluttony, my appetite increased by a lot compared to others of my age. Missing lunch made my hunger that much higher.

It seems to vibe with what the sin of gluttony is from the books I read in the past life. It looks as if there is no boundary for the hunger.

Gluttony is like eating and eating. Always eating. Eating everything, I mean everything.

I was lucky that I didn't develop such strong hunger. Though my hunger increased, I don't think that it is at a level of what was described about gluttony.

Maybe the reason for this is the system or maybe not. I do need to find the reason for that or there is a chance that it would go out of control. This applies to every other sin but for the near future, I see no opportunity to learn about this.

So I added it to the list of growing problems for my future self.

I returned to my room for the night and I need to ponder on choosing my optional classes. This is my most immediate concern.

In addition to first-year basic classes, these optional classes would provide benefits for many.

These optional classes included magical professions like Alchemy, Rune Script, Formations, and Enchanting. Except for alchemy, the other three are interwoven.

There are other optional classes like Magic Research for the aforementioned subjects but this is only available for seniors. You need a basic understanding of something before you delve into research. Otherwise, it is just a waste of time and resources.

There are some bureaucratic classes too for commoner birth cadets. Most noble-born children would have been tutored from a young age in such paths.

For commoner-born children, no such lessons are taught. As they now qualify to enter the noble circle, they needed to learn proper mannerisms.

I can skip these as I already went through them.

The classes I am interested in are Alchemy and Rune Script.

Alchemy is straightforward. It is used to create potions and pills used for human utilization. There are regenerative potions like Health or Mana potions that regenerate lost health or mana when consumed.

There are pills that help awakeners to break through to higher levels especially when one is at the boundary of such a jump.

In some novels, there are mentions of alchemy products used for transmutation and transfiguration. In this world though I have never heard of such use. Maybe they are state secrets that only higher-ups know about such knowledge.

Anyway, alchemy would be pretty useful for me. I can create potions and pills to enhance myself. Most people won't choose such a subject as alchemy is a resource-eating profession.

In the early stages of learning, there would be a lot of waste of resources. So only the wealthy or ones that are backed by one, would attempt at alchemy.

I can afford it because of the profits from businesses. From what the guidebook mentioned, the professor assigned would only teach the theory part of the class.

For the practical part, they would show only low-end recipes once. If you want to practice, you have to buy your own resources. You can buy resources for this usage if you get an approval letter from the concerned professor.

You may even sell the finished products to the mission hall or other cadets for either gold or points.

This is one of the perks available for those who are taking production classes.

Though they can alchemy ingredients by using gold, this is only applicable for low-end and mid-end recipe ingredients. High-end recipe ingredients can only be brought using points. This was done to keep fairness among students.

The ones who are interested in production classes wouldn't venture out much. So they would never gain any points from the mission hall for completing missions. So they would never have points to buy low-end ingredients when they start out.

In the beginning, most of the ingredients would waste out, so they wouldn't have much chance to gain points.

The only reason for restricting high-end ingredients is that if gold is allowed for everything then the entire reason for the points system would go down the drain.

This class is very suitable for me and so I immediately decided to choose this as my optional class.

Though I'm interested to take the Rune Script class, I'm already overwhelmed. If I add more burdens I can't concentrate and would fall far behind.

It is also advised not to bite more than you can chew.

Tomorrow I'm going to register for the Alchemy Class. Now let's have a good sleep. Though I slept already in the afternoon, sleep is invading me.

Ahhhh-hhaaaaaa!
