Chapter 28 - Sticks And Stones May Break Your Bones

Zelda screamed at the top of her voice as she jerked backwards at the sight of the frightening creature standing in front of her.

Skinny, hooded, wearing ash bandages on two arms and legs, standing at least two feet taller, looking down towards her with an eyeball that sparkled in the shadow of darkness cast upon its face by the hood.

She stumbled as she tried to walk backwards quickly.

The Loom started walking towards her slowly as she scurried away back into the room.

When she reached her bed as she was still walking backwards quickly, not seeing her way, she hit the bed with the back of her legs and was startled looking back at the bed before then climbing it, and then crawling backwards until her back hit the wall.

When she saw she had nowhere to go, she quickly looked by the side, picked her pillow and held onto it tightly, curling herself around in fright.

As the loom got closer it stretched its arm as if to grab her.

Suddenly a flying burning fist-sized stone blitzed into the room through the window towards the loom.

It slightly evaded the stone leaving the object flying towards the door of the room.

The stone hit and pierced through the poor door.

When it looked up and saw who was outside, it left Zelda and ran out the window.

The loom generated dark energy on its two palms and squeezed them.

Three lightning rings formed around his fists respectively at different angles.

The stone thrower kept on picking large sized stones and infusing them with energy, throwing them at the loom.

The loom kept evading them as it was running towards the stone thrower.

When the thrower was out of stones, he infused his fist with energy and punched a large tree smashing the withering tree into sizable and weighty chunks of wood and began to throw them also towards the loom as he infused them with energy like the stones.

Apparently, this stone thrower had no weapons on him and had to rely on sticks and stones.

The loom kept dodging and when he came close enough, he landed a hard punch on the stone thrower knocking him to the ground.

Zelda, who had been on the bed inside the room then looked out the window.

"WHAAATT!!!"

She exclaimed on recognizing the stranger at a distance with one glance as his left arm was missing.

She suddenly hurried out of the bed, grabbed his tool bag from on top the bed cupboard and ran out the room window.

Usher was pinned to the ground by the loom.

He was struggling to escape the grip of the loom's hand on his neck.

When Zelda saw that he wasn't getting up, she quickly went in again through the window and ran straight to her father's store room and brought out one of his rifles.

She came out with it with the intention of scaring off the loom.

When she got out, she released the handle, and the bolt slammed home.

She fed a round into the chamber, and locked into place.

She then lifted the rifle and aimed carefully at the loom.

'BAAANNGG!'.

Having had some training in using the weapon, Zelda was able to make a good shot at the shoulder of the loom before it got a chance to hurt Usher further.

It jerked off Usher and began to run away, its arm dripping purple blood.

Soon the loom disappeared out of sight.

Zelda quickly dropped the gun and ran to where Usher was lying down on the ground.

He was breathing heavily, having been pressed down by the loom.

"Are you alright?"

Zelda asked him.

"You're always running away from me, but fate still keeps bringing you back like we're meant for each other"

She said with a witty expression.

"It has nothing to do with fate.

I saw the monster, and followed it here quietly.

I knew it must have been after me, and since you had contact with me, it would try to use you to capture me because they have some level of intelligence".

Usher answered.

He continued.

"You stopped being safe the moment you took me into your custody at that hospital lady.

I advise you get your things and leave this area because you'll always be in danger as long as you're connected to me if those things are after me.

He said.

Zelda who was kneeling down by his side looked at his face directly.

"Why are they after you?

Did you do something wrong?

You look like a trouble maker.

Zelda said.

"Jokes on you.

I don't know exactly why I'm being chased.

But even if I were to explain what I think, you still wouldn't understand so let go.

Usher said as he helped himself up with one arm pushing aside Zelda's left palm which was resting on his chest.

"I wonder how I'll cope in this situation with my left arm gone".

Usher said to himself while he sat up, his head bent looking down dejectedly.

Zelda heard him and asked.

"What happened to your arm?"

Usher ignored her and lifted himself up to standing.

Then after standing for a few seconds, he began to walk away.

"Seriously?

What the heck mister?

You're going to walk out on me again?

What the heck is so damn secret that you can tell someone who can help you?

I literally just saved your life right now"

Zelda said being pissed.

"As did I yours also.

Maybe I didn't make myself clear enough.

As long as you're connected to me you're in danger, you and anyone close to you.

You most likely will not survive"

Usher retorted.

"Same with you, next time one of those things show up again, there's a great chance it'll kill you.

But if we stick together, we might have a chance".

Zelda said.

"Why are you so concerned about me?

What does your life have to do with mine?"

Usher asked.

Zelda was taken aback by the question.

She realized she really didn't have a tangible reason for helping Usher.

Maybe she was just charmed by him, his personality such that she wanted to get involved in a stranger's life.

Or maybe she just felt pity towards him.

She quickly formulated an answer.

"I'm aware that a person's life is in danger and you just expect me to sit down and watch?"

Zelda asked unhappily.

"And what exactly can you do about it?'

Usher retorted.

"You've seen me in action".

She said.

"You got lucky.

It'll take more than a bullet to defeat such caliber of monsters lady".

Usher started walking away.

"Go home to your peaceful perfect life and keep your nose out of my business for your own sake".

Usher arrogantly said.

Zelda watched Usher walk away.
