Chereads / Abyss Mage Dethroned God / Chapter 21 - I'm Nobody

Chapter 21 - I'm Nobody

Usher was still sitting up on the hospital bed waiting for Zelda to answer his question about who she was.

"My name is Zelda.

I work here.

My dad found you close to our house in the fields when he was returning from the city yesterday.

From the clothes you're dressed in, you're clearly not from around here.

Who are you?"

Zelda replied Usher's question with a question.

"Who am I?...

I'M NOBODY!".

"You never saw me, you never heard from me, you don't know me.

He replied and started trying to run off again, opening the window.

"Please wait...."

Zelda immediately cut in walking closer slowly, her arms still stretched forward reassuringly, trying to calm him down.

"You can't leave just yet."

"And why can't I?" Usher asked frowning.

"We still have to run a few more tests on you to ensure you'll be okay".

Usher looked at her for one second and jumped out of the open window.

"Waiiittt...!"

Before Zelda could stop him he was long gone.

She blitzed out the door immediately and ran down the hall till she came out of the door of the main hall. She looked left and right and saw him climbing up a tank outside.

As he ascended the tank which was on an elevated platform with pillars, he got high enough to jump out of the hospital compound over the fence.

She followed by running out through the gate.

"What's wrong ma'am?"

A security guard at the gate asked as he saw her running out the gate swiftly.

"Huh...."

It was all hurried Zelda could say as she escaped through the gates and saw Usher running down the road that led away from the hospital.

She couldn't pursue him any further so she stood and watched him run off.

She immediately went back and told the guard about the situation and he called on some of his fellows who began to run in the direction Usher had run off.

The three security men kept pursuing him across the road and Zelda was following behind them.

Usher, as he was running, turned his head to discover that he was being pursued.

He immediately reached out to his side for his grapnel and was taken aback when he discovered it was not there.

"Of course.

I should have known they'd take it away, along with the rest of my equipment.

On realizing this, he suddenly stopped and allowed them to catch up with him.

When they were close enough, they stopped also.

Zelda came forward immediately, she was breathing heavily.

She bent over and placed her two hands on her laps as she managed to raise her head up

Exercise like this wasn't really her strong suit as she wasn't athletic.

"You stopped... Huufff....huuff..."

She said as she gaped.

"Give me back my weapons right away" Usher demanded.

"You'll have to answer me first", she said still breathing heavily.

"Are you from the monk civilization?"

She asked.

He looked at her and observed that a bunch of keys were hanging on her waist belt.

He immediately dashed forward towards her direction.

"Nooo..." She screamed as she raised her two hands to cover her face

The three guards jumped in front of her to protect her but Usher skillfully evaded them and got to her.

He swiped the key off her waist with his right hand and began running back in the direction of the hospital.

"Whaaatt!".

Zelda exclaimed.

They began again pursuing him backwards.

Usher ran down the road into the hospital.

He hypothesized that his weapons could be kept in one of the rooms close to the ward he was kept in, and that the key to the room must be part of the bunch.

As he entered the hospital, he instinctively ran to the door of the small room just beside the ward he was kept in and began trying the keys until one finally opened the lock and he got in.

Just then Zelda came into the main hall with the three security men.

"Room 32! His ward is room 32!!"

She said to the security as they blitzed off across the hall.

Just as they reached the ward and burst in, she heard a slight sound coming from the small room close to the ward and as the others entered she suddenly stopped and opened the door of the small room and bumped into a rushing Usher.

They both fell to the ground together, Usher lying on top of her. He raised himself up with his right arm and they stared at each other for some seconds.

Zelda's face turned bright red as she looked into his eyes.

Just then, the security men came out of the ward to see what happened.

Usher jerked up and started running again out of the hall, this time with his tool bag containing his weapons.

The security men rushed after him while Zelda who was on the ground leaned on her arm and sat up.

She held her cheek with her right palm, staring as the mob left the door of the main hall.

As Usher was running and about to leave the gate again, he suddenly tripped on something and fell down lying motionless.

The guards caught up with him.

"Hey!

It seems he's fainted one security guard called to another".

Just then, Zelda came out and rushed to where his body was.

"Oh no!

He's passed out! She exclaimed.

Help me bring him in please!"

She said to the other guards as she held her face with her hands looking worried.

They began carrying Usher with legs and arm back into the hall, heading for his ward.

The doctor suddenly appeared on the scene.

She looked shocked.

"What happened here Zelda?"

She demanded to know.

"Errmm... He kind of uhh... Woke up and ran out of the hospital, so we chased him and brought him back"

She replied in a shaky voice.

"What did you do to him? he's unconscious".

The doctor said frowning.

She walked forward to check Usher out.

She reached for his right wrist as he was carried by the three security guards and felt for a pulse.

"There's still an encouraging level of pulse.

Take him in, this time I'll have to put him under better supervision.

They took Usher back into his ward.

Back home, Zelda's father was driving through the road that led to the house.

He was returning from an outing, feeling a little sleepy and lazily turning the stirring wheel, his head faced down in negligence due to mastery of the driveway.

After it had been kept down for a while, he raised his head up in order to catch a glimpse of the bend ahead to be sure nothing was in the way before putting his head back down as he continued to drive.

As he looked up, he observed a sudden, swift shadowy movement across the field.

His eyes widened.
