Chapter 4 - CHAPTER 3

Adela's Point of View

It was a refreshing morning to wake up, which I finally accepted. After waking up, I washed up and had breakfast alone. It's only eight in the morning, so I'm sure Primo is still asleep. Archer, on the other hand, had already left for the place he mentioned last night during dinner.

After breakfast, I went upstairs to take a shower and get ready.

As I stepped out of my room after getting ready, Primo passed by right in front of me.

Wow, great! The person I don't want to see early in the morning is right in front of me. I take back what I said earlier about it being a refreshing morning.

"Oh, Good Morning baby! Did you have breakfast?" he asked, with a smile still on his lips.

"Stop calling me baby!" I replied with a stern look at him.

"Woah, chill, okay? Did I say you should join me for breakfast?"

Fine, show me just how much you resemble Archer when you smile! I'm annoyed!

"Yes, and even if I haven't eaten yet, I won't join you," I said.

"Why? Did I say you should accompany me?" he asked, making me even more irritated as I felt embarrassed by what he said.

Why the heck did I think about him asking me to have breakfast with him?

I'm assuming too much! Not cool, and it's embarrassing!

"Tsk, you're already ruining my day this early!" I said, then turned away from him. But as I took a few steps, I heard his voice again. He still had a grip on my hand, so my eyes immediately went down to where he was holding.

"I will really ask you if you haven't had your breakfast yet, sorry to make you feel embarrassed," he said, still not letting go.

I slowly lifted my gaze to meet his, and as our eyes locked, I glanced at his slightly pouting lips. My eyes widened, and my heart skipped a beat, so I quickly withdrew my hand as if a horse was racing away.

Embarrassing! What was that? Why am I embarrassed?

I stopped running when I reached the mansion's exit.

Wait! Calm down, Adela Savannah Melendez, he just held your hand and pouted, what's wrong with that? And above all, what's so embarrassing?

Why am I getting nervous? I have no reason to be nervous!

Oh right, there really is no reason, so I should just chill.

I lifted and dropped my shoulders as I started doing some breathing exercises to calm myself.

"Go ahead, keep going," I said while placing my palm over my chest, trying to calm my heart.

When I finally breathed calmly, I headed towards a cottage that no one was using and watched some guests frolicking in the sea.

I stared at the sparkling sea as the sun shone brightly. I wanted to take a dip, but I decided against it. I'll just swim in the sea when Olivia invites me again; I don't want to swim alone, it's boring.

As I kept my gaze on the sea, I remembered Archer and Margareth swimming in the sea the last time they invited me to join them.

"I couldn't look at them at that time because I wasn't happy. It hurts my feelings. Hahaha, I don't know if I'm being too dramatic? But it's painful, and I can't explain it.

"I was looking for you, and you were just here!" said a voice that I knew came from Olivia.

After that day they invited me, she started approaching me more often. Well, yesterday's mall outing might be the third or fourth time. It has been a week since they invited me to join them for a swim here at the resort.

"Oh? Don't you have anything to do now?" I asked, looking at her off-shoulder top and denim mini skirt. She paired it with gladiator sandals.

"I don't have anything. It's my free day today, but next month or the month after that, I might get busy because I'll start working at our family business."

She moved to the seat across from me, so now we were facing each other.

"Oh, so where is your job?" I asked, leaning back and keeping my gaze on her.

"Well, it's at a bar." I raised my eyebrow at her answer.

"You have a bar?"

"Yup. Mommy wants me to manage it. It's fine with me since I want to do it too. But wait, you didn't know we have a bar?" She seemed surprised that I had no idea.

"Nope," I nodded in response.

"Have you ever been to a bar?"

"Not yet, but I know they mostly serve alcoholic drinks, right?"

"Yes, mostly drinks. Anyway, one of your family's businesses is wine-making, right? So you have a grape farm?"

I nodded in affirmation.

"The company supplies some of the wine we have at the bar," she said.

"How about drinking some alcoholic drinks? Have you tried any?" she added.

"We only have wine. I don't like the others because my system can't handle them, especially when they're given to me in large quantities."

"Oh my gosh, I can't believe that! But you know what, before you leave here, you might learn to handle it. My friends and I love hanging out at the bar as our pastime!" she said, laughing.

"And since we're friends now, it's not impossible for you to become like us!" she continued, still giggling.

She seemed excited for me to be like them. Just the thought of myself drunk made me cringe.

What if I became a talkative drunk? I'd probably reveal all my secrets. What if I became a grumpy drunk? I'd end up scolding everyone. What if I suddenly started kissing or doing weird things like what I've read and seen?

Gosh, just thinking about what might happen to me, I feel like I'll go crazy.

"I can't drink, there might be a bad effect of alcohol on me later. It's fine not to try, as long as I don't do something I'm not aware of. I might end up doing something extremely embarrassing and regret it. I'd better not!

"So how are you? Have you baked already?" she asked and then stood up.

"Yeah, chocolate cake."

"Wow! Did you let Archer taste your creation?"

"I offered it to him, but he didn't get to taste it because he received a call before finishing his meal, and he didn't come back to the table," I replied, feeling a bit sad.

"What about the cake? Did you finish it all by yourself?" she asked, looking surprised.

"Oh no, Primo ate it. He likes chocolate cake."

"Oh, right. He loves chocolates. He'll eat anything chocolate-flavored and delicious," Olivia said, and I just nodded, not really interested in that kid's favorite.

I wanted to share what Primo told me, but I didn't. It would be embarrassing since I knew Olivia's response would be, "He's just being mischievous, ignore him."

I returned to the mansion with Olivia for lunch.

It was just the two of us having lunch, and I was thankful that Primo wasn't there; he had school.

"By the way, about the party I mentioned yesterday," she said, and I shifted my attention to her.

"It's today. I'll come pick you up," she added, and I just nodded.

"Do I need to dress up?" I asked, wondering if Olivia would wear a dress and if I should do the same.

"You should probably wear a dress too," she suggested, and I nodded, continuing to eat.

While eating, I remembered what Olivia said about Archer and Margareth being together for two years, but why hasn't Archer introduced Margareth to his parents?

I thought he loved her?

I'm sure he wants to marry Margareth. Then why didn't he show any signs of disapproval when his Mom introduced me to him?

There is something fishy, but I don't know what it is.

I'll just ask Olivia if she knows anything.

"Um, Olivia? I just want to ask." She looked at me after wiping her mouth.

"What is it?"

"You mentioned yesterday that Margareth and Archer have been together for two years, but why does it seem like Archer's parents know nothing about Margareth?"

Before answering, she looked around and gestured for me to come closer to her.

We were sitting next to each other, so I moved my chair closer to her. She whispered when I was close enough.

"There is a war between Marga's family and Montero family." She started, and I raised an eyebrow.

What does she mean by a war between the families? Is it serious enough that Archer has to keep their relationship a secret?
