Chapter 40 - Skills

Alexander's escape from the summoning had given him a stark reminder of the need for caution when navigating other worlds. Even though a low-ranking demon like him might surpass many creatures in the human realm in terms of power, he couldn't afford to be careless. Demons had formidable adversaries as well.

Humans were often the ones summoning demons, but they also tended to harbor a deep-seated aversion to demons. They sought to harness the power of demons while simultaneously fearing and despising them. Many exorcists considered it their duty to eliminate demons. Demons, therefore, faced an inherent disadvantage in the human world, often referred to as the "home-field disadvantage."

Alexander was acutely aware of this reality. He possessed the mind of a human and the body of a demon, making it impossible for him to consider demons as allies. Yet, when he ventured into the human world, humans regarded him as an outsider. Even if he committed no wrongdoing, humans would still view him with contempt.

Alexander felt a sense of helplessness about this situation. He straddled the divide between two worlds, unable to belong to either. This awareness compelled him to be prepared to confront both humans and demons, understanding that he was an outsider to both factions. To ensure his survival, he couldn't afford any naive illusions.

Seeing Gabriel in his angelic form had evoked both fear and envy in Alexander. He couldn't help but wonder why he hadn't been reborn as an angel. Even if he allowed monsters to plague humans for centuries before intervening, humans would likely worship him. Instead, he found himself causing panic and inciting hostility as soon as he appeared.

In his contemplation, Alexander mused about the superficial nature of appearances. It seemed that having a righteous appearance made all the difference.

Shaking his head to clear these thoughts, Alexander left the altar and climbed out of the volcano. He intended to find a place to settle down before examining his acquisitions.

Alexander stored Gabriel's holy soul fragment and Lucius's fallen soul in the system. He didn't dare to display them openly, knowing that it would cause a commotion in the Demon World. By storing them in the system, he could mask their presence.

He had expected to obtain both a fallen soul and a noble soul, but to his surprise, he didn't even catch a glimpse of the noble soul. Instead, he had acquired a holy soul fragment. It left him wondering about the significance of these different soul types and their potential uses.

As he flew out of the volcano and found a spacious nest belonging to flying demons, Alexander realized that this might be his new dwelling. It was abandoned, likely due to the previous occupants being hunted.

Once settled in the nest, Alexander turned his attention to the system. With the acquisition of Lucius's fallen soul, he gained access to the 3D and Animation functions.

The 3D function allowed Alexander to create models, while Animation enabled him to generate special effects and create videos. Alexander recognized that these newfound abilities could be valuable tools in his journey through other worlds.

Moreover, these two functions could be seamlessly combined in Alexander's creative process. He utilized the 3D function to meticulously craft character models and sketch various dynamic poses. Then, he merged these poses together to construct a fluid motion sequence. Next, he applied Animation to infuse his animations with stunning special effects, elevating them to the next level. Finally, he transformed these creations into video files and skillfully cropped selected portions into GIF format.

In essence, the GIF images that emerged from this process were more than just visual delights; they were skill demonstrations enhanced with dazzling special effects. Once Alexander saved these materials, he could employ the abilities showcased in the GIFs, ensuring that his attacks mirrored these spellbinding effects.

As he unraveled the true purpose of these functions, Alexander couldn't help but be astonished. Could I really take my skills to this level?

His excitement soared, and he delved into his newfound capabilities with fervor.

Creating 3D models proved to be an intricate endeavor. Alexander had to envision the various actions his character needed to perform before embarking on the painstaking task of illustrating each action. In the skill demonstrations, he painstakingly crafted these individual actions.

Simultaneously, he had to design the accompanying special effects to breathe life into these actions. For instance, if he desired fiery special effects, he had to determine the trajectory of the flames—would they fan out or shoot skyward? He had to meticulously render these effects as well. In sum, the fusion of these two functions constituted the art of animation.

Therefore, while engrossed in drawing and modeling, Alexander's mind raced with ideas for the skills he wanted to create.

Since these were self-conceived skills, the possibilities were limitless. However, two crucial considerations weighed on Alexander's mind. Firstly, he needed to factor in Lucius's fallen soul, as the manifestation of skills consumed this high-quality essence. The inclusion of more intricate special effects would demand a higher expenditure of this precious resource.

Secondly, Alexander had inquired with the system about the potency of his self-designed skills. Ultimately, their effectiveness hinged on the volume of Alexander's magic energy.

In theory, Alexander could devise a skill capable of triggering a nuclear explosion with a mere flick of his wrist. However, even if he could technically achieve it, his current reservoir of magic energy would likely reduce its might to that of a mere grenade. Such a feat would deplete his magic energy entirely, rendering the skill impractical.

After careful contemplation, Alexander concluded that his first skill should feature a simple effect that his magic energy could sustain continuously. As his magic energy increased over time, he could gradually enhance the skill's special effects to bolster its power.

In simpler terms, he aimed for a skill akin to a "AOE skill" in gaming terminology. Yet, the moment he began sketching out ideas, Alexander found himself grappling with a conundrum: What type of "AOE skill" should he create?

This inaugural skill marked his maiden foray into the realm of magic, a novice-level ability. Fireball, Shadow Grab, and the like immediately came to mind as practical options. These skills were straightforward to execute, and regardless of the magical energy required, Alexander was confident he could execute the special effects flawlessly.

However, he couldn't shake the feeling that such skills lacked the "cool factor" he was seeking...
