"That was her, right?" Artalis questioned me as I walked back to my class, while showering in congratulations from all the students. The number of students was few. Barely reaching two hundred. And as a person who was a part of two classes in one year, I was well familiar with most of them.
"Yeah" I replied as soon as I stepped out of the school. After waving farewell to Jacob and his followers, I decided to go out myself.
Looking at the wolf boy's back, I shook my head in exasperation. I underestimated the stubbornness of a hormonal muscle headed shifter. I mean, he had changed schools just because he heard that Bella was going to attend Forks High. It was clear for anyone, that the boy had a crush on Bella. And his reckless act only intensified after he began shifting.
The girl herself didn't look that impressive, at least to me. She looked like any other girl in forks. Pale, thin with normal hair, normal height... basically nothing noteworthy in the physical aspect. Or maybe hanging around Artalis had upped my standards, I don't know. Because like I mentioned many times, she was a pretty lady.
The time I spent with the school bro's, till now had been a great experience to me. I knew, from the moment I stepped into the school, that my days with them was numbered. A small and precious time period to live the school life I missed out without any of the responsibilities. And so, I enjoyed it to the fullest.
As previously mentioned, the school had a small number of students. You can't expect a school in the middle of nowhere to have a large number of students anyway.
The stoney's were there from the begining, brooding and lurking in the corners of their classes. But not just them, everyone, the teachers, freshmen and even the barely formed sports team held themselves in a solemn manner. Like their emotions were washed away from, the constant rain.
A high school's suppose to be fun, filled with life, testosterone and drama. Not something solemn and bleak like the Forks High School. And 'I' the great and magnificent transmigator, decided to take it upon myself to change my surroundings.
I joined the basket ball team. Football wasn't as popular because of the humid soil. I went as an reserve at first. Secretly contributing funds to the school while openly just hanging out with them, speed running my high-school life. And what do you know, it worked.
I walked into the woods slowly. The matters of school didn't matter much to me now. Not just because I had already grown out of that childish phase, but also because I found myself a new prey. The abnormally large canine foot prints pressed into the humid ground provided me with guidance .
The shifter I was on the hunt, was a not so rare loner. There were quite a few of them actually. Most of the shifters valued pack mentality, but some seemed to like their privacy due to the large numbers. Especially the one I had my eyes set up on.
The wolf was a rare one in it's own right. Unlike the normal timber colored ones, the one I had set my eyes on was a jet black wolf with a wild mane and had the built of a truck .
I paused for a moment before laying flat on the ground, as I placed my nose against the trail
The smell was the same of my prey. And it was fresh. That meant the shifter had only just entered the woods.
'I got it now'
"So you were serious when you said that it was your target?"
Artalis questioned me as I began to run through the forest with blurring speeds.
"What gave you the idea that I was not serious when I said it?" I asked Artalis as I zigzaged through trees. I was getting close, I could feel that in my bones.
"Well, I mean you said that you admired it, right?"
"Of course I did. That's why it has to be that one."
"I don't follow" Artalis replied making me almost sigh in exasperation. How could she not understant? That wolf was better than any of the others I came across during my time I wandered through the forest. It was strong headed, powerful, smart and crafty. It never joined the other packs, opting to stay on its own. Yet it always managed to elude the other shifters who wanted to find it. It had managed to defeat any challengers that wanted to make it submit . It was simply better than most of the dregs in a pack.
"It's exactly because it's special, that I have to eat it. A meal worthy of my interest. The flesh and blood of a beast of such beauty and power is the only meal worthy of my time. A divine feast!"
Saliva dripped down from my mouth as I imagined the wonderous meat . Sooo I might have maybe..probably.. possibly lost my morals with time. Being unable to eat something that actually had some taste, may be a factor to that.
"Wow.. you are definitely sick in the head."
I decided to ignore that comment. After all, how could she understand that there was more to food than just taste. For example, if someone had to choose between eating an apple from a normal farm tree and the apple that helped discover gravity, he would definitely choose the latter.
I slowed down before coming to a stop. The tracks had vanished.
I got onto the ground before sniffing only to find no trace of my prey.
'What happened? And where could it have gone?'
There were no trace of it. As if it had vanished. Nothing could one shot a shifter in Forks. And even if it did, there wouldn't be a reason or a way for it to hide all the traces. So where did it go?
"Did it discover me?"
I couldn't help but think at the possibility of this being a trap. Logically, it made sense. And the best point for an ambush was.....I whipped my head up to see a giant black wolf, falling at me with jaws wide open.
