Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Tragic Moon

Chapter 4: Day 2.1

It's already been nighttime, I woke up feeling uneasy, I can't find this base 'comfortable', but what I've felt yesterday was even worse than this, so I couldn't do anything but to adjust into it.

I walk outside the quarter to get some fresh air just to find out Amy was already there, "Oh? can't sleep?" She asked, I smiled. "You also asked me that same question yesterday, remember?" I said

She giggled, "Well, you don't want it?" She asked, I sat on the ground with her, "No, of course not,"

Underneath the moon's gentle glow, Amy and I sat together, sharing our thoughts and reflecting on the world that had been irreversibly altered. The night sky, once a source of wonder and tranquility, now carried a weight of uncertainty and fear.

"You see, I used to love the moon so much that I took a picture of it every night," Amy shared, her voice tinged with a hint of nostalgia.

Curiosity piqued, I turned to her, eager to delve deeper into her past. "Oh? That's something. What made you so captivated by the moon?"

A wistful smile played on Amy's lips as she reminisced. "There was a time when the world felt different, less chaotic. I found solace in the moon's presence as if it held the answers to all my questions. It was a comforting reminder that there was beauty even in the darkest of times."

I nodded, understanding the sentiment behind her words. "I can relate to that. It's strange how something as simple as the moon can evoke such profound emotions. But now, it feels different, doesn't it?"

Amy's gaze met mine, her eyes reflecting a mixture of sadness and longing. "Indeed, the world we once knew has been shattered. Our perception of normalcy has been altered beyond recognition. The moon, once a symbol of peace, now reminds us of the battles we've fought and the losses we've endured."

A heavy silence settled between us, the weight of our collective experiences filling the air. In that moment, we found solace in each other's presence, knowing that we shared the burden of navigating this new reality.

"Despite the hardships and uncertainties, we're still here," I said, breaking the silence. "And as long as we're alive, we have the opportunity to rebuild and find hope amidst the chaos."

Amy's eyes sparkled with a renewed determination. "You're right, Mico. We can't let despair consume us. We must hold onto the memories of what once was and strive to create a better future, even if it means starting from scratch."

As the moon continued its ascent in the night sky, we sat in quiet contemplation, drawing strength from the shared understanding that together, we would face whatever challenges lay ahead. In this shattered world, we found a glimmer of hope in each other, a reminder that amidst the darkness, there still existed the capacity for resilience and the possibility of rebuilding...

But again, nothing is constant nor forever. There are always the 'bad days' to us humans. The term 'bad luck' is always on our side and won't never leave us, I know that. Because just a moment, as we are looking at the beautiful moon we once love, we already have a sense of relief to us two just then the 'bad luck' came.

A scream from the distance was heard, and we both quickly stood up. "What's that?" I asked, "I don't know... is someone in trouble?" She replied

"Let's check it out," She said, and we both ran for where the sound is, many woke up from the scream, turning on their lights as we got closer. we could see a crowd into it.

Just before we could mix in, all of them began screaming and ran towards us, "AAAAAHHHH RUN! RUN!!!" they all said the two of us look at each other and just run for it.

While running with the crowd, we got the chance to ask what happened, "Hey! why are you all running!?" Amy asked, then gunshot have been fired, the army got in time.

"Everyone, calm down!" they announced, but again, another scream from the other direction was heard, then another, it kept adding up, and everything went to chaos. Everyone is panicking, and the soldiers can't even know who to shoot.

Amy, hold my hand, I look at her, scared as I am, I don't even know what to do, but she said "Follow me, don't ever let go of my hand" She said with a determination on her eyes, I nodded as we both run back to our quarters.

"Get your bags! we're leaving!" She said

"What? why? I thought you didn't want to go there once more?" I asked

"We have no choice!" she said, and gun fire has been pilling up, "It's either we leave or die here!" She said, We didn't have a choice.

We run towards the gate, but all the survivors are thinking the same way as us. They also want to leave, "Everyone! calm down! I repeat! calm down!" Again, the scream came, a woman's voice this time it was one of the survivors who is on the gate.

Everyone panicked and started running randomly, "Roger" the soldier received the order, and they started shooting everyone, even though people

"This is sick! they are even killing people now!" Amy said, I who can't believe what I'm seeing can't think straight, she pull my hands and we start running, I can't help but to look the people on the gate, for the very first time I saw it.

The monster that Amy was talking about, it was a human, no if it was a human, then It won't be eating people alive, they are... zombies? but how? I have many questions in my head, but I don't have the luxury to think of that for now.

At the sky, dozens of helicopters have taken off, leaving us behind, we find it unfair to be left behind, but blaming them now is unnecessary for is.

While running, one of the soldiers found us, pointing his rifle at us. we both put our hands on the air, "Please, have mercy on us," Amy said

"I'm sorry, but this is an order-" Right before he can finish his sentence a 'monster' came at him on the back and bite his neck, he scream and asked for help, "AAAUGHHHH!!!! HELP!!! HELP MEEE!!!" he then starts recklessly shooting at the monster

Someone then shoots from our back and kills the soldier and the monster, "Are you two okay?" we look at the one who shoots, and it was another soldier, "We need to go now! follow me, hey kid! it's dangerous there!" he saw me who went to the soldier's dead body

I ran to them, "Mico, what the hell are you doing!?" Amy asked angrily and worried, "We don't have time for this, we should start moving," he said, we followed him, those monster came to us but he shoots them with his rifle, "God damn it, Richard get the hell in! we're full!" he took us to an open place with a chopper on it.

there are also a dozen survivors in the chopper. We got in and fly to get the hell away from here

As the chopper soared into the night sky, the chaotic scene below became a distant memory. The adrenaline still coursed through our veins, but a sense of relief washed over us as we left the horrors behind. We sat among the other survivors, each of us grappling with the events that had unfolded.

The soldier who had rescued us, Richard, glanced at Amy and me with a mixture of concern and determination. "I'm glad we made it out of there," he said, his voice laced with exhaustion. "But the situation isn't getting any better. We need to regroup and find a safer place."

Amy nodded, her eyes filled with a mix of fear and determination. "Thank you for saving us," she said, her voice quivering slightly. "We didn't know what to do back there."

Richard offered a reassuring smile. "No need to thank me. It's my duty to protect and assist civilians in times like these. We're all in this together."

As the chopper flew further away from the danger zone, the reality of the world we once knew sinking in, I couldn't help but feel a mixture of disbelief and sadness. How had things escalated to this point? How had humanity fallen so far?

I glanced at Amy, her face etched with a combination of grief and resilience. In her eyes, I saw a glimmer of hope, a determination to survive despite the odds. And in that moment, I felt a renewed sense of purpose.

"We'll find a way to make it through this," I said, my voice filled with conviction. "We've faced unimaginable horrors, but we've also witnessed the strength of the human spirit. Together, we'll find a place where we can rebuild and live without fear."

Richard, overhearing my words, nodded in agreement. "You're right, kid. We can't lose hope. There are still pockets of resistance out there, and we'll join forces with them. We'll fight back and reclaim our world."

As the chopper carried us away, we left behind the remnants of our shattered refuge. But in our hearts, a flicker of hope burned bright. We would press forward, united in our determination to survive, and with the belief that amidst the darkness, there would always be a glimmer of light.
