Chapter 69
(Attack at the castle, Pt 6 of 6)
Narrator Pov:
Aaron, Theo, Rex, Pakora, and Meshu stayed in the stronghold with the knights. They were all wondering just how those kids had gotten that powerful. They were also wondering about the assassins and the attack from earlier.
Emma and Hunter who was carrying Jake ran out of the Stronghold. They were heading for the church to get Jake healed as bringing the healer didn't turn out well. There were guards rushing around and questioning people as well as defending the castle. When they saw the kids they were about to stop them when they remembered. They were the guests of Honor!
Two knights went up to them and helped escort them, as they ran, to the church. They arrived and when the person at the door saw the condition of Jake, a child, they ran inside. They were rushed into a room as someone else went to get the bishop.
The Bishop came in and was astonished at the condition of Jake, a boy. He was almost eight and had burns, bruises, cuts, broken bones, and more. He could not believe how a child could get such injuries and live. He immediately cast the highest healing Magic he could.
At that, all of Jakes wounds disappeared and his face untensed. Everybody then sat down on a bench with the Bishop. "How did this happen?," The Bishop asked curious on how a boy ended up like that.
"We were in a waiting room in the castle. Meshu had sent a guard to come get us, but he was ambushed and replaced it looks. That man had set up something imbued with fire magic around the castle to burn it. When he entered he tossed something similar that exploded. I put up as good of a barrier as I could as he used the metal table as a shield. But I got knocked out from the blast, next thing I know I am in the strong hold and he is like this," Hunter says, crying for once in his life.
"But I thought I sent a priest there? Why did he not heal him?," The Bishop asks Genuinely confused. There were many knights from here to the Stronghold, yet the assassins had infiltrated easily.
"Assassins, probably to kill the king, replaced him and his guard. They tried to poison him for some reason after casting illusion magic to make him think he was healed. But he has been poisoned before and knows what it tastes like. He wasn't taking any chances and spat the medicine out. Then he choke-holed him to the ground as the king and him came out of the War room. Meshu then released the magic and we saw the assassins," Emma says recalling what had happened.
"I see, but I guess he knew a lot if he was able to discern that. We don't use medicine for anything most of the time, that is only used for small injuries and the like. Otherwise we just use healing magic for everything. Anyway I am going to pray to the gods that he gets better," The bishop says leaving.
The two knights, Emma, Hunter, and the unconscious Jake are left in the room. Emma is Hugging Hunter as he has his elbows on his knees and his face on his interlocked hands looking at Jake. The guards realize it is not their place and leave, they leave the building as weapons are not supposed to be inside.
The capital is in Chaos at what has happened and no one is allowed to leave. Over the next week they search around finding nothing until Jake wakes up. Everyone is happy that he is awake finally after a week of rest. The Bishop had given the three a room in the church to let them rest and heal.
Jake was well enough so he even joined the service the church held the day he woke. Everyone was surprised and happy that he was finally awake after all this time. Then the guards finally found the culprit. They had searched the castle and lifted debris when they found a man with similar devices to the ones that sent the castle up in flames.
He was dead, killed by metal impaled in his back and rubble collapsing on him. The castle was mostly fine except for this section and burns all over the castle. It would take two weeks to repair, that would be when the ceremony for Jake and his family would finally commence. It would be on Jake and Emma's Birthday so it would be held at the church.
Their pets had been ecstatic because they had not seen them in a week. So the second they returned they were covered in licks from the wolves and other beasts. It had been decided that they would be given a last name due to their resilience and benevolence that they had shown. The king had thought it would fit them perfectly.
Henry and Hannah had been worried for the Trio and were happy to see them finally. The man who wanted Jake dead was never able to make that come true and was mad that he had to wait on moving something out. What will happen in the remaining chapters of this Story?
