Edward was only a few feet from his opponent when the ceiling caved in from the middle of the Citadel, his advance was abruptly cut short. People in the audience under the middle where the ceiling had caved in were trying to scamper to safety.
Some people had already been hit by the falling debris and trapped under the rubble. In the midst of the pandemonium, about ten figures dressed in total black could be seen dropping from the open ceiling.
Some people stood, watching the unknown persons drop into the now open arena. When the legs of the first dropped to the floor, he faced the person nearest to him and swung a knife, straight at the heart.
The person was dead in an instant. From that moment onwards, it was chaos and pandemonium inside the Citadel.
The others as soon as they had dropped also started attacking anyone they saw, not minding if it was a student or an adult. Seeing this, the few personnel that were in the Citadel swung into action. Respective teachers of each school protected their students and heralded them to the exit.
One would think that since the heads of the strongest families were up in the Citadel, it would be a fools idea to attack that same place. But that was exactly what was happening.
The leaders remained in their cubicle and watch the chaos unfold below. Though Astor and Hermes had both sent out their right hands. The other three still had their strong assistants by their side.
They had been informed of the murder of Derek the previous night, so they were all being cautious. They all expected something to happen, but not this soon and not in this manner.
One of the invaders saw Darla still on the stage, probably in shock from everything that was happening all around. He rushed in with a dagger in his hand, sue to the noise and chaos all around she didn't hear him get close until he was right in front of her.
Realising her mistake, she waited for the impact of the knife but it never came. Max was there, with the black leather gloves on his hand, he held the knife in place and delivered a devastating blow to the assailant.
Looking at both sides of the fight, people would have come to conclusion that there was a fallout in the group that had just invaded the Citadel, because Max had dressed almost the same as they had. The only difference was the design of the black mask and also the fact that Max wore black gloves.
But the group of people fleeing for their lives had not time to worry about the disparity or similarity between the two.
It looked like the punch had failed to deal any reasonable damage because he had sprang back to attack and blue mist started to gather on his hand.
Max could instantly tell what his power was, telekinesis. He took a quick glance around and just as he had expected, there was a broken piece of wood with a sharp end which had a tint of blue hue floating about four feet above the ground.
Just as his eyes met it, the stick came rushing at him. He put his gloves hand in front of the stick and it stopped right in front of his hand.
He had also activated his ability, gravity. Amplifying his power into the area around him, the stick experience a sudden change in gravity stopped and fell to the floor.
People within six feet of Max could feel their bodied getting heavier than usual. The telekinesis user started to hurl any broken material he could find as a result of the chaos in the arena.
He hurled the few within his reach but they came to a standstill and dropped to the floor as soon as they got into they entered the six feet radius. The effect of the gravity was still active, even though Max couldn't leave it active for too long as his skill level was still at Rank E.
Seeing as the telekinesis was not having much effect, He rushed in, he knew Max was a student which meant he did not have enough energy to keep up the Gravity barrier for so long, he would eventually burn out. But their goal was not to waste time.
He needed to get rid of Max quickly and move to the next phase of the operation. Dashing forward, he could feel the resistance as he got into the gravity active area. His speed and overall agility instantly dropped by one tenth. Making it very easy for Max to counter his attacks.
Darla looked to her side and she could see Edward and Orion Rockefeller taking on one of the invaders. Given that Orion and Edward were both at Rank D, they were holding their own against their opponent who was a Rank clear at Rank C, even close enough to overpowering him.
She looked back at Max who was fighting in her stead. She had been ball watching the whole time, and letting someone do all the work, she immediately snapped out of it and jumped in with Max.
"Is this his ability" Darla asked as she could feel the weight of her body increase as she got close to the fight.
Max shook his head in response.
"Yours then?" She questioned again
Max nodded his head once in response while readying to attack.
"Are you trying to make it easier or harder to fight, deactivate whatever this is, let's take this trash out" Darla raised her voice over the clashes that was now going on in every part of the Citadel.
Max glared at her, even though the expression was not completely visible beneath the mask. But then her body suddenly felt lighter. He had deactivated his ability.
The invader they were going to battle with smiled, showing off jagged yellow teeth.
"Now, let me teach you kids a lesson. In death" he laughed
