Chapter 27 - Return

The car started again.

As the zombies approached and began to pound on the car, Waldo slammed on the accelerator, shifted into second gear, and sped away.

The zombies didn't back down and continued to chase after him.

Waldo drove back along the same road he had come from, trying to regain the familiar feeling of driving a manual transmission. He skillfully shifted into third gear and increased the throttle.

Just as he was about to shift into fourth gear, he couldn't seem to engage the gear.

Waldo felt a twinge of frustration.

It seemed that the car was already quite old, and the worn-out gears prevented him from shifting into higher gears.

Judging from the interior, the car was probably around twenty years old.

But it was still better than nothing.

He pressed the throttle deeper, raising the RPM slightly, and managed to reach a speed of sixty to seventy kilometers per hour.

Waldo drove the car back through the fiery circle where Mia had been surrounded earlier.

However, Mia was nowhere to be seen.

He noticed a covered escape passage nearby.

Unexpectedly, Mia had managed to escape in such a short amount of time.

That surprised Waldo.

"You got lucky," he muttered as he glanced briefly and then focused on driving.

He drove the car onto the highway and accelerated once again.

Leaving the chasing zombies far behind, only their howls remained.

Waldo was very satisfied with today's gains.

With just a few bottles of water and a few pieces of bread, he had obtained the coordinates of a golden-level supply crate.

There was no need to follow through with the subsequent transaction.

After all, Mia had used him as bait.

There was no way Waldo would honor his promise to deliver the remaining supplies to her.

Mia had suffered a big loss this time.

And the most exciting part for Waldo was that he had obtained a gasoline generator from the golden-level supply crate.

He had just acquired an unlimited supply of gasoline today, and now he had a generator to go with it.

Waldo felt elated; he seemed to be the luckiest person in the post-apocalyptic world.

Having electricity was crucial in this world.

Inside the fortified walls, electricity could be used for surveillance, alarms, and water heaters.

With the car, Waldo quickly returned to the villa district.

When he had set off, he had eaten two large steamed buns and it took him nearly four to five hours to reach the coordinates of the golden supply crate.

But this time, he returned in less than two hours.

When he reached the fortified walls, Waldo honked the horn lightly.

Alanna in the villa was startled.

She quickly ran up to the second-floor balcony, holding a crossbow, ready to shoot if necessary.

Only when Waldo stuck his head out of the car window and waved did Alanna realize it was him. She joyfully ran downstairs and opened the gate of the fortified walls.

After closing the gate, Waldo parked the car in the garage and didn't immediately take off his backpack.

At this moment, Alanna ran out, amazed at the sight of the car.

"Oh my god, Waldo, you went out for a trip and came back with a car?! Let me guess, you got a golden-level supply crate and drove this car out, right?"

Waldo laughed heartily and pulled her toward the car.

"Well, what do you think? Do you like it? With this car, our scavenging missions will be much easier. And most importantly, now I can go out with you to gather supplies. One of us can drive, and the other can hunt."

Waldo rewarded her with 300 experience points.

Looking at Alanna's personal panel, sure enough, Alanna has also leveled up.

ID: 9527

Level: 4 (0/400)

Strength: 10

Agility: 15

Stamina: Energized

From the values on the panel, Alanna's physical fitness is already quite good.

Waldo is also relieved to take her out to gather supplies.

After all, keeping Alanna in the villa area all the time without real combat training against zombies is not a good thing for her.

Waldo grabbed Alanna and covered her eyes.

Alanna, don't look at the car for now, I'll let you drive it later, have some fun. Now, let me show you a big treasure.

Alanna became curious with Waldo's mysterious behavior.

What could be so mysterious? And why do you have to cover my eyes?

Waldo covered Alanna's eyes with one hand while taking out the gasoline generator from his backpack with the other hand.

Then, he released his hand covering Alanna's eyes.

Guess what this is!

Waldo pointed at the gasoline generator, his face filled with joy. However, Alanna looked confused. What is this thing? Is it a lawnmower?

Waldo pursed his lips.

He originally wanted to surprise Alanna but didn't expect that she didn't recognize the gasoline generator.

Waldo playfully ruffled Alanna's hair and then explained, somewhat complainingly, "Hey, you silly girl. This is a gasoline generator. We can have electricity now."

A gasoline generator?!

Alanna exclaimed.Ignoring her messed-up hair caused by Waldo, her eyes lit up."Waldo, are you saying we can have electric lights now?"

Waldo looked at the excited Alanna and affectionately said, "Can't you have a little ambition? Be bolder, what else can we do?"

Alanna pondered, biting her finger, but couldn't think of any other uses.

Suddenly, Alanna had a flash of inspiration.

I know, we can install surveillance cameras and attach alarm systems to the fortified walls!

Naturally, what Alanna said was also something Waldo planned to do later.

Installing surveillance cameras and alarm systems on the fortified walls is something that must be done.

Waldo had discovered it long before.

This villa already had fully equipped alarm systems and surveillance cameras.

The only problem was the lack of electricity, rendering them unusable. However, these were not the answers Waldo was looking for.Waldo flicked Alanna's forehead with his finger, smiling and shaking his head.

Miss Alanna, don't you feel uncomfortable not having a shower for days?

Upon hearing about taking a shower, Alanna grumbled, "Of course it's uncomfortable. I always feel sticky."

Haven't you thought that with the gasoline generator, we can use a water heater and take a proper hot shower?

Alanna hadn't considered that aspect. After all, water is a precious resource in the post-apocalyptic world.

They barely have enough to drink, let alone taking showers.

She had initially thought about finding opportunities to wash by the riverside or during rainy days.

But she didn't expect that in this post-apocalyptic world, natural water resources were undrinkable and harmful to the body.As for the rain, it was acid rain.Naturally, Alanna's idea fell flat.

So, upon hearing Waldo's words, Alanna felt a bit helpless.

Even if we can generate electricity, we still need water to take a shower. It's too wasteful to use precious water resources for that.

Waldo took out several cases of bottled water from his backpack and said, "We have enough water supply. You don't have to worry about that. However, we shouldn't waste it too much. Let's have showers every three days from now on!"

"Really?" Alanna excitedly hugged Waldo and kissed his cheek. "Waldo, you're the best!"

Afterward, Alanna rushed into the villa, grabbing clean clothes and heading to the bathroom.Waldo couldn't help but laugh and cry.

They haven't even installed the gasoline generator yet.
