Chapter 24 - Slippery

"I need to use the restroom".

Usher said.

He had been sitting on the bed for some minutes, having finally woken up again after two hours since he last fainted.

He was sitting on the bed in the presence of the doctor, the doctor's assistant Carol, Carol's team and Zelda.

"You really shouldn't Get up yet".

The doctor objected.

"But if you insist..." She continued.

Usher slowly got up from the bed and stood for some seconds before starting to walk towards the door of the ward.

As he passed Zelda slowly, she said to him in a low voice such that he alone could hear...

"Hope you're not trying to escape again"

Usher ignored her but answered the question in his mind while continuing towards the door.

When he closed the door behind him, he continued walking gently.

Once he got far enough for his footsteps to not be heard, he quadrupled his pace such that it was almost as if he was running.

In a short while he was again out of sight.

"That reminds me!

Carol, follow me, there are some patients we still need to attend to on the first floor.

The doctor said to Carol, signalling with her hand to her and the rest of the team to come along.

Carol's team followed her and they all went out the door, leaving Zelda alone in the ward.

Zelda sat on a chair beside the hospital bed, her elbow resting on the bed, and and her jaw resting on her palm as her fingers held onto her face.

She began to slowly and drift into thoughts as she stared out the window.

She maintained this posture for a few minutes and then the thought of Usher came into her mind.

Suddenly she realized that he should have been back already and he wasn't.

At the revelation, she immediately jolted up and started panicking.

She checked the table at the far end of the room where his tool bag had been kept and it was still there.

"Is he so desperate to go that he would even leave his weapons behind this time?

This guy's really determined to put me into trouble"

She said as she held her head with her hands.

She was so weakened by the outcome that she couldn't even get herself to begin a chase, after all, he was surely already long gone.

She sat down again dejected, her two knees touching each other as she held her forehead with her left fingers while her right arm rested horizontally on her laps.

Her head was bent down and her eyes closed.

She worried about how she would tell the doctor that Usher had slipped away from her care AGAIN.

After sulking for a while, she eventually got up and walked out the ward, intending to go to the first floor where the doctor was and update her on the current situation. She carried Usher's tool bag and left his ward.

When she got to the first floor, she asked where the doctor was and headed there.

The doctor was just rounding up and was getting ready to leave when Zelda entered.

When the doctor looked at her confused, she held up the tool bag in front of her feeling uneasy with a browbeaten expression.

The doctor immediately got the message and looked pissed.

***************

'Claannggg'

Roger's large blade crossed with that of a mage's energy sword created by mana as the mages rained down from mid air against Roger's men.

The mages outnumbered the small 9 man team and as such, each member of the squad had to take on at least 2 to 3 mages at a time.

Roger swung his large blade with great control.

The blade weighed approximately 7 pounds and could not be wielded normally by ordinary human strength.

An advanced breathing technique as well as an upgraded body build with good control of chi enabled empowered the muscles of his hands with enough strength to wield a blade of such weight.

While his blade was still crossed.

Four other mages appeared from behind the mage in front of him simultaneously with the sound of the crossed swords, two from each side.

They all stretched out mana-generated swords towards Roger while his sword was still crossed.

As he was about to get hit by the swords, he generated a gust of wind using chi beneath his foot.

The skillfully generated wind current shot him off the ground into mid-air at an angle about 60 degrees.

Wind art was Roger's main strength in the aspect of manipulation of the elements.

He was also trained in the use of other elements but the wind was what he was most acquainted with.

It was his strongest area.

"Fire art, burning blade technique!".

Roger exclaimedly said as he was still suspended while holding onto his large sword.

The sword immediately got clothed by a spontaneous surge of a wave of fire which engulfed it.

As he fell, he swung the sword downwards in the direction where the five mages were, on the ground.

As he landed sword-first, the ground cracked in all directions, the impact of the sword sending stones of large sizes flying around the area, and thick suspension of dust rising off the ground.

The mages at the last instance jerked off in different directions, evading the Lethal attack and landing some metres away.

The stones landed on the ground and the dust suspension settled after some seconds.

The five mages stood in positions surrounding Roger as clarity of vision was gained at the settling of the risen dust.

They all stood for some seconds, Roger looking downwards sideways, holding his sword which was pointing downwards also, but in the opposite direction.

Suddenly, the mages simultaneously stretched their hands forward as in a position that emulated holding up a bow and arrow. They then used mana to create pink-purple bow and arrow, each one of the same kind pointing the weapons towards Roger who was in their midst.

The energy arrow appeared already nocked to the bow and they stretched the elastic string with the nock of the arrow.

After stretching to some extent, the mages let go and five arrows flew at a mad speed towards a staring Roger.

"Wind art...!

Spinning tornado...!"
